Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 482: I Prefer Vegetarian
This time, Audrey Sutton didn’t need Shane Warner to remind her. When she went out, she dutifully wrapped herself in a small padded jacket.
An autumn rain brings a chill. It’s just fall, but it’s already cold enough to wear a down jacket.
Since Audrey Sutton found out she was pregnant, she’s been particularly mindful of her body, worried about any mishaps.
Shane Warner came downstairs, saw her wrapped up warm, and said, "Why are you so well-behaved now? Didn’t I always have to force you to dress warmly before? In heavy snow, you’d only wear a little dress, and even skip pantyhose?"
Audrey Sutton glared at him, thinking back to when she was competing with Clarissa Morgan, afraid of embarrassing him. He didn’t feel sorry for her and even teased her about it.
Audrey Sutton reached for the scarf she prepared for him on the sofa, walked over to him while wrapping it around his neck, and said, "I’m getting old, afraid of the cold, okay?"
Shane Warner couldn’t really handle the word "old." He gently tapped her on the head, looked down at the light grey scarf she was tying around his neck, then at the matching one on hers, and chuckled, "Did you buy new scarves to show off? It’s not even October, and it’s not that cold yet."
Audrey Sutton pouted and said, "What do you know? As you age, you have to take good care of your body. Besides, the temperature has dropped, and it’s very cold at night."
Shane Warner asked, "Who’s aging?"
Audrey Sutton adjusted his scarf, smiled contently, and said, "I’m getting older, alright?"
Shane Warner said, "You’re just lacking exercise; once we’re home tonight, you need a good ’workout.’
Audrey Sutton replied, "There’s really no saving you!"
Looking at Shane Warner’s hungry beast-like look, Audrey Sutton couldn’t help but worry about what he’d do during her nine months of pregnancy.
Audrey Sutton had seen many news stories about husbands cheating during their wives’ pregnancies. She never thought it would happen to her, but lately, with Shane Warner’s recent frequency, she’s started to worry he might not resist outside temptations.
Shane Warner glanced at her sitting in the passenger seat, and softly asked, "What were you thinking about that distracted you?"
Audrey Sutton snapped out of it, looked at Shane Warner, slightly furrowed her brow, with a hint of appraisal in her eyes.
Shane Warner: "What’s wrong?"
Audrey Sutton reached out to turn off the music in the car, as if she wanted a good talk with Shane Warner, and said, "I just thought of something."
Shane Warner: "Hmm?"
Audrey Sutton: "Suppose after I get pregnant, you can’t touch me for a long time, and a particularly beautiful woman with a great figure and personality starts pursuing you. Would you sneak around for a moment of pleasure?"
Shane Warner: "What strange drama have you been watching again? Why are you suddenly asking these questions?"
Audrey Sutton frowned discontentedly and pushed, "Just say if you would or not!"
Shane Warner chuckled and said, "Do you have so little faith in your husband?"
Audrey Sutton: "You said before, it’s a physiological response, like wanting food when hungry, doesn’t require thinking."
Shane Warner: "But being hungry doesn’t mean eating anything."
Audrey Sutton: "Do you understand not being picky when hungry?"
Shane Warner: "Not being picky about food is for those lacking self-control. When I’m hungry, I only like my favorite dishes."
Audrey Sutton paused for two seconds, as if processing Shane Warner’s words, then smiled contentedly and asked, "Then what dishes do you like?"
Shane Warner watched her smile, his lips also lifting while he felt relieved, gazing ahead, he chuckled, "I like vegetarian, especially leafy greens."
Audrey Sutton’s smile froze, glared at him, and said, "I like aged meat slices."
Shane Warner: "Not fond of fresh meat?"
Audrey Sutton chuckled, "Oh, I do! Simon Sue’s new movie released a few days ago, he was so handsome! How about we go watch it tonight?"
Shane Warner gave her a cold stare but said nothing.
Audrey Sutton reached out to turn the music back on, humming along with the beat from the speakers.
At The Suttons’ house, it was not yet five; the brothers hadn’t finished work.
"Unemployed" Norman Sutton went abroad for an e-sports competition. You couldn’t see him gaming in the living room anymore.
Hazel Yates was in the kitchen, preparing dinner with the household staff. Audrey Sutton carried out a fruit platter from the kitchen, placed it on the coffee table, walked to Shane Warner, picked up a red-black cherry, and brought it to his mouth for him to eat. She quietly asked, "Are your parents coming over later?"
Shane Warner opened his mouth, bit the cherry she offered, and replied, "They didn’t say they’re coming. They don’t remember my birthday."
Audrey Sutton was slightly startled; parents not remembering a birthday felt disheartening. But hearing Shane Warner say it so casually, she wondered if he was long accustomed to it.
All along, she felt his parents had little concern for him. Although they’d inquire after him on meeting, they rarely reached out proactively. She wondered if in the elder’s eyes, Shane Warner was just the tool they’d cultivated.
They only cared if he wielded enough power, indifferent to how tough it was for him to achieve it.
Audrey Sutton paused, then asked, "How about I call them and invite them over for dinner?"
Shane Warner rejected immediately without even pondering, "No need, it’s not a big deal. Having you with me is enough."
When he spoke, his expression and tone were light, but Audrey Sutton felt a pang of sorrow for him.
He’d never spoken of these things to her, although she’d heard from Faye Xavier and Lan Irving, before marriage, Shane Warner focused all his efforts on work. However, she remembered him as quite family-oriented. Ever since he got married, unless on business trips, he’d never stayed out overnight.
Perhaps it’s because he lacked family love from childhood that he now treasuring this home dearly.
Audrey Sutton discreetly rested her hand on her lower belly, imagining how thrilled he would be knowing about this new life existence, likely even happier than her.
Not long after, Audrey Sutton heard a car outside. She immediately ran to the door to peek, noticing the dark green Bentley parked in the yard.
Recognizing the car, Audrey Sutton quickly went outside to greet them.
She initially thought it was Phoebe King driving, but the person stepping out of the driver’s seat was actually Stephen Sutton.
"Brother," Audrey Sutton cheerfully greeted Stephen Sutton.
Stephen Sutton nodded, stood by the door and looked at Phoebe King seated in the passenger seat, coldly asking, "Not coming out?"
Phoebe King smiled and said, "You should come over and open the door for me, and help me out. Know gentlemanlike manners, Teacher Sutton?"
