Chapter 34: Chapter 34

The demon just stood there in place as he looked at his other clones.

One of the clones immediately began to gather its energy.

And for the moment Dan was perplexed at why the demon would want to attack while the main one was in danger of being killed.

The demon immediately moved to strike down Dan and the original demon.

Dan still stood his ground and did not move an inch.

It must be bluffing. Dan thought within himself.

The demon kept getting closer to Dan and the original demon. Its blade was pulsating as it approached them.

"Crimson Veil Execution." The demon spoke these words as he was almost upon them.

The demon’s blade began glowing red. The demon then slashed it’s blade forward. Its slash began to cut the air open. It was literally splitting the air apart.

The sheer force of the attack caused the hair on Dan’s body to rise. His heart began to beat faster.

Would it really?

And SLASH!!!.....

The attack had landed, and the three were now in a fixed position. The blade was stuck in the demon and had also pierced Dan, too.

The demon’s shoulder had been split open from the strike of the blade. Black blood began rolling down the arms of the demon, it dripped down to the floor.

Traces of red blood could be found dripping too in the pool of black blood.

Dan dragged himself out of the blade. From his lips, blood began to drip down behind the mask.

"They must all die," he said subtly as he watched the remaining demons rush to attack him.

"No more mercy"

"Phantom Requiem," Dan said he gripped Soul Reaper tightly.

A cold aura descended upon the plain. It was as if the maws of death had opened up to receive an offering.

Even time itself had obeyed Dan’s call and slowed down. Dan’s eyes darted around the plain, taking notice of all the demons’ positions.

"Scatter," he spoke.

Immediately, phantom-like figures flew out of him to attack the demons. The phantoms slashed at the necks of all the demons. The technique was so fluid and deadly that the demons had no time to react.

All the demons felt no pain as they died on the spot. They had all been beheaded. Only one of them had remained. Its head had not been completely severed. Instead, it still held on because the demon reacted to the attack, but it was still not fast enough to fully defend against it.

Dan watched the demon as it tried to crawl away from him. Dan held his bleeding side as he walked toward the demon.

The demon looked at Dan. Its eyes bored holes into Dan. Its face was filled with disdain.

Dan came and stood before its crawling body.

"You should have killed me when you had the chance," Dan spoke.

He then took up Soul Reaper and drove it into the demon’s heart. The demon groaned, still trying to escape before it finally gave up and died. Soul Reaper began drawing out its essence as the demon started disintegrating.

System notification.

Quest: Kill a mid-level demon. (completed)

Reward: 20 divine embers, + 10 to all stats.

Dan looked at the system notification. After having been here for three weeks, he had been looking for demons to kill. Once in a while, he found little demons, but this was the first time he had actually met and killed a mid-tier demon.

And he almost lost his life in the process. He had to use the most deadly skill in his arsenal that Soul Reaper had gifted him after a while of being companions. He was here to get stronger, and he has been doing that at a fast pace.

He then willed his stats to come up.

Name: Dan Othniel

Title: The Goddess Chosen

Level 9: 80/120( add 20 divine embers)

Tail Level: 2/9

He had been stuck at two tails for a while now. He would need to unlock the third one before he would be able to say he is strong. But for now, he would keep on fighting lower demons and mid-tier ones till he was strong enough to face stronger beings.

"Let’s just add the twenty divine embers to make it a hundred," Dan said.

As he added the divine embers, he now had a hundred divine embers out of a hundred and twenty.

Now for my attributes, Dan then brought it up.

[Attributes]

- Strength: 81(+10)

- Speed: 78(+10)

- Agility: 84(+10)

- Intelligence: 59(+10)

- Spirit: 63(+10)

"It seems I have been grinding a lot," he smiled. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

He immediately added the + 10 points to all his attributes. A surge of energy now flowed through Dan. It made his muscles tense and his bones thicker.

New system notification

Life essence 60%....63%

68%....70%....

And then it finally stopped. Ever since coming here and hunting demons, Dan had been able to replenish his Life essence with that of demons. Though it’s not the same as a human one, it still did the job. Just that now he was getting a bit corroded by the darkness.

Ever since he began taking the life essence of the demons, he had started hearing whispers. Sometimes of the demons’ lives he had taken. Other times, it was of the innocent asking for vengeance.

But most times, it was the dark trying to allure him with the promises of powers it would grant him. Of how he will be the most powerful being. But Dan didn’t believe it.

His mind was not completely his own, and he was gradually being pulled into the dark. But he had been fighting to keep his mind sane.

Dan then walked around to the little demi-god. It was a little boy who was unconscious.

What would someone so young be looking for out here?

Dan came closer and picked up the young demi-god.

As he did, he kept the young demi-god on his shoulder as he walked away. He left the camp under the watchful eyes of the mini demons.

None tried to stop him or even harbored the thought for fear of what might happen to them.

Dan took the young demi- god boy away from the camp. Having traversed the scorching plains for a while, he was able to find a cave.

In there, he made a mini camp for the boy and himself.

Here in the second heaven, there’s no food. The beings did not have a need for that, as only those of the divine can be here or spirits. So only a strong spirit is needed to come here. And the stronger one’s spirit is. The higher the chances of getting stronger.

Dan cleaned up the boy’s wounds so they wouldn’t get infected. Though he had done that, the boy still remained unconscious for a few more days.

Dan started to meditate while he waited for the boy to wake up. Dan wanted to know how a boy as young as him came to the second heaven. And how he was able to survive and not just be killed by the demons.

After some days, the boy finally moved. He opens his eyes to find himself in a cave. In the cave with him, he found a man who was shrouded in robes and had a fox mask on.

The man’s eyes opened and turned towards him.

And the man began walking towards him.
