My Aloof Husband Can't Stop His Devoted Affection-Chapter 559 - 024: Change_3
But he didn’t rush to drive away. Instead, he sat in the car in silence for a long time, eventually taking out his phone to dial the number of that woman who felt utterly unfamiliar to him... Wu Qianxin.
However, a pleasant mechanical female voice came from the other end of the call, notifying him that the person he was trying to reach was currently unavailable, causing him to furrow his brows.
Recalling what Doctor Huang had just told him, Nan Jiayan felt a mix of doubt and suspicion, suddenly having a rather bad idea.
Yet, this was merely his current conjecture, and he didn’t particularly want to meddle in Nan Xueyou’s affairs. It’s just that with Little Yu’er currently in his care, he couldn’t ignore it entirely. If Nan Xueyou were to leave someday, Little Yu’er, only four or five years old, would have only her biological mother, Wu Qianxin, to rely on.
However, her biological mother went missing, intensifying the uneasy thoughts in his mind.
With this in mind, Nan Jiayan quickly started his car, wanting to find out whether it was really Wu Qianxin who dropped Little Yu’er off at his place.
So, after returning to Nanfeng District, Nan Jiayan didn’t even stop for a meal and went straight to the property management to check the morning’s surveillance for their building.
Sure enough, at 10:12, Wu Qianxin was seen pulling a child’s suitcase with one hand while holding Little Yu’er with the other as they entered the elevator.
After reaching the floor he lived on, Wu Qianxin squatted down to pat Little Yu’er’s head, hugged her, gave some instructions, then stood up to ring the doorbell. She quickly waved goodbye and left in the elevator.
"Mr. Nan, is there a problem? Did something happen?" The property manager asked in confusion, noticing Nan Jiayan’s somewhat serious expression.
Nan Jiayan snapped back to reality, shook his head, and smiled faintly, "No, thank you for your help."
"You’re welcome, Mr. Nan, no trouble at all."
Nan Jiayan nodded at him and left the surveillance room, heading back to his building. While in the elevator, he suddenly remembered something, went back to the parking lot, retrieved Lu Shishu’s bag from the car, and then went upstairs.
When he reached his doorstep and was about to enter his password, Nan Jiayan noticed a sticky note. Whether it was seven years ago or now, he could recognize Lu Shishu’s handwriting at a glance.
Looking at the short message on it, his previously heavy mood lifted slightly, and a small smile appeared on his lips as he entered the password and went inside.
After changing his shoes, Nan Jiayan walked into the kitchen, noticing that the morning’s dishes had been cleaned up thoroughly, which brought a knowing smile to his face. He took some ingredients from the fridge, made something simple to settle lunch, and then sat on the couch going through Nan Xueyou’s medical records while waiting for Lu Shishu and the others to return.
As it approached four o’clock, Nan Jiayan realized that Lu Shishu and the others had not returned yet. Since she didn’t have her phone with her, calling her wasn’t an option, which left him feeling a bit stumped. After some hesitation, he took off the vintage chain glasses from his nose, set Buxia aside, and went over to Lu Shishu’s place across the street, ringing the doorbell tentatively.
On the second ring, the door suddenly opened, revealing a pretty face in front of him. He was momentarily stunned, then chuckled lightly, "When did you all come back?"
"Came back right after lunch." Lu Shishu leaned against the doorframe lazily.
"No wonder. I wondered why I hadn’t heard any noise from your side returning."
"When did you get back?"
"A little after two." Nan Jiayan peeked inside, curious, "Where’s Little Yu’er?"
"Asleep! Still hasn’t woken up," Lu Shishu replied coolly, casting him a sidelong glance, "You’re just in time, come take a look at what your little sister did to my place."
"Hmm?" Nan Jiayan looked at her retreating figure in confusion, but when he reached the living room, he met Lu Shishu’s helpless gaze. As he followed her eyes, his whole body froze, incredulously twitching at the corners of his mouth, "What... happened here?"
Lu Shishu shrugged, "After you left, I intended to take a shower, but I couldn’t leave her alone, so I let her draw in here. And voilà, this is her masterpiece. Isn’t it beautiful?"
Nan Jiayan was at a loss for words, "You didn’t clean it up because you wanted me to see it?"
"More than that, you’re responsible for cleaning this mess up."
"Me?"
"Who else?"
