My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 54
Alexander took a deep breath and explained, "Isabella is struggling mentally. Being alone is dangerous for her..."
Hearing this, a wave of helplessness washed over me.
How could I make Alexander understand that I didn’t want to get involved in Isabella’s issues? It wasn’t something I should feel obligated to sympathize with.
Moreover, when I spoke with Isabella this morning, there were no signs that she was mentally unstable.
But if I said what I really thought, he’d accuse me of being heartless.
"Even if she’s not in immediate danger, you’re still going. You care about her, so why make it sound like an obligation?" I said coldly. "And I don’t owe you any explanations."
"I know you like Julian, but you shouldn’t have chosen this moment to meet him, especially not bringing him to see Pop-Pop..."
"Isn’t that what you did too? You went to see Isabella at a crucial time and brought her to see Pop-Pop. I’m just following your lead."
"Isabella had an episode, and I had to calm her down. You were the one who suggested she could come once Pop-Pop was in a regular room. Why are you upset now?" Alexander asked, his expression confused.
I was taken aback. How could Alexander defend his actions so confidently?
My husband had been called away by another woman, spent the night with her, and then brought her to meet the family the next day—and now he had the nerve to ask me why I was upset. It was absurd.
To him, Isabella’s well-being always came first. When she had an episode, he had to soothe her. What a righteous excuse.
But he never considered soothing my feelings, and instead, accused me of lacking empathy.
I forced a smile. "Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention—Julian’s health is fragile. He can’t handle stress. Since he wanted to see Pop-Pop, I agreed to help ease his mind. I hope you understand, after all, the CEO of Hawthorne should be able to show some empathy, right?"
At my words, Alexander’s face froze, and he spoke through clenched teeth, "Vivienne, Sinclair!"
"What?" I raised an eyebrow and looked at him. "Isn’t this normal? CEO Hawthorne, I don’t understand why you’re angry."
"Vivienne! I’m not joking with you!" Alexander’s brow furrowed deeply, his eyes dark and intense.
"I’m not joking either," I said seriously.
"Are you trying to provoke me on purpose?"
I smiled. "Provoke you? Why would I want to provoke you?"
"Vivienne, don’t forget what you promised Pop-Pop!"
I never expected Alexander to use Pop-Pop’s words against me like this.
It was laughable.
"I only promised Pop-Pop that I’d get along with you, but I didn’t make any other promises."
Seeing the dark look on Alexander’s face, I curved my lips. "CEO Hawthorne, those were your exact words yesterday. You can go meet your lover and stay out all night. Why can’t I do the same? Before blaming me, maybe you should take a look at what you’ve done!"
Alexander fell silent for a moment. "If you’re upset by that, I apologize. Yesterday was unavoidable. I never meant to break my promise to Pop-Pop."
I looked at him with a mocking smile. "Alexander, you don’t even understand what Pop-Pop meant! Pop-Pop wants us to genuinely get along and reconsider the divorce—not just pretend to please him!"
"I understand."
"You understand what?!" I shot back. "Tell me, have you ever seriously considered cutting ties with Isabella, staying with me instead of divorcing me?"
Seeing Alexander fall silent, I couldn’t help but laugh. "What’s wrong? Why aren’t you speaking now?"
"I’ve thought about it," Alexander said, meeting my gaze, cutting me off.
My words caught in my throat. I searched his expression for any sign of guilt or hesitation.
But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t find any.
I opened my mouth. "Alexander, there’s no need to lie to me."
"I didn’t lie," Alexander slowly stepped forward and stopped right in front of me. "I really have thought about it—about separating from her and staying with you without getting a divorce."
I lifted my gaze to meet his glassy, transparent eyes. For a moment, my heart fluttered.
But it was just for a fleeting moment. I quickly regained my composure. "Alright then. Answer me this: the next time Isabella calls you, saying she’s having an episode or is missing, will you go to her?"
Alexander paused for a beat.
I could see the hesitation in his eyes and couldn’t help but sneer. "You’ve only thought about it. When you show me some real action, then we’ll talk. Now go back. I need to rest."
If Alexander is still like this—ready to drop everything and run the moment Isabella calls—then his thoughts mean nothing.
I won’t have a husband who can be called away by another woman at any moment.
Alexander was the best at playing games. I wouldn’t believe his words anymore.
"It’s only nine. You’re going to sleep already?" he asked.
"I’m a little tired today."
"Would you like to relax?"
"Relax?" I looked up at him.
"Mm."
He stood in the shadows, his face barely visible, hidden in the darkness.
"How do you relax?"
"Just sit still."
Alexander knelt before me, placing his large hand on my thigh and slowly sliding it up my skin. His hand was scorching hot, rubbing in slow, deliberate circles.
A tingling sensation shot straight to my brain, and I shuddered, biting my lower lip.
He studied my expression, then lifted the hem of my skirt...
"NO—" I pressed his hand down.
We’d just argued, and now he wanted to do this? What did he even think of himself?
Did he really think I could be so easily pacified?
A wave of frustration built in my chest, and I said quietly, "I’m tired today. I don’t want to."
"Really?" Alexander met my gaze, his expression intense as he slowly pulled his hand back and stood up.
I kept my eyes down, pressing my legs together tighter.
He turned to leave.
I unconsciously clenched the fabric of my skirt, opened my mouth to speak, but no words came.
Suddenly, I heard the sound of running water from the bathroom.
I looked up, realizing the bathroom door was ajar. Alexander hadn’t left. He’d just gone into the bathroom.
A few moments later, he emerged, drying his hands, his eyes on me.
I quickly lowered my gaze.
Alexander smiled, then knelt in front of me again. "I rinsed my mouth."
His fingers brushed against my leg, sending a cool shiver through me. My body trembled involuntarily, and I tightened my grip on the fabric of my skirt.
He gently took my hand, moved it aside, and gripped my knees, slowly parting them. "Just relax and enjoy."
"What?" I stared at him, my mouth slightly open, licking my lips in disbelief.
Did he even realize what he was doing?
But Alexander didn’t give me time to think. He was already in motion.
It was as if the teasing from last night had awakened something inside me, something that still craved satisfaction. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Now, the sensations came rushing in, overwhelming me.
I sank back into the couch, closing my eyes as my breath quickened.
I bit my lower lip, fighting to keep quiet.
I was floating in a haze of sensation, lost in the moment.
Then, a knock on the door shattered the stillness. "Is the patient here? We need to check your condition. Is it a good time?"
I froze, my body tense.
I hadn’t been to the hospital last night or this morning, so the doctor must have come for a checkup today...
I was so grateful it was a private hospital where the nurses respected privacy and wouldn’t enter a room without permission.
"Tell her to leave for now," Alexander said, lifting his head.
I gritted my teeth and took a deep breath. "Sorry, it’s not a good time. Can you come back later...?"
"Alright. I’ll come back in a while."
The sound of the nurse’s footsteps faded away.
I exhaled in relief, but before I could settle, a flash of bright light startled me.
After a brief moment of silence, my face burned with embarrassment.
Alexander smiled faintly, wiped his face with his hand, and grabbed a wet wipe from the table to clean me up. He then turned to the bathroom to rinse his mouth.
When he came out, I was lying back on the sofa, looking completely content.
"You can go now. I need to rest." My tone left no room for further desires.
Alexander frowned slightly. "Alright. Rest well."
He walked slowly toward the door, closing it gently behind him.
I watched the door close, letting out a small sigh of relief. After a moment, I pressed the nurse call button.
