Chapter 463: Chapter 463: Perfect Timing

Vanessa Sterling picked up her phone to check the time, 11:36 PM, Miles Sterling’s card game should be wrapping up soon.

Once again, footsteps echoed in the hallway outside; Clarissa Morgan must have returned.

Hearing her enter the room and come back out minutes later, the footsteps this time moved towards Vanessa’s door: "Knock, knock—"

Already straining to hear any noise from Clarissa Morgan, Vanessa felt her heart tighten when she heard her own door being knocked.

"Vanessa, are you asleep?" Clarissa’s voice softly rang from outside the door.

Vanessa pressed her lips together and stood up, walking over to open the door. She looked at Clarissa standing outside and softly asked, "...Aunt Clarissa, is something wrong?"

Clarissa appeared somewhat anxious, grabbing Vanessa’s hand and saying, "Vanessa, your uncle seems a bit unwell. Can you watch over him for a moment while I go downstairs to fetch the family doctor? I’ll be back very soon."

Vanessa was still a bit shocked, but Clarissa’s anxious demeanor made her worry that Quentin Sterling might be seriously ill, prompting Vanessa to ask with concern, "...What’s wrong with Uncle Quentin?"

"I’m not sure, he looks like he’s almost out of breath. You just stay with him, and I’ll go get the doctor right away. Sorry to trouble you, Vanessa." With that, Clarissa spun around quickly, her heels clattering as she ran downstairs.

After Clarissa left, the hallway returned to silence. Vanessa glanced at the slightly ajar door opposite, frowning slightly and feeling hesitant.

She worried about Miles coming back to find her missing from her room, let alone in Quentin’s room; yet she was also deeply concerned about Quentin’s condition.

Given Clarissa’s earlier appearance, the situation seemed far from light-hearted. Vanessa feared something might happen to Quentin, so she clenched her teeth, gently closed her own door, and went to open the slightly ajar door.

The faint, orange light in the room felt somewhat dim, with the faint sound of a man’s weak, pained voice, as if it would only be made in distress.

Stepping quietly to the bedside, Vanessa saw Quentin looking slightly flushed, as if he were drunk, disheveling his shirt himself.

Standing by the bed, she worriedly asked in a low voice, "...Uncle Quentin, are you okay?"

Quentin slowly opened his eyes, his gaze somewhat unfocused, looking in Vanessa’s direction, his lips parted slightly, hoarsely calling out: "Clarissa..."

Vanessa’s back stiffened, startled as she said, "Aunt Clarissa went downstairs to call the doctor, Uncle Quentin, please hang on, the doctor should be here soon..."

With Quentin’s current state, it was unclear if he even heard her words.

Standing by the bedside, unsure how to assist, Vanessa simply prayed for Clarissa’s quick return with the doctor.

Watching Quentin’s distress while pulling at his own clothes with urgent breathing, calling Clarissa’s name.

"...Water."

Vanessa realized and quickly grabbed the water cup on the side of the bed, handing it to Quentin.

Holding the cup, she realized he couldn’t drink while lying down, so she prepared to set it down and help him sit up.

But before Vanessa could reach out, Quentin suddenly grabbed her wrist, pulling it forcefully toward him, then rolling over to pin her beneath him, his face leaning closer, murmuring: "Clarissa... Clarissa, I’m so hot."

Quentin’s hot, heavy breath fell on Vanessa’s face, her eyes widened, and her first instinct was to escape.

Yet Quentin’s six-foot figure and strong physique were immovable for her: "Uncle!"

His hands felt like a blazing flame, such intensity was palpable through her jeans.

Quentin whispered Clarissa’s name, roughly kissing her neck.

Terrified, Vanessa turned her head away as much as possible, pushing him with all her strength, but he only held her tighter...

Clarissa slowly descended the stairs, observing the trickle of people exiting the game room. The card game seemed to be winding down, and upstairs, the duo above should also be reaching a climax, everything perfectly timed...

She reached the kitchen, calling out to a busy maid, "Auntie, the Second Master is a bit drunk, can you brew some strong tea to bring him? I’m going to have some midnight snacks."

"Sure, right away. There’s some porridge in the kitchen, you might want to try it."

Clarissa smiled and nodded, "Okay, you go ahead."

Others planning to stay the night had accommodations mainly upstairs. As the game room cleared, people began chatting and gradually went upstairs to wash up.

A maid carried tea upstairs, while Clarissa sat by the dining table, sipping hot porridge, waiting for the drama to unfold shortly... 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Miles casually found a lighter on the living room table, lighting a cigarette as he leisurely made his way upstairs. He intended to call Vanessa back.

"Bang—" The sound of a cup shattering on the floor drew attention from others in the corridor.

Everyone watched as the panic-stricken maid shattered the cup, leaving hot tea and brown leaves everywhere.

"How could you be so careless? Clean it up immediately!" scolded the household’s matriarch, Quentin’s mother.

The maid stood, trembling at the door, looking at the matriarch and then at the room, unsure how to begin: "...Madam."

The matriarch’s glare intensified: "What’s the matter?"

Noticing the maid’s unusual expression, the matriarch quickened her steps toward Quentin’s room. Upon seeing the scene inside, she was so angered she nearly lost her breath, almost fainting from fury.

The quick-witted maid supported her, exclaiming: "Madam!"

The surrounding onlookers, originally engrossed, quickly crowded over. On seeing the scene within, everyone was startled and speechless; countless comments stuck at the tip of their tongues, yet no one dared to say anything.

In the room, Vanessa had managed to escape Quentin’s grasp.

When she heard the cup shatter, panic struck her. She quickly grabbed the cup on the bedside table and dumped its contents on Quentin’s head, finally getting free and somewhat sobering up Quentin.

However, with their clothes disheveled and Vanessa not yet having left Quentin’s bed,

the scene was inexplainable to any observer.
