Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 473: I Think I’m Pregnant
Phoebe King, lying on the sofa downstairs, was jolted awake by Audrey Sutton’s scream. She was confused at first, then remembered Shane Warner’s instructions from the previous night and thought something had happened to Audrey. She threw off the blanket and rushed upstairs.
"Audrey? Audrey, what’s wrong?"
Hearing Phoebe King calling outside the door, Audrey Sutton was incredibly surprised. She clearly remembered that Phoebe had left with Flora Lane and the others yesterday, hadn’t she?
Feeling puzzled, Audrey hurried out of the bathroom and was astonished to see Phoebe standing in the room. "Sister Phoebe?!"
Phoebe King: "Are you okay? Was that you screaming just now?"
Audrey Sutton: "Sister Phoebe, why are you here? Didn’t you leave last night?"
Phoebe King: "Why were you shouting? Are you alright? If anything happens, Shane will surely come after me."
Audrey Sutton chuckled, "I’m pregnant, Sister Phoebe! Two lines!"
Phoebe King: "Really?! Let me see, am I going to be an aunt?"
Audrey Sutton: "But I’m not sure if the result is accurate. Let’s wait until morning, and you can come with me to the hospital to check it out? I want to make sure it’s true; I’m afraid this thing isn’t reliable."
Phoebe King: "Alright, I’ve always thought one of you might have issues."
Audrey Sutton playfully rolled her eyes at her. "You haven’t told me why you’re here? How did you get in?"
Phoebe King plopped down on the bed, hugging the plush rabbit, Blanc, that Shane Warner bought for Audrey, and played with its ears. "It’s your husband’s doing. He treats you like a child, not trusting you to be home alone. I was having a private time with your big brother when he called and told me to come and keep you company."
Audrey Sutton: "Did I sleepwalk last night? Who let you in?"
Phoebe King: "I asked Mor for the keys. Shane left a spare set at their place and gave me strict instructions to check if you were asleep when I arrived, not to wake you, and to sleep in the guest room downstairs without disturbing you."
Audrey Sutton: "You always listen to him? Running over at night just because he made it complicated for you; maybe he did it on purpose to mess with you?"
Phoebe King gave a knowing laugh, "No, no, you think your Sister Phoebe is so easily ordered around? I only came to fulfill my duty for the sake of the silver note and the safety of the third lady." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Audrey Sutton mumbled, "He really does have too much money for his own good. It’s not like it’s my first time alone when he travels."
Phoebe King, not fully awake, collapsed onto the bed, snuggling into the blankets, "The sofa gave me a sore back. I’m going to catch some more sleep."
Audrey Sutton: "Isn’t there a guest room? Why did you sleep on the sofa? Don’t catch a cold."
Phoebe King burrowed deeper into the blanket, "I saw the guest room bed was unmade, and I was too lazy to fix it, so I took a blanket and slept on the sofa instead. Besides, that cat warmed my feet quite nicely."
"Rubbing cat fur all over you feels good."
Audrey Sutton circled the room excitedly, picking up her phone to tell Shane Warner the news but then hesitated, thinking she might create a false alarm since she hadn’t been checked yet. She set the phone down, seeing it was still early, and after wandering around, returned to bed to sleep.
The two slept until after ten o’clock when Stephen Sutton called Phoebe King to ask about Audrey, waking them up.
Since they were going to the hospital for a pregnancy test, Audrey didn’t bother with breakfast, quickly tidying up and eagerly heading to the hospital with Phoebe King.
Arriving late, they found a line of expectant mothers waiting for check-ups in the hospital corridor.
Seeing other expectant mothers with their husbands, Audrey imagined Shane accompanying her to her check-ups in the future, and the thought alone made her feel happy.
"Number 58, please come in for your check-up."
Hearing her number called, Audrey quickly stood up, handed her bag to Phoebe, and followed the hospital staff into the examination room.
Phoebe stood up as well and craned her neck near the examination room door to familiarize herself with the process so she wouldn’t be completely clueless when she came for her own future checks.
"Someone told me this wasn’t real love~"
The ringtone from Audrey’s bag began to blare. Phoebe fished out the phone and saw the ID: Tough Cookie, with Shane Warner’s picture as the contact photo.
"Pfft—" Seeing the nickname Audrey assigned to Shane, Phoebe couldn’t help but laugh, then answered the call. Before she could even speak, Shane’s voice came through, "Are you up yet?"
Phoebe King: "It’s me."
Shane Warner paused, then quickly asked, "Where’s my wife?"
Remembering Audrey’s request to keep the pregnancy test a secret for now and not let Shane know, Phoebe said, "Your wife is making lunch for me."
Shane Warner’s voice was somewhat displeased: "Do you think you can boss her around?"
Phoebe King: "I could try helping, but I’m worried you wouldn’t trust me with her food."
Shane Warner: "Don’t mess with her, get her on the phone. I want to talk to her."
Phoebe glanced at the examination room, guessing that Audrey had just entered and wouldn’t be out anytime soon, so she said to Shane, "Your wife went to the bathroom; call back in a bit."
Shane Warner: "Wasn’t she making lunch just now?"
Phoebe King: "She was cooking, then suddenly needed the bathroom. Can’t she do that? Call back later, sister is busy now."
After saying this, Phoebe hung up on Shane.
Phoebe dared to act so bold because Shane couldn’t find her now, and besides, his wife was still with her.
When Audrey left the examination room, it was nearly lunchtime, and the hospital’s doctors were about to go off duty. The test results would be ready in the afternoon.
Having skipped breakfast, they were starving, so they went to a nearby restaurant for lunch and coincidentally ran into Evan Sutton.
"Fifth Brother!" Audrey waved cheerfully at Evan, who was in conversation with a male colleague. He whispered something to his colleague and walked over to Audrey, "Audrey, what are you doing here?"
Audrey moved over to make room for him and smiled as she replied, "I came to the hospital for a check-up."
Evan Sutton sat where Audrey had made space and asked worriedly, "A check-up? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No." Audrey’s face lit up with a smile. Knowing her fifth brother was tight-lipped and would not spread news, she leaned toward Evan and whispered, "I think I might be pregnant, but I’m not sure. I came for a check-up, but I was late, so the results won’t be ready until the afternoon."
