Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 474: Old Meat Slice and Little Green Veggie
Evan Sutton paused for a moment upon hearing the news, instinctively glancing at Audrey Sutton’s belly. Originally, he should have felt happy for her, but in that instant, his unconscious reaction was a mix of sentiment and melancholy.
Audrey, although close in age to him and having grown up together, always felt to him like someone he’d watched grow up, treating her always as a little girl.
In his heart, he always felt she was still just a little girl, yet now she was soon to become a mother.
After a brief moment of daze, he smiled reassuringly and said, "Why didn’t you come to me? Let’s go to the hospital after dinner; you can get the results earlier."
Audrey nodded happily, suddenly extending her hand to Evan: "Fifth Brother, don’t you take pulses? Can you check for me?"
Evan chuckled, but didn’t brush her off, placing his fingers on her wrist. After a few seconds, he smiled and said, "It is indeed a joyful pulse, should be certain."
Audrey immediately covered her mouth with delight and giggled, "Really?"
Evan nodded, seeing her sweet smile which felt like a warm breeze enveloping his heart, soft and comforting.
The server brought dishes to the table, Phoebe King then said to the server, "Please bring another set of tableware."
Evan stood up, politely declined saying, "No need, I have friends over there. You eat and wait for me in the hospital lobby after you’re done, I’ll take you to get the results."
Audrey obediently nodded, "Okay, goodbye Fifth Brother."
Evan smiled and got up walking towards the direction of his friend.
After Evan left, Phoebe finally said, "So your Fifth Brother is quite talkative. When I visit your house, he barely speaks. Initially, I thought he was mute."
Audrey couldn’t help but laugh, "That’s how my Fifth Brother has always been! He doesn’t like talking, or rather, doesn’t like to initiate conversations, but will eagerly answer if you ask him something."
Phoebe nodded, "I can tell, he doesn’t seem to have a cold personality, rather feels quite gentle."
Audrey: "Everyone says that, after all, he’s a pediatrician and deals a lot with kids. You haven’t seen him comforting kids; many mothers who bring their kids to see him say they’ve found a second spring, hahaha."
Phoebe crossed her hands, "Please don’t try to sell your Fifth Brother to me, I currently only have room for your elder brother in my heart."
Audrey: "No worries, as someone who’ll become our elder sister-in-law, you should get acquainted with the family siblings too."
Phoebe picked up chopsticks and said while eating, "By the way, your old slice called you."
Audrey paused her movement of picking up food, exchanged a glance with Phoebe, and then Phoebe couldn’t contain her laughter, "Does he know about this nickname?"
Audrey put down her chopsticks, searched her bag for her phone saying, "Of course, he cannot find out."
Phoebe: "Mind sharing how this nickname came to be?"
Audrey: "He calls me little cabbage."
"Pfft—" Phoebe gave Audrey a meaningful look, "You two really have a love-hate relationship, always teasing each other."
Happiness shone in Audrey’s smile as she placed her phone on the table, typed replies to Shane Warner’s messages while explaining to Phoebe, "He’s all talk but soft-hearted, nothing nice ever comes out from his mouth."
Phoebe: "He’s quite like your elder brother. I think their prolonged single status is probably because of this; any girl without perseverance would have been chased away by their words."
Audrey: "In the past, I was very defiant every time he criticized me, but now I’m used to it, my mindset has improved, knowing he simply enjoys annoying me for fun."
Around this time, Shane would probably be dining too. As soon as Audrey sent her message, he immediately replied: Didn’t Phoebe just say you were cooking at home? How come you’re eating outside?
Audrey didn’t expect to reveal this slip, pondered, and replied: "I planned to cook at home, but I’m too lazy."
Shane: Seems like I should hire a nanny to take care of you now.
Audrey: Why can’t you take care of me yourself?
Shane: Sure, when I’m back in a couple of days, I’ll really take good care of you.
Audrey knew his "care" surely came with quotation marks, always with something improper on his mind.
However, Audrey thought his expectations in this regard were likely to be dashed, but if he knew he was going to be a father, he probably wouldn’t care about these things anymore.
Audrey: I have a surprise for you when you come back.
Shane: Unlocked new poses?
Audrey: So naughty, not talking to you anymore, I’m eating.
Evan came later than them but finished his meal earlier and while checking out, he helped pay for theirs too, then waited to return to the hospital with them.
Evan headed to the office to find a colleague on duty, while Audrey and Phoebe waited in the hallway outside.
Beside them was the maternity ward, filled mostly with pregnant women awaiting delivery, the occasional groans of expectant mothers could be heard, adding a slight fear alongside the happiness of pregnancy for Audrey.
"Dr. Porter, the patient in bed eighteen is delivering, please prepare." Seeing a young nurse hurriedly head to the doctor’s office to call someone, they watched as medical staff rushed around, moving a heavily pregnant woman from a bed to the delivery room.
When "Dr. Porter" emerged from the office, Audrey suddenly stiffened.
Dr. Porter didn’t stay long, quickly striding towards the delivery room.
It was barely recognizable that the doctor was female, seemed young, and wore a mask, yet when Audrey saw her eyes, the image of Lan Irving strangely flashed through her mind.
Was she obsessed? Why did everyone lately seem to resemble Lan Irving?
"Audrey, come with me to get the results." Evan called to her, snapping Audrey back to focus, following him.
Although Evan had almost confirmed the joyful pulse during the pulse check, seeing the results before her eyes still brought great joy to Audrey.
The weight on her heart lifted instantly, becoming calm and steady.
"Fifth Brother, don’t tell mom and dad yet, I want to surprise them later."
Evan nodded, "Okay, but take care of yourself, be cautious when going out, avoid bumps, and I’ll send you a list of precautions and dietary recommendations to your phone. If you feel unwell, just ask me anytime."
Audrey: "Okay, thank you, Fifth Brother!"
Evan: "Head home early, it seems like there’s a heavy rain coming soon, do you need me to take you? I still have some time before work."
Audrey: "No need, Fifth Brother, take a chance to rest; Sister Phoebe drove, she can take me home."
Evan: "Alright, be careful on the way."
As they parted ways, Evan still insisted on seeing them to the parking lot. Hearing they didn’t have an umbrella, he went to his office to fetch one for them. He watched their car leave the hospital for a considerable distance before finally turning away.
