My Alphas' Dark Desires-Chapter 366: He Killed His Mum
****************
Chapter 366
~Kai’s POV~
I resisted for a half-breath, then let the motion carry me. My hands trembled when I set them on my knees. I glared at Xander until my eyes watered.
"You better pray you can fix this," I spat. "Because if Dristan proves innocent and you gave them the knife—" My voice broke off. I wasn’t finished, but the sound in my throat stopped me.
Ash’s hand remained on my shoulder like a warning and a promise. "Breathe," he said quietly. "We deal. We don’t destroy what we need."
I kept my gaze on Xander, nails whitening. I wanted to move. I wanted to clean this mess with blood and teeth. Instead I sat, strapped to the coiled rage, counting breaths until the rush dulled enough for plans.
Xander rolled his eyes at me as if I was being ridiculous. Rather than feeling baited, I did my best to ignore him.
"There’s more to Dristan than meets the eye," Xander began. I could feel his stares had darted elsewhere from me.
"How so?" Xade questioned.
"Around when we first came, I had seen him use mind control on a girl that swapped clans with Valerie."
"What?" everyone chorused, but me.
"Are you aware of such a situation?" Axel asked Xade. He shook his head, and when his eyes fell on me, I nodded.
"Remember when the fifth guild master couldn’t resume and the clans from his guild were shared amongst us?"
Axel nodded, and so did Xade. "Valerie had been in my clan, but kudos to Dristan; somehow she became his clan member."
"Yes. And he did it again to Brielle. Though I had gotten to her first before he did. I discovered he did it to her at the clothing store they had gone to."
"So before Dristan even started this, you did it first? Guess you can’t blame him," I retorted.
"Yes," Xade agreed. However, when I looked into his eyes, what I saw wasn’t exactly screaming. I agree. "True to what you said, but I disagree. I had no idea Dristan had mind-controlling powers. Did you?"
Xade was right on so many levels. It was then it hit me that the problem was bigger than what we all knew.
"This is..." Ash began. "I don’t know what to say. I can’t say I am surprised."
"What’s that supposed to mean?" Axel asked sharply.
"I did mention that he killed his mother at one time."
"What?" I stood faster than Ash could stop me, if he was trying to, but he didn’t.
He wasn’t looking at me. He was more or less lost in thoughts.
"It was what I said back then when we first came, during the first training that led us to fighting."
Ash looked up, reading the room. The look on everyone’s face was... simply said, he fucked up.
"Why would you say that to him?" Ace asked.
"Because it is the truth. It was how he got his blue eyes."

~Valerie’s POV~
I didn’t see my mates again the previous evening, but when I woke up the next morning with Solstice beside me, everything seemed okay.
I slipped out of bed and picked up my phone to check the time when I saw a message from Ace.
I opened the message, and what I read made my chest tighten.
Ace: There’s something you need to hear. Xander’s behind the mind control.
"What?"
I exited the message, wanting to call Ace when I saw two more messages from Kai and Xade.
I clicked on Xade’s first.
Xade: It has gotten way out of hand. Xander’s involved, and so was Dristan. What do we do now?
My mind was already reeling.
I clicked on Kai’s message, expecting something similar, but I got something else.
Kai: Valerie, we have to find Dristan and speak to him. I don’t care what they say about him, I know I am not rational, but I believe he needs us. He needs you, his mate.
So many thoughts rushed through my mind.
What did Dristan do? And what did Xander do?
Why would he attack these people, knowing it could put him in trouble?
Dragging my bottom lip between my teeth, I began pacing the length of my room, thinking of the best action to take.
Call Xander first, or Xade, or even Dristan?
Just then Solstice stirred in her sleep, reached up to rub her eyes, and soon, she was awake.
"Solstice."
"Hey Valerie. Good morning."
"Good morning. Slept well?" I masked my unease with a soft smile, but the look on my cousin’s face screamed she was not buying it at this point.
"Yes. You?"
"Yeah, but I know that smile, Valerie. You are fidgeting and pacing, and your heartbeat just won’t calm down. What went wrong?"
I did not know how she could read me so well, but I guess growing up with her by my side for the last ten years counted.
"True," I admitted and plopped my ass on the bed next to her. "It’s Dristan."
"Because of Marianne?"
I nodded.
"Do you think he did it?" Before I would have shaken my head, but now...
I shook my head. "He did not."
Not until the facts were out with more concrete proof. "I’d say he was in the clear."
"So?" Solstice’s eyes studied me. "Talk to me, Val."
"It’s just..." I shook my head and patted her cheeks. "Let me clarify things first, and then I can let you know what’s going on."
"And?"
"And what?"
This time my brows crashed as I waited to hear what she had to say. "The reason why you’ve been off lately and sneaking out of the dorm more often."
"Off?"
"Yes. Like yesterday when you walked in like a zombie, got into your room, and practically ignored me."
"I did?"
Solstice gave me the look, as if questioning if I was alright. "You see, you can’t remember, which leads me to the question of, were you hypnotized? If yes, by whom? Who the hell have you been seeing lately, Valerie?"
I was a bit speechless, but it got worse when she added, "Or should I say, what Nightshade clue have you been chasing?"
