Chapter 427: Chapter 427: Be a Bit More Considerate

Helen Holloway glanced around the living room, and although Audrey Sutton had tidied up on purpose earlier, she was still a bit nervous, worried that Helen Holloway might find something unsatisfactory.

After circling around, Helen Holloway said, "Shane, I suggest having Mrs. Edison come over to take care of you both."

Audrey Sutton felt a jolt upon hearing this.

Could it be that Helen Holloway thinks she hasn’t taken good care of Shane Warner, and is worried, thus wanting the family aunt to come over and look after them?

Shane Warner said, "The two of us manage just fine; we can take care of each other."

Audrey Sutton pretended to be focused on washing vegetables, but she was keenly listening to what Helen Holloway was saying: "Mom just thinks, Audrey is indeed sensible, but before marrying you, she was the apple of her family’s eye, surely hasn’t done these tasks at home, can’t let her suffer."

Audrey Sutton felt relieved upon hearing Helen Holloway’s words and quickly added, "Mom, I’m not suffering, I usually just cook a little, nothing much beyond that."

Shane Warner remarked bluntly, "And who do you think takes care of whom usually?"

Helen Holloway chuckled, "Mom thinks you are usually busy with work, and Audrey is still studying, worried that it might be hard on you."

Audrey Sutton: "Mom, I’m not busy, in my fourth year, and there aren’t many classes, I can take good care of Shane, no need to trouble Mrs. Edison to come over."

Helen Holloway corrected Audrey Sutton, saying: "Mom isn’t worried about Shane, Mom is worried that Shane won’t take care of you well, and I heard you plan to have a child, you can’t have any oversight by then, your health must be good for the child’s health to be good."

Shane Warner: "Mom, come over here and sit, you’ve been chatting with her, if she doesn’t finish dinner in time, it might as well be tomorrow’s breakfast."

Helen Holloway headed to the sofa while chiding Shane Warner: "You should consider others more, you’re nearing thirty, be a bit more sensible."

Listening to Helen Holloway scolding Shane Warner, Audrey Sutton suppressed a grin, feeling that Helen Holloway is quite like her own mother, always worried about someone else’s child, afraid they might suffer.

Wallace Warner, who hadn’t said much, finally spoke, asking Shane Warner: "I heard you had surgery and were hospitalized?"

Shane Warner replied lightly, "Just a small surgery, it’s all fine now."

Helen Holloway: "Such a big thing and you didn’t tell us, if it weren’t for your dad going to visit you at the company and your friend telling him, we both wouldn’t know about it."

Shane Warner downplayed it, saying, "It wasn’t a big deal, no need to alarm you."

Helen Holloway: "What do you mean it’s not a big deal? It’s surgery!"

Wallace Warner paused and suddenly asked, "I heard you went to investigate your brother’s case again recently?"

Shane Warner nodded, "Yes, some clues just surfaced lately, Audrey’s second brother went to investigate."

Wallace Warner took a deep breath, lifting his teacup for a drink, saying, "Shane, it’s been years, you still haven’t let it go, huh."

Shane Warner: "Dad, do you truly believe that what happened back then was just an accident?"

Helen Holloway: "How could it be an accident? Surely it was Vincent Warner’s doing! Mom supports your investigation, back then the old man didn’t let us dig deeper, now he’s gone, Sean’s sacrifice shouldn’t be in vain, we owe him an explanation, or I won’t be at peace even in my grave."

Wallace Warner paused, "I think there’s no need to stir things up, let bygones be bygones, now the old man is gone, The Warner’s estate has settled, it’s up to you two to hold it together, falling out with each other wouldn’t be good for anyone."

Listening to Wallace Warner’s words, Helen Holloway said, "If we really can bring Vincent Warner, the murderer, to justice, then his shares will definitely end up with Shane, which originally belonged to us, we can’t just let it go."

Wallace Warner seemed dissatisfied with Helen Holloway’s statement, frowning as he reprimanded her: "What do you know about family matters? Before the old man passed, he instructed Shane to get along well with his brother, whether the investigation reveals anything or not, if word gets out about internal strife, it won’t benefit us or Vincent."

Helen Holloway muttered something softly, obviously still upset.

Wallace Warner: "Personally, I can’t forgive Vincent either, but Shane, we must consider the bigger picture, from The Warner’s perspective, you’re allies, you should present a united front, instead of dwelling on past issues with suspicion and resentment."

Shane Warner remained silent, while Audrey Sutton listened pensively to their conversation.

She thought Wallace Warner made some sense, but from what she currently knows, Vincent might not necessarily be the culprit, if the truth is out, it could clear Vincent’s name, which might improve Shane and Vincent’s relationship, fulfilling Wallace Warner’s wish for them to "stand united" and "present a united front."

In her heart, she hoped Shane would continue to investigate.

But if he was persuaded by Wallace Warner, she would respect his decision.

Shane Warner was silent for a few seconds, seeming to weigh the pros and cons, before telling Wallace Warner, "Dad, I’ll take care of this, don’t worry, so much time has passed, I can look at it calmly, I just want to uncover the truth and give my brother an explanation."

Audrey Sutton smiled with relief at Shane Warner’s response.

In the past, just mentioning his brother’s issue seemed to make him lose reason.

Now he appears to be considering her perspective, beginning to ease his bias against Vincent, at least willing to believe there might be another possibility.

Wallace Warner sighed, "I’ve said all that needs to be said, I’m too old to meddle in young people’s matters, but I trust you’ll handle these things well."

After dinner, Helen Holloway and Wallace Warner didn’t stay long; Helen merely instructed Audrey Sutton on how to stew and consume the supplements she brought, and reminded Shane Warner a couple of times, then the two elders left.

Audrey Sutton watched the car carrying the two elders depart, feeling relieved.

Turning to look at Shane Warner beside her, she asked with a smile, "So, how did I do? Was I alright?"

Shane Warner looked down at her with a cold huff, "What’s it matter how you behave with them? You need to prove yourself to me; only when I say you’re good, you’re truly good."

Audrey Sutton pouted, following his steps into the house, arguing defiantly, "Am I not good usually? I’m quite virtuous, okay? It’s just you that can’t give a compliment, always finding fault with me."
