Chapter 75: 75. Astrid And Aster Spends Time Together.

A few more days passed and it was now the seventh day since Astrid had arrived at the Dragon Queen’s castle.

After the first time Lily and Astrid sneaked into the garrison, Vivian had made sure to remind them of how she didn’t want them to disobey her like that ever again. So Astrid didn’t really get to watch Aster train closely.

But now that she would be returning home today, the demon princess couldn’t help but wonder how her mother would react upon hearing about how she had failed to complete her mission.

"Mom would probably be upset with me," Astrid uttered to herself before dragging her attention toward a very important person in front of her.

Astrid was currently walking around, to take a good look at the castle and its surroundings one last time before she returned home. But she hadn’t expected to see Aster resting alone in a place that looked like the Dragon Queen’s private garden.

She didn’t even know why she was hiding at the moment, but she had no idea what Aster was doing here, and as such, she didn’t want to make any noise that might distract him, if he was meditating.

Since the garden was a calm and relaxing environment, Astrid knew this spot was the best place for a demon to have some peaceful relaxation and some private meditation as well, which was why she didn’t want to disturb Aster if he was here for those reasons.

But he wasn’t meditating, and the Frost Demon princess couldn’t help but wonder what exactly he was doing in the garden.

Meanwhile, Aster continued to relax as he enjoyed the soothing breeze underneath an oak tree against which he was resting his back.

But he had definitely noticed Astrid’s presence the moment she had entered the garden.

After all, he hadn’t been training these past few days for nothing, so there was no way he wouldn’t have sensed her presence the moment she had walked into the garden.

"Are you going to keep hiding or are you going to come over and join me?" Aster asked and Astrid started in surprise, before slowly stepping out and bowing politely as she approached him.

After sleeping with him for the past few days...

Oh wait, that came out wrong.

After sharing the same bed with...

Oh shit, that’s even worse.

Anyways, after spending the last few days in the castle, Astrid had instinctively developed a strong sense of respect for Aster due to his passionate desire to grow stronger, not only because of the tournament, but also for himself.

She had even noticed the way he interacted with Lily, Hallie, Sara, and Cara, which seemed to be a bit mature for a demon of his age. She had also noticed that he took a few private classes with his mother in her study.

Based on all of these, Astrid had begun to view him differently and she was genuinely interested in seeing what he would do in the upcoming tournament.

"You do know that you don’t have to bow to me, right? You’re a princess, and that means that you are equally a member of a royal family, doesn’t it?"

"It does." Astrid nodded in response with a smile on her face.

Right now, it seemed like Aster was scolding her about something she did wrong, but instead of feeling upset, Astrid couldn’t help but find it funny to see a demon around her age, scolding her like this.

"Would you like to have a seat?" Aster asked as he patted the space next to him and the Frost Demon princess nodded in response before sitting down beside him.

Once seated, Astrid noticed Aster smiling at her before resuming what he was doing before her arrival.

But Aster wasn’t really doing anything noteworthy.

In fact, it seemed like he was taking a leisurely break right now, but that felt strange to Astrid and so she asked. "What are you doing?"

"I’m resting."

"Just resting?"

"Yep."

"Ohh..."

"Were you expecting me to be doing some other thing?"

"Um, I thought you were meditating or doing something else."

"Something else?"

"Well, it’s like meditation too, but it’s a special kind of breathing technique, and I heard only strong and powerful demons were able to do it, but when I saw you so relaxed, I thought you were..."

"No, I wasn’t. But what does that breathing technique really do?"

"It’s mainly used by Enhancers to help improve and strengthen their aura veins so that they’ll be able to cause more damage during their attacks, but I heard it could be used by Conjurers as well."

"Can you do that special breathing technique too?" Aster asked excitedly but Astrid shook her head in response.

"No, I can’t." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Ohh."

Astrid noticed how Aster’s excited look changed and this made her feel unhappy for some reason. She wondered if he would have looked different had she told him that she could use the breathing technique.

But she really couldn’t use the breathing technique because it was a very difficult technique that was suitable for demons with a strength level of at least Third Order.

But if she was actually able to learn it before him, Astrid would be more than willing to teach it to him as well. Hopefully, he would be happy about it and he might even think that she was cool for knowing it at such a young age.

That was what Astrid thought as she imagined him looking at her with a lot of respect and adoration, and this made Astrid even happier.

Coming back to reality, Astrid shook her head with a smile on her face.

It was nice to have these fanciful thoughts once in a while, but right now, that wasn’t important and Astrid didn’t want to get distracted with her daydreaming, so she focused on what was more important.

"I heard you had a snowball battle with my mom and sister. It must have been fun, huh?" Aster said.

"Yeah, it was."

"So, what’s it like?"

"What?"

"Your snow magic. How does it feel to be able to control both ice and snow?"

"It’s amazing, I guess," Astrid replied simply but Aster wasn’t satisfied with her response.

"Is that all?"

"Um, no."

"....." Aster remained silent as he waited for her to say more.

Ever since Astrid had arrived at the castle, Aster had developed a brief understanding of what the Frost Demon princess was like.

He could see that she was always shy to start a conversation, and she really liked talking in short sentences that were always between two and three seconds long.

Moreover, he had noticed that she really didn’t like looking into a person’s eyes while talking to them.

It seemed like she was too timid to look into his eyes, but with what he had heard from his mother, Sara, Cara, and Hallie, Aster knew that Astrid was definitely not weak.

Even right now, it felt like Astrid was worried that his eyes would pop out of their sockets and slap her cheeks if she were to stare at them, and Aster couldn’t help but find this funny.

Of course, Aster found it cute to see a little princess around Astrid’s age, feeling so shy and reserved, but he had expected something a little different from a princess who happened to be a demon as well.

However, that didn’t mean that he didn’t cherish the little bonding moment they were having right now.

So, Aster listened attentively to what Astrid had to say.

"Well, being able to use ice and snow magic has its perks, because with it, I’m able to rotate between using long-range fighting styles and short-range attacks."

"Hmm, I guess that’s really cool, and I can see why Mom and my sister think you’re really cool."

"T-Thanks."

"You’re welcome, but what do you think?"

"About what?"

"About teaching me, do you think you’ll be able to do it?"

"You want to learn how to use snow magic?"

"Yeah, and ice magic."

"But, you need to have an affinity for it before you can..." Astrid began to explain, but she suddenly paused when she realized something very important. "Do you have an affinity for ice magic?"

"Um, I don’t know. But I won’t really know until I try it, right?" Aster said with a grin and the Frost Demon princess couldn’t help but smile in return.

No matter how much she thought about it, Astrid couldn’t help but wonder why everyone in the Gremory Household liked to smile and laugh a lot.

It was almost like each one of them had been bitten by a laughing bug or a happy bug which made it easy for them to spread their smiles and laughter to everyone around them.

But despite what she was thinking right now, Astrid also appreciated how refreshing it was to witness all of these behaviors in the Gremory Household.

In fact, she wouldn’t mind extending her stay in the household before returning home.

But that would have to be discussed with her mother first, before anything could be done.

"So, you’ll teach me how to cast the spells right?"

"Yeah, I could teach you whenever you are ready to learn," Astrid assured him.

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Wow, thank you, Astrid. I guess I’ll be counting on you when the tournament is over."

Astrid smiled and nodded her head in agreement.

For some reason, Astrid felt really happy, knowing that she was not only getting close to Lily but also to Aster, and she couldn’t help but wonder if Aster viewed her as a friend just as Lily did.
