~Chapter 367~

~Valerie’s POV~

I wondered how Solstice knew, since I was sure I did not give myself away.

I got my answer from he next response. "You forget, Valerie, I was trained to be a spy like you. I know when something’s up."

I smiled at her. Guess I’d be telling he rmy secret soon.

"Oh, and don’t forget that was the reason why Dad agreed to let me come back to your school."

I gave a nod. "Sure."

"So spill."

She foled her arms, sat crossed legged on the bed and waited.

"I found them."

Her brows furrowed when she heard that. "Found who... whoa, wait!"

Solstice jumped up on my bed, with her hands clasped around her mouth. "No way." Even though her voice was muffled, I heard her loud and clear.

"You found Nightshade Thorn?"

I nodded, trying to keep myself from laughing at her reaction.

"Oh my God! I could scream."

"No, you won’t." I jumped up with her on the bed and collapsed my hand around her mouth before coming down the bed with her.

Solstice still took a while to fully take in the information but by the time she did, she was all smiles and teary eyed.

"I’m happy for you."

"Not yet. I haven’t entered yet."

"Why, what’s wrong?"

"I just finished my second test. So until the last, well..."

"Okies. No biggie."

My phone’s notification rang out. I immediately went to check it out, hoping it was a message from Xade or Dristan.

Ace: Can you come to the Alphas’ House? We need to see Principal Whitmore. Well technically, Xander wants to report in.

I did not know hwo to feel about this. So quickly, I replied, "Coming," dropped my phone and went to take a bath, leaving Solstice to herself.

"Boy trouble I guess?" she calle dout after me.

I ignored her and went to shower. By the time I was in the Heirs’ house, I met everyone there except for Dristan obviously.

The grim look on their faces spoke a lot.

"Hey."

Ace walked up to me, hugged me and gave me a peck on the lips.

Ace’s peck lingered a second longer than usual soft, grounding kiss he gave at times like this.

The kind of gesture that said, brace yourself. I caught the unease in his eyes before he looked away.

Ash gave a curt nod from the armchair, his posture rigid. Xade leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his jaw tight.

Kai stood by the window, hands shoved into his pockets, eyes shadowed. Axel, usually the loudest, was uncharacteristically silent, his gaze fixed on the floor.

And then there was Xander—standing in the centre of the room like he’d been waiting for judgment.

"Okay," I said slowly, scanning their faces. "What’s going on?"

No one answered immediately. The air in the Heirs’ House felt thick with unspoken words. The low hum of the chandelier buzzed faintly overhead, filling the silence.

"You may want to sit down," Xander said finally.

That alone told me enough.

I sank into the nearest couch, eyes flicking between them. "Can someone please tell me what’s going on before I lose my mind?"

Xander stepped forward. The chandelier light caught the faint purple sheen at the base of his silver hair—it almost looked like it was bleeding colour. He took a deep breath, his expression calm but strained.

"I’m sorry," he said quietly.

"For?" My brows drew together. "Why?"

"For breaking your trust," he said. "And for impersonating your mate."

For a second, I didn’t process it. My mind blinked blankly between his words and his face. Impersonating Dristan?

When it hit, my chest tightened—not from anger, not immediately, but from disbelief. "You did what?" I asked, the words coming out softer than I expected.

Xander didn’t flinch. "When I first came to school grounds, I knew Dristan was the most feared Alpha heir. I thought if I could use that... presence, I could scare off the people hurting you. So I took on his form a few times. I never meant for it to go this far."

I let out a slow breath, eyes narrowing slightly. "You pretended to be him. Without telling me. Without telling anyone."

His silence was answer enough.

"Where’s Dristan?" I asked finally. "Have you told him?"

That question hung in the air like a blade. Every gaze flickered to Kai.

He shifted where he stood, rubbing the back of his neck before speaking. "They... they believe he killed his mum. That’s why his eyes turned blue."

The world tilted. My breath hitched. "What?"

The words barely escaped my lips. My heart pounded so hard it hurt. Dristan? His mother?

Images flashed—his cold stares, his silence, the weight he always carried. The way he avoided questions about his past. It couldn’t be.

"Do you believe it?" I asked, voice tight.

Kai didn’t answer right away. "I don’t know what to believe right now."

The silence after that was deafening.

I looked at Xander again. "So what are you going to tell Principal Whitmore?"

Xander’s expression steadied, a flicker of defiance in his silver eyes. "The truth," he said. "All of it. I may have impersonated Dristan before, but I didn’t hurt Marianne."

"Then who did?" I pressed, my voice barely above a whisper.

He hesitated, gaze dropping briefly before locking back on mine. "Dristan," he said slowly, "or someone else impersonating him."

~Dristan’s POV~

"So you’re saying you have something to confess," Principal Whitmore began, her voice level but sharp enough to cut through the silence, "but you aren’t the one who hurt Marianne?"

I nodded once, keeping my gaze fixed on the polished surface of her desk. "Yes. I’ve used hypnosis before, but not dark magic. And I only did that on two people earlier in the semester."

Her fingers tapped lightly on the desk. "That doesn’t explain your case, Dristan."

I swallowed a breath and leaned back in my seat, folding my hands to keep from clenching them.

"I know how it sounds," I said finally, my voice lower than I intended. "But I’m telling you the truth. I don’t use forbidden spells. Not after what happened last year with that student from the colony in the dark witches lineage."

Whitmore studied me in silence. The faint glow from the rune lamp behind her threw soft shadows across her face, hiding whatever judgment lay in her eyes.

"And yet, here we are again," she said. "Another student injured. Another trail leading back to you."

"That trail is wrong," I said sharply. "Whoever set this up knew exactly what they were doing. They wanted it to point to me."

Her lips pressed into a thin line. "You’re not making it easy to defend yourself. You have a history of control-based abilities. You’ve been caught fighting more times than I can count. You disappeared without explanation. And now this."

I rubbed my temples. "If I told you the truth about those two days, you’d think I was lying."

"Try me."

I hesitated. Valerie’s face flashed in my mind—her anger, her confusion. I couldn’t drag her name into this. Not yet. Not until I had proof. "I can’t. Not yet," I said instead. "But I’m working on it."

Principal Whitmore exhaled through her nose. Her disappointment was clear in her tone.

"You’re playing a dangerous game, Dristan. If you’re innocent, you need to prove it before this spirals further out of control. Because right now, every report I’ve received says otherwise."
