My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 105: No Memory
"Exactly! But the time was contradicting. The cafe was just five minutes away from Primrose. Lucas and Brie left at 6:35, then arrived at exactly 6:40. Elijah went out at 6:45 and then arrived at 7 p.m. He could get in there at 6:50 but he was ten minutes late. What did he do? Where did he go?" Investigator Lee explained.
His three subordinates nodded in agreement. They felt amazed at how their team leader analyzed the situation. He was known to be meticulous and observant in every little detail.
"But sir, we didn’t see anything on the way to the cafe." Josh’s eyebrows curved. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"Are you sure you didn’t notice anything unusual?" Investigator Lee asked.
The three took another look at the CCTV footage. After a few minutes, Keisha suddenly banged the table startling Josh and Bryan.
"His speed. It’s too slow. He’s driving a sports car but he was just driving at maybe twenty or thirty." Keisha excitedly said.
Investigator Lee smiled. "Right! And did you notice the photos in his room? And the trophies and medals displayed in a cabinet?"
"He was a racer. The photos, trophies and medals were from the competition he had won." Bryan answered.
"But they said he was an introvert." Keisha was confused.
Josh nodded but quickly answered Keisha’s confusion. "Maybe he became an introvert after seeing the ghost of Mireya Richards. The photos were not recent. He looked younger when he won the competition. But that doesn’t mean he forgot to drive a sports car."
Keisha took her laptop, opened a web browser, and typed Elijah’s full name.
"Found it!" She exclaimed.
A lot of news articles appeared about Elijah. Keisha clicked on the first article to read aloud.
"Elijah Keith Nitori-Hulls is the only son of the King of Flousia. He was a brilliant and cheerful child. At the age of six, he started his prince’s lessons including fencing and archery. He excelled in both. While the little prince enjoyed the art of war, he also loved car racing. He won various car racing competitions abroad at a young age. He was the youngest to join one of the most popular motorsport—Formula 1."
Investigator Lee and the others were silent for a moment. They couldn’t believe that they had been deceived.
"Do you think he killed Benjamin?" Josh asked his boss.
Investigator Lee shook his head. "No. He’s just an accessory to the crime because he was protecting the real murderer."
"But you said all of them know the killer except Natalia Parker."
"Elijah knows the real killer, but Lucas and the others had also someone in mind. We’re not sure if it’s the same person but they were convinced so they are protecting him or her. In the footage, while Elijah was driving, I think someone was with him."
Keisha frowned. "Do you have an idea who it was?"
"The only people we didn’t see at the mansion were the Crown Prince and Alira Wilson. But we have no proof that they killed Benjamin nor any footage of them leaving Primrose. We have to meet them."
"But are they going to allow it? He’s a prince from another country and the next king. Let’s add that the girl is from the Wilson Clan and the next queen. Can we get permission to talk to them?" Bryan asked.
"We have to. In my twenty years of being an investigator, I think this case is too complicated and dangerous. We are facing both the mafia and the wealthiest families so we have to be careful. Let’s talk to HQ and ask permission."
In Primrose, Brie was focused on listening to the conversation of Investigator Lee and his team. She was able to put a listening bug into Keisha’s bag when she pretended to fall and the investigator was kind enough to help her.
"They are already suspecting Caden and Alira. We have to ask Uncle Kyle and my dad to not give them permission." Lucas commented.
"Don’t you think not giving them permission will only confirm their speculations? Let them talk to Caden and Alira. I think it’s best for them to explain their side."
Brie knew that Lucas was worried about his twin sister, but not allowing the investigators to talk to Caden and Alira would only convince them that they were hiding something.
"Do you think Caden killed him?" Lucas suddenly asked Brie which made her surprised.
"We both saw him leave that night. I thought he just wanted to get some fresh air, but I found blood on his shirt the next morning." Brie sighed.
Lucas took a deep breath while massaging his temple. Caden was his best friend and he would do everything to protect him and Alira.
"I didn’t talk to him that night. I didn’t call his attention but I know he saw us. That night he was in a hurry as if he was following someone."
The banging on the door caught their attention. Caroline rushed inside while glaring at Lucas.
"Why are you doubting my brother? What if the real murderer is Alira?" Caroline almost yelled.
"I didn’t say he killed Benjamin. But there’s a possibility. It’s the same for my sister. She could be the real killer." Lucas calmly answered.
Brie approached Caroline and took her hand. "Hey, we know you’re worried. We are, too. We’re just discussing what we saw that night."
Caroline nodded. Her eyes sparkled because of the tears. She took a deep breath and then sat on the chair.
"I also saw my brother that night. He came out from Alira’s room. I thought they had an argument, but I realized it was impossible because Alira was still unconscious. I was planning to approach him but his face was a mixture of fear and rage. I was scared so I hid from him. I fell asleep waiting for his return."
"Did you see any weapon?" Lucas asked.
Caroline bit her lip and stared into Lucas’ eyes.
"He always carries a gun. You know that."
"Did you try talking to him after that night?"
Caroline nodded. "I told him what I saw and asked him where he went. He said he couldn’t remember and that he had no memory of what he had done that night. Even his answer is confusing. I took it as a joke but when I heard the news about Benjamin, I started having doubts."
"What about Elijah? He also left that night." Brie said.
Elisa suddenly walked inside. She was eavesdropping, but when she heard his brother’s name, she had no choice but to show up.
"He left that night? I thought he’s in his room!" Elisa exclaimed.
"Quiet, Elisa." Brie mumbled.
Elisa closed the door behind her and then sat beside Caroline.
"Elijah loved sports before he met Mireya, right?" Lucas asked.
Elisa was a bit surprised but she managed to compose herself.
She nodded. "He was an outgoing and adventurous kid. He suddenly changed and I have no idea what happened, but since you mentioned Mireya, I think maybe that was his reason."
"The police know he lied about that night because of his car." Lucas continued.
Elisa was confused so Brie let her listen to the conversation between Investigator Lee and the others that she recorded earlier.
"That investigator is pretty good. We underestimated him." Lucas commented.
"Elijah never told us why he quit racing. He suddenly wanted to lock himself in his room. That kid has a lot of talent. He’s more capable than I am, but he changed. He became an introvert." Elisa sighed.
Brie held Elisa’s hand and smiled. "Elijah is still a good kid and a great brother to you, right? So, I think that’s more important."
Elisa nodded. "You said he left that night. Did you see him?"
Brie turned to Lucas.
"He left and came to the cafe just like what the investigator said. We were a bit surprised because we didn’t expect him to leave the house." Lucas answered.
"Did he tell you the reason?"
"He said he wanted coffee and a donut. I was glad he decided to come out so I believed him. I honestly didn’t see anything unusual." Lucas continued.
"Do you think one of us is capable of killing someone aside from Caden?" Brie asked then looked at Caroline.
"What do you mean by that question? My brother is not a murderer. He could never—" Caroline paused.
Elisa took a deep breath. "Caroline, I believe in Caden. And even if he killed Benjamin, I think he did it for all of us."
Caroline didn’t answer. In her heart, Caden could never do something like killing someone. Although, Caden didn’t tell her anything about Matthew Forelli, she knew he was the new boss of the Forelli Clan. The guns were just one of the proof. But still, she wanted to believe that her brother would never cut someone’s life.
"Investigator Lee! Sir! I think the crown prince is the killer!" Josh yelled.
Lucas and the others were shocked when they heard one of the investigators from the listening device.
