Chapter 70: Blue Zone

"Haah...Haah...Is he gone?"

The ice elemental spells stopped shooting his way quite some time ago, and he couldn’t hear any other footsteps except his.

Hal stopped running and turned to look.

The lavender-haired, C-ranked Wizard was indeed gone.

But why?

He had been so focused on surviving earlier that nothing else mattered.

Hal placed Loki down and looked around while huffing and puffing.

Only now did he notice the blue veiny marks on almost everything inside the area.

’Damn...I entered a dangerous zone, didn’t I?’

There was no other explanation as to why his pursuer stopped chasing him.

If even a C-ranked wizard dared not enter, then he was probably in quite a bad situation.

’But I can’t go back...’

He was sure that the bastard was lurking somewhere around the borders of this Blue Zone, as Hal decided to call the area.

He then turned to look at little Loki.

’Hmm...this guy doesn’t seem distressed or scared...’

They should be safe for now, then.

But just as Hal finished his line of thought and was about to look for a safe, hidden spot, the bush a few dozen meters to his left rustled.

A red blur then charged towards him.

’Crap!’

Hal quickly conjured a [Mana Barrier], blocking the speedy red creature’s attack, though to his surprise, his defensive spell cracked quite significantly.

The red blur soon landed a distance away from him, revealing its full appearance.

"R-Red Goblin!"

He encountered a D-ranked creature right off the bat.

"Loki, stay behind me!"

The little cub wanted to battle alongside its master.

However, it decided to comply in the end, showcasing how intelligent it actually was despite its rather comical and dumb-looking appearance.

It proved to be the correct decision as, in the next moment, another red blur lunged at him from the bushes on the right.

Unfortunately, his barrier was on cooldown.

Hal quickly grabbed Loki and disappeared before the other Red Goblin’s blade cut his head clean off, reappearing some distance away with gritted teeth.

He had to use another charge of [Blink].

Right...

How could he forget that goblins hunted in pairs or trios?

Hal looked around, his heart slightly racing at the thought of there being another.

The first Red Goblin lunged at him again, but without the element of surprise, Hal easily repelled the four-foot-tall monster, forcing it to skid backward after blocking his [Glacial Shard] with its weapon.

He wanted to follow up with a [Weak Mana Blast] in hopes of dealing some damage.

Regrettably, he couldn’t, since the other Red Goblin was charging straight at him already.

The teamwork, the timing of attacks, and the raw physical abilities...

The Green Goblins couldn’t hold a candle.

Makes one wonder how they were even the same species...

Hal blasted a [Fireball] and a [Weak Mana Blast] simultaneously this time, hoping to injure the second goblin without allowing the first to interrupt.

His plan worked and didn’t at the same time. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

He did manage to deal considerable damage to the second Red Goblin, as although it managed to deflect the roaring ball of flames, the translucent-blue sphere made contact with its chest, blasting it a fair distance back.

In exchange for this, however, the first goblin managed to land a moderately deep cut on his right rib area.

The attack would’ve gutted him had he not shifted his body quickly enough.

’Shit...’

He found out that day it was rather unwise and not worth it to trade blows with monsters.

After all, a human’s constitution wasn’t as tough, and they certainly weren’t as fearless.

Not him.

’I need to catch one off guard and finish it off with one clean attack...’

It was too difficult to fight both at the same time.

At least for the current him.

Rethinking his strategy as he locked eyes with the two monsters circling him and little Loki, Hal was able to form a quick plan.

It didn’t take long for a chance to execute it to appear as both Goblins dashed at him in a zigzag, one slightly lagging in pace to the other.

Arriving within a prime striking distance, the second Goblin lunged at Hal, cackling gratingly as it successfully drew the human’s attention away.

To the monster’s surprise, the moment its comrade lunged, the human grinned triumphantly.

Hal turned his attention to the first Red Goblin.

He summoned a [Mana Barrier] to block the second Goblin’s attack and used his other hand to conjure mana chains from a silvery-purple magic circle on the ground, capturing the first goblin mid-air.

He then quickly followed up with a [Weak Mana Blast] and a [Glacial Shard] in that order.

The slightly panicking Red Goblin couldn’t think quickly enough.

It blocked the first attack and was struck cleanly in the heart by the second, putrid blue blood spurting out of the lethal pierce wound.

The next moment, the monster fell to the ground, twitching for a few moments before stopping to move completely.

[Congratulations! You’ve earned 5 Chaos Points!]

It couldn’t even let out a dying shriek.

The remaining Red Goblin, to Hal’s surprise, quickly fled as soon as it realized its comrade was dead.

The bastards were smarter than he expected.

"I was quite sure that other f*cker would snap..." He muttered, shrugging in acceptance the next moment. "Oh well, good for me, I guess..."

Hal sighed and turned to look at Loki.

It seemed the little one was doing fine...

He quickly harvested the D-ranked core from the slain Red Goblin, stored it in the system’s inventory, and stood up after cleaning his hands with a bit of his drinking water.

"Come, Loki, let’s look for a place to rest."

The smart cub barked once in response, wagging its tail.

But just as Hal took a step in a chosen direction, he nearly stumbled, a wave of weakness and lightheadedness washing over him.

He instinctively glanced at the wound on his rib area.

It seemed he was cut deeper than he thought...

’Ahh...good thing the other bastard ran, then...’

Hal was contemplating whether he should use a charge of [Heal] or not when the sky suddenly dimmed.

...And his eyes widened as he inevitably looked around him.

Not out of fear, or any other negative emotion, but out of pure awe and wonder.

The blue vein markings all lit up simultaneously, and translucent blue bubbles occasionally floated upward, popping softly once they reached a certain height.

He had never been in such a mystical place before.
