My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 784: The Marriage-Pushing Gem
That evening, it wasn’t just them. Many others were also deeply moved by the event, making them want to live in the moment.
Lin Rui handled the funeral arrangements. The burial was set for a week later, and the four older siblings would rush back if they could. It was alright if they couldn’t make it, as paying respects at the grave later would be the same.
For a child like Xiao Bao, who wasn’t even ten, death was something he simply didn’t understand. He still went to school, attended his after-school programs, and went to his tutoring classes every day.
The first to return were Er Bao and Si Bao, followed closely by San Bao. Da Bao didn’t arrive until the night before the burial, looking utterly weary. He slept until after four in the morning, then began to get busy.
The burial, arranging the banquet...
They were busy until 3:00 AM. Xiao Bao had long since fallen asleep on Si Bao’s back. The younger children, including Xiao Bao, hadn’t gone to the burial earlier that day. It was said to be taboo, as they were all still too young. When they returned home, the entire family was exhausted.
The most exhausted of all was Da Bao. He had a flight to catch at 8:00 AM, leaving him only four hours for sleep, so no one dared to disturb him.
Given the suddenness of the event, San Bao had also already bought her return ticket for the following afternoon. Er Bao and Si Bao, on the other hand, were leaving that night at eight.
Late that night, when all was quiet and everyone else was asleep, Lin Feng used the System to get some rest. Seeing the alarm clock read 5:30, he got up to make breakfast for Da Bao, packing some extra food for him to take along.
By the time breakfast was ready, Da Bao came downstairs, drawn by the tempting aroma. "Dad, didn’t you sleep?"
Lin Feng smiled. "I did. Come, eat breakfast."
Da Bao sat down. "Thanks, Dad. I can make my own breakfast now; you don’t have to do this."
Lin Feng urged him to eat. "This is some food I’ve packed for you. There are two months left until the Lunar New Year, and I wanted to ask you about you and Cai Xia. Are you going to get married?"
Still a bit sleepy, Da Bao replied while eating, "Of course we are, but I’ll have to see what my schedule looks like for the next two months..."
Lin Feng sighed. "Don’t tell me that. Go explain it to Cai Xia’s parents and see what they think."
"On our end, your mom and I have already prepared the bride price. Your grandparents have had their red envelopes ready for a long time, too, as have Er Bao and the others..."
Everything was ready; only the timing was uncertain.
Da Bao propped up his chin with his hand. "Dad, I want to get married soon, too, but there’s so much to do before and after the wedding. I just don’t have the time."
Lin Feng waved his hand dismissively. "No problem. As long as Cai Xia has time to try on a wedding dress, our two families can handle all the arrangements."
Da Bao thought for a moment. "No, that won’t work. I have to be involved in this. I’m an adult now; I can’t let you and Mom handle everything."
"If we have to, we can just have a simple wedding. That would be much more convenient and save a lot of trouble."
Lin Feng stared at his eldest son, his face impassive. "Have you fried your brain doing all that research?"
"We’re asking for her hand in marriage, not marrying off our daughter!"
"The wedding depends on what the bride’s family wants. You can’t just make the decision on your own..."
"Forget it. I’m not counting on you. I’ll contact her parents later and ask their opinion. All you’ll need to do is show up."
He was a father of a daughter, too. When it was his turn to marry her off, it certainly wouldn’t be a simple affair. If his daughter insisted on simplicity, that would be another matter, but the groom’s side could not be the one to suggest it. What’s wrong with that? Can’t the daughter he painstakingly raised get married in style?
Da Bao was speechless.
After breakfast, Lin Feng drove his son to the airport.
"Dad, I can just get a taxi."
"This is the suburbs. Where are you going to find a taxi?"
"Calling a taxi on my phone would have a starting fare of a hundred. You think you’re rolling in money?"
"...That’s not what I meant. I wanted you to go back and rest."
"No need. Don’t mind your old man’s age. I’m in great shape; you kids might not even be as healthy as me."
"Well, since you put it that way, thanks for driving me to the airport, Dad."
"We’re family. Why are you being so formal, son? I’m your father."
On the way, Lin Feng remarked with a sigh, "Son, maybe you should take a break for a while. I feel like your mind isn’t as sharp as it used to be."
"...Huh?" Da Bao asked, confused. He had been dozing in the car and hadn’t heard a word, only knowing that his father was talking to him.
Lin Feng glanced at him. "Never mind. Go back to sleep. It’s pointless talking to you."
Da Bao was completely baffled. What’s this? Why does Dad sound so disdainful? I didn’t do anything to annoy him, did I?
When they arrived at the airport, Lin Feng checked the time. Seeing his son sleeping so soundly, he decided to let him rest for another ten minutes.
Ten minutes later, Lin Feng woke Da Bao.
Da Bao rubbed his eyes and grabbed his luggage and laptop bag. "Dad, I’m heading in."
Lin Feng told him, "Your dad’s an airport VIP member. Just give them my ID, and you can go rest in the lounge."
"Oh," Da Bao replied. "It’s the same if I wait in the main area."
Lin Feng’s brow furrowed as he hurried after his son. "I swear, you kid, why don’t you ever listen?"
"Come on, I’ll go in with you."
Lin Feng had special status. He handed his son’s ID to the staff and had him escorted to the VIP lounge to rest.
"If you don’t use your dad’s privileges now, when will you?"
Normally, Lin Feng wouldn’t interfere with what Da Bao did, but seeing his son so exhausted today broke his heart.
A staff member brought over the boarding pass.
Lin Feng showed no intention of leaving, instead letting his son lean back and rest. "You rest for a bit. I’ll wake you when it’s time to board."
Da Bao shook his head. "Dad, you should go home. I know what to do."
Lin Feng didn’t budge. "Go back to do what? I already made breakfast; they’ll know to eat when they get up."
"Besides, I’m getting old and don’t sleep much. If I go back now, the house will be noisy, and I won’t be able to sleep anyway."
Da Bao knew Lin Feng was joking, as their house had excellent soundproofing. It was obvious his dad was just saying that out of concern, trying to hide his feelings.
Da Bao was touched. "Okay, Dad. I’ll sleep for a bit. Wake me up when it’s time."
Hearing this, Lin Feng’s expression finally softened. "Good. You sleep. I’ll wake you."
Due to his work, Da Bao had developed a special skill. When necessary, he could fall asleep in an instant.
Seeing his son so tired, Lin Feng grumbled under his breath while straightening his son’s clothes. "The moment this kid grew up, he became such a handful. He’s not cute like he used to be. Why does he always have to go against his parents?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
A staff member came to inform Lin Feng that it was time to board.
Lin Feng exclaimed softly and quickly woke his son. "Son, get up. They’ve started boarding."
Da Bao jolted awake and began gathering his things. "Dad, I’m leaving."
Lin Feng followed behind him. "Message me when you land, you hear?"
"Call home more often. Leave the wedding arrangements to us adults..."
Da Bao was already hurrying away. "I know, Dad! I’m leaving!" he called back.
Lin Feng simply waved, a faint sigh escaping his lips. Ah, with so many children, the worrying never ends.
On his way back, Lin Feng received a call from Zhang Yuxi. "Did Da Bao get on the plane?"
"I watched him board. Are you up?"
Zhang Yuxi hummed in response. "Are you taking Xiao Bao to school today? It’s out of my way."
Lin Feng glanced at the time. "Sure, no problem. I’m on my way home now."
"Oh, never mind," Zhang Yuxi said quickly. "San Bao said she’ll take him. I have to go, I’m about to start driving."
When Lin Feng got home, he went back to sleep for a bit, planning to wake up around ten to start cooking.
