Chapter 442: Chapter 442: Getting Sweeter and Sweeter

Audrey Sutton smiled at him, jogging over and slipping under his umbrella, asking, "Why did you come so early?"

Shane Warner switched the umbrella to his other hand, freeing up the one to hold her, and softly said, "I saw it was raining, so I came earlier to pick you up. Plus, didn’t your mom say we should go back for dinner?"

Audrey: "I thought you didn’t look at the group chat? I never see you talking in there."

Shane: "How could I not look when you’re in it?"

Hearing this, Audrey smiled and looked at him, saying, "So when I go back home for summer vacation, do you sneak peeks at the group chat every day?"

Shane didn’t bother to hide it and said to her, "I look at those social media posts you make several times a day. Every time I look, I feel like you don’t need me, that you’re very happy without me by your side."

Audrey rolled her eyes at him and said, "You men think so differently from women. I don’t usually post that frequently, so why did I suddenly post so much? It’s just to create a presence so you notice me."

Shane: "But everything you post is so happy."

Audrey pouted and said, "I did that on purpose. Actually, I was feeling terrible, but I was sulking, you know? I couldn’t just complain like a grumpy old lady every day. In the end, it’s all your fault for ignoring me."

Shane chuckled, opened the car door for her to sit in the passenger seat, and said lightly but seriously, "It won’t happen again."

Audrey "hmph"ed: "There better not be a next time, or I won’t forgive you."

Shane closed the car door, walked around the car, and put away the umbrella as he got into the driver’s seat, ready to start the car. Audrey suddenly said, "Hey, wait, mom asked me to bring Sister Phoebe along. She’s taking my brother’s class and should be coming down soon."

Saying this, Audrey craned her neck to look around through the car window.

Shane pointed his chin forward and said, "I don’t think we need to give her a ride."

Audrey looked in the direction Shane pointed and saw Phoebe King holding an umbrella, quickly following Stephen Sutton, who didn’t have one.

Stephen seemed like he didn’t want to interact with Phoebe, but his pace clearly waited for her.

Seeing this, Audrey seemed relieved and smiled contentedly at Shane, saying, "Then let’s go."

Not far behind, under a big black umbrella, Quentin Sterling shielded Clarissa Morgan as they walked towards a parked car on the side of the road, while Clarissa’s gaze fell on the car Shane had just driven away.

Although Quentin’s actions were as considerate as Shane’s earlier care for Audrey, she felt that as long as the person beside her wasn’t Shane, any kind consideration didn’t warm her heart at all.

Inside the car, Audrey switched through several songs before she was satisfied, swaying slightly to the rhythm and asking Shane, "You never seem to post on social media, why?"

Shane glanced at her sideways, then looked back at the road, smiling as he said, "Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?"

Audrey: "Both, tell me both."

Shane: "I only want to share my stuff with you. If I can share it in person, why post it online?"

Listening to him, the smile in Audrey’s eyes deepened, saying, "I think you’ve been eating too many sweets recently; your mouth has gotten sweeter."

Before she could enjoy her little triumph, Shane poured cold water on it: "That was a lie, the truth is... I just don’t have the habit."

Audrey kept smiling and stubbornly corrected him, "Both are true."

Shane laughed indulgently and said, "It’s no fun teasing you anymore. You used to get all puffed up when I teased you."

Audrey: "Why do you insist on making me angry?"

He laughed and said, "It’s fun."

Audrey: "Childish."

Shane just smiled without saying anything, surprised to be called childish by a young girl.

Audrey lowered her head to check her phone, finding out what was happening with Phoebe. She learned that she had successfully caught a ride in Stephen’s car and was also heading towards the Suttons’ house.

A thought popped into her head, and she said to Shane, "Do you think if Sister Phoebe marries my brother, you’d have to call her sister-in-law along with me?"

Shane corrected her, "Actually, she would call you sister-in-law."

Audrey: "We’d call each other sisters-in-law."

After saying this, she seemed to hit her strange laugh point, amusing herself silly and laughing foolishly.

After the foolish laughter, she said again after a while, "By the way, have you and my second brother been talking in private? Has he found no leads recently, or did you tell him not to tell me anything? He hasn’t been coming to me much."

Shane drove the car into the Suttons’ courtyard, speaking as he backed into a parking space, "Both. I did tell him not to let you get involved in this, and he really hasn’t found any new leads lately."

"Sigh, after all, so much time has passed, and the crime scene has completely changed. Some of the people who knew about it back then have also disappeared. It might not be easy to investigate."

"I’ll find a way. You just focus on your studies and don’t worry about this."

After parking the car and going inside, they hadn’t even warmed up the sofa when the rain outside started pouring heavily.

Hazel Yates came out from the kitchen with a plate of fruit, asking Audrey, "Why didn’t Phoebe come with you?"

Audrey picked up a small fork, speared a piece of pineapple, and put it in her mouth, smiling as she said, "She’s behind us, came with my brother."

Hazel’s tone was surprised and delighted, "They came together? Are they a couple now?"

Audrey: "Mom, don’t you know your own son? Do you think my brother can resist a girl’s intense pursuit? He may seem calm on the surface, but inside, he’s already been spun dizzy by Sister Phoebe’s whirlwind."

As she spoke, there was movement by the door, and Phoebe King and Stephen Sutton entered one after the other.

"Hello, Auntie. Hello, Uncle." Phoebe stood by the door, smiling shyly and politely.

Although it wasn’t her first time at the Suttons’ house, it had been quite a while since she’d last visited, and her feelings on this occasion were completely different. It felt like meeting the parents with a boyfriend, making her a bit nervous.

Hazel hurried to greet her, "No need to be so polite, quickly come in. You didn’t get caught in the rain, did you? Would you like Audrey to take you upstairs to change clothes?"

Phoebe quickly waved her hands, "No, no, I didn’t get wet."

Hazel warmly welcomed Phoebe inside, ignoring her eldest son completely, focusing all her attention on Phoebe.

Stephen changed his shoes and quietly entered the living room, finding an empty seat beside Arthur Sutton.

He originally wanted to sit next to the not-so-talkative third brother to lower his presence, but unexpectedly Arthur glanced at Phoebe and then seriously asked Stephen, "Sister-in-law?"
