My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 55
My eyesight had nearly returned to normal, so there was no longer any reason for me to stay in the hospital.
The next morning, after breakfast, I handled my discharge paperwork, called James to bring my things home, and then headed to the hospital to visit Grandpa.
The room was eerily quiet.
Grandpa was sitting on the bed, while Evelyn was seated on the couch, both of them turned away from each other, avoiding eye contact.
As soon as I walked in, I could feel the tension in the air.
"Pop-Pop, Nana," I glanced back and forth between the two, "Did you have breakfast?"
"Yes."
"Yes."
They answered in unison.
"So... what’s going on? Did you two have a fight?"
"It’s not a fight, he’s just throwing a tantrum for no reason," Evelyn shot Grandpa an irritated look.
I turned to Grandpa. "Pop-Pop, what did you do to upset Nana?"
"I didn’t upset her..." Grandpa muttered, his face full of guilt.
"Then what’s going on?"
Evelyn let out a cold laugh. "Vivienne, tell him. His body isn’t fully healed, and yet he’s throwing a fit about wanting to go home. Isn’t he just trying to irritate me?"
Grandpa sighed helplessly. "Staying in the hospital is just resting; it’s better to rest at home."
He’d mentioned this a few days ago—he really didn’t like being in the hospital.
I tried to reason with him, "Pop-Pop, you’re not fully healed yet. Why don’t you stay here a little longer?"
"I know my body best. I’m fine. What’s the point of staying here?" Grandpa puffed out his chest, looking confident.
"Pop-Pop, that’s not how it works. We need to check with the doctor."
"No need to check. I know," Grandpa insisted, patting his chest.
"Pop-Pop..."
"What’s all this about?"
Alexander walked in from outside, dressed in a suit and carrying a bag of food.
"Why aren’t you at the office?" Grandpa frowned at him.
"I thought I’d check in on Pop-Pop first, then head to work," Alexander replied, stepping forward. He placed the bag on the table, glanced at me, and added, "I was worried you hadn’t had breakfast, so I brought some from Mingxiang Restaurant."
He walked up to me, placing the bag in front of me. Evelyn, sensing his intention, didn’t say anything. "Your Pop-Pop and I already ate. Vivienne, you should eat."
"I already had breakfast..."
"Then have a little more."
I gave him a flat look.
I opened a few containers from the bag and offered one to Grandpa.
"Pop-Pop, would you like something to eat?"
"I’m not hungry. Alexander, Vivienne, I’m fine now. There’s no need for you to keep coming to the hospital. You should get back to work. You’re not doctors—there’s no point in being here every day."
Grandpa sighed deeply, clearly frustrated.
Alexander looked at me, confused.
I explained, "Pop-Pop wants to go home."
Grandpa, sensing that Alexander might side with Evelyn, cut him off before he could say anything. "Alexander, don’t worry about it. I know my own body. It’s not as serious as you think. Staying in the hospital isn’t comfortable. They keep restricting everything."
Alexander paused, looking down for a moment. "Pop-Pop, your health isn’t something to take lightly. How about I check with Dr. Harrison? If he agrees, we can arrange for you to go home."
Grandpa wasn’t so sure. He didn’t know if Dr. Harrison would agree, but if the doctor said no, his own insistence wouldn’t change a thing. He waved it off. "Go ahead."
Alexander’s POV
I stepped out of the room and headed for Dr. Harrison’s office.
I knew Grandpa’s health wasn’t great. While I wanted him to stay in the hospital for treatment, I understood that being here all the time would only make him feel more trapped and depressed.
Dr. Harrison spoke candidly, "To be honest, Chairman Hawthorne’s condition can’t be reversed at this stage. It might be best to respect his wishes and let him recover at home. A positive mood can help with recovery. I’ll give you a list of necessary medications and equipment, and my assistant can come by your house every day to check on him."
"Okay, thank you, Dr. Harrison."
I walked out of Dr. Harrison’s office and made my way back to Grandpa’s room.
As I turned the corner, I overheard two doctors talking.
"Ex-husband? So they were really married?" The doctor on the left asked.
"It seems so. Probably just recently divorced," the doctor on the right replied knowingly.
Chairman Hawthorne is one of the hospital’s shareholders, currently hospitalized here, and Alexander Hawthorne, the CEO of Vanguard Global Enterprises, frequently visits. The staff had all picked up on the buzz.
Lately, I’d been in the news, with reporters lurking outside the hospital and even trying to sneak into the VIP ward. The hospital had sent out an internal memo to employees and security to keep the situation under control.
The right-side doctor realized that the patient he had treated a few days ago had been in and out of Chairman Hawthorne’s room, and that Vivienne was the "mistress" in the news.
But Vivienne had specifically asked him not to tell her ex-husband she was pregnant.
At that time, he assumed Vivienne’s husband must be a jerk, but he never expected it to be Alexander.
The actress in question was the real mistress, and the news about her affair with Alexander had only come out recently—likely the reason for Alexander and Vivienne’s divorce.
"How do you know they were married?" The doctor on the left asked.
The right-side doctor was about to answer when he spotted me and quickly straightened up, greeting, "CEO Hawthorne."
"CEO Hawthorne," the doctor on the left echoed.
I gave them a slight nod and walked past them.
Then I heard a faint voice behind me. The right-side doctor lowered his voice and said, "Miss Vivienne told me herself, the day she was admitted."
She said, “CEO Hawthorne is my ex-husband.”
I paused for a moment before continuing.
Back in the ward, Grandpa impatiently asked, “What did Dr. Harrison say?”
Vivienne’s POV
Evelyn and I both turned to look at Alexander.
Alexander replied, “Dr. Harrison said Pop-Pop can be discharged and rest at home.”
Upon hearing this, Grandpa’s confidence grew. He glanced at Evelyn and me. “I told you, there’s nothing wrong with me. I’m perfectly fine! You two are just overreacting.”
Evelyn and I exchanged a helpless look.
“Can I go home now?” Grandpa asked.
Alexander shook his head. “Not yet. I still need to have my staff get all the medication and equipment Dr. Harrison listed before Pop-Pop can go home.”
Grandpa’s face fell. “How long will that take?”
“Don’t worry, Pop-Pop. It’ll only take a day or two. You’ll just have to stay in the hospital a little longer.”
“Well, if that’s the case...” Grandpa pouted but reluctantly agreed.
Still, knowing he could go home in a couple of days, Grandpa’s mood lifted. He waved at Alexander and me. “You two don’t need to stay here. Go on and do whatever you need to do.”
Alexander didn’t respond, just looked at me. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
I stood up and said, “Pop-Pop, Nana, I’ll leave now. I’ll come see you both tomorrow.”
“Go ahead,” Grandpa said.
I walked out, and Alexander followed me. We exited the room together, side by side.
“I heard from James that you plan to leave the hospital too?” Alexander asked.
“Yeah.”
“How are your eyes now? Still blurry?”
“They’re almost fully recovered. I had another checkup this morning. I’m good to go.”
Alexander nodded gently. “Where are you headed now? I’ll give you a ride.”
“Straight to the company.”
“Not going to rest for a couple of days?”
“I’ve already taken enough time off.”
V&R is entering its growth phase now, and work in the department has started to pick up. My phone has been buzzing nonstop these past few days.
We arrived at the garage together.
