Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 171: Let Her Fend for Herself
Under Ethan Sterling’s urging, Seraphina Redgrave reluctantly climbed onto his back. She was so light that Ethan effortlessly stood up straight and walked steadily forward.
She had never seen the scenery from this height before; the evening wind was a bit cold, and the street was dimly lit.
The road in the distance was completely unclear, and no one knew what awaited them on the path ahead.
His back was incredibly solid, as if it could shield her from the wind and rain.
Since childhood, she had always relied on herself to solve all difficulties. Growing up, it was the first time someone told her that she could trust him and let him handle her problems.
Although she wouldn’t stop trying because of those words, she couldn’t help but be moved by them.
Seraphina wrapped her arms around Ethan’s shoulders, watching his hair sway with his movements, occasionally brushing against the tip of her nose.
She couldn’t resist reaching out to touch it.
"What are you touching?" Ethan spoke with disdain while continuing to walk, not even turning his head: "Are a man’s ears something you can touch freely?"
"Oh."
Seraphina withdrew her hand.
With the touch gone from the root of his hair, Ethan immediately halted his steps: "Don’t stop!"
Ethan was really...
Seraphina sighed helplessly as she reached out, feeling like she was petting some animal, almost bursting into laughter.
She initially thought Ethan was acting on a whim, but he didn’t let her down once she was on his back.
It was only after Seraphina fell asleep on Ethan’s back, her fingers unable to hold onto his hair, that Ethan finally ceased his steps.
The two of them walked in the pitch-black night.
The next day, at the Sterling Corporation’s CEO office.
Nathan Ayers knocked and entered after receiving permission, only to see Ethan lounging comfortably in the boss chair, reading a travel magazine.
"Is Young Master Sterling planning a trip?"
Nathan asked curiously.
Hearing this, Ethan, lying in the boss chair, laughed and replied, "Yes, in thirty days, Seraphina will be going on vacation with me."
In his view, The Defiance Society was unlikely to make an impact.
So, he could already start considering where he’d like to go.
After hearing this, Nathan hesitated for a moment before asking, "Young Master Sterling, are you really planning to let Miss join The Defiance Society?"
Previously, Nathan didn’t dare to question Ethan’s decisions, but now, with Seraphina beside Ethan, he dared to ask a few things.
Sure enough, Ethan wasn’t angry; he simply turned a page of his magazine: "If I don’t let her try, how will she know she can’t do it? These thirty days, she’ll definitely be frustrated to tears every day."
Perhaps she won’t even last thirty days before giving up.
Nathan nodded, "Indeed, just dealing with the school alone, the children of the Elite Society will make things hard for her."
If the school doesn’t approve, forming The Defiance Society itself would be troublesome, let alone gaining fame.
"So pitiful?"
Ethan chuckled happily, but then his eyes turned dark: "Have people watch over her during this time."
The bet between them was fine, but if anyone sought to harm Seraphina, that was another matter.
"Understood, Young Master Sterling. Do you need any help with the initial application process for The Defiance Society?"
Nathan asked.
"If it’s not related to life safety, no need to help."
He just wanted Seraphina to realize she couldn’t save those in the restricted zone.
"Understood, Young Master Sterling, I’ll make arrangements."
Nathan lowered his head and turned to leave.
Ethan continued reading his magazine, suddenly closing it with a slight seriousness. What if Seraphina cried and asked him for help?
He couldn’t just soften his heart, help her, and lose the bet, could he?
But if Seraphina really cried pitifully, how could he not help her?
Forget it, he’ll deal with it when the time comes.
Meanwhile, Ethan speculated that the teary-eyed Seraphina was sitting on a bench in the school garden.
She reclined against the bench, observing the seven individuals who passed her test in front of her.
There was a variety of expressions; some didn’t even glance at Seraphina, busy dismantling their circuit boards, while others looked at her as if they were ardent fans attending their idol’s concert.
Ronan Yates stood on the side, looking worried as he flipped through his folder, "Seraphina, it’s too few people, just half of what the Elite Society has."
"It doesn’t matter how many; what matters is their skill."
Seraphina spoke without much expression, turning to Ronan.
Seeing this, Ronan quickly handed a dossier to each of the seven students, "These are the competitions you will participate in later. The registration fees come from the club’s funds, and if you win any prizes, you can keep them."
Everyone received the information forms with varied reactions.
A boy who appeared very honest spoke up, looking at Seraphina with admiration, "President..."
"President or not, just call her Seraphina." Ronan adeptly initiated socializing.
"Seraphina? Does the president’s name have ’Seraphina’ in it?"
The boy was bewildered; wasn’t the president named Sylvia Shaw?
"Just call her as I told you, don’t worry about it."
Ronan patted the boy on the shoulder, and he silly nodded.
"Alright, alright." The boy looked at the documents in his hand, "Seraphina, these big competitions have requirements; individual entries aren’t allowed. If The Defiance Society doesn’t get school approval, we still can’t participate."
His tone was weak, and his words lacked strength; the girl standing next to him was clearly not as easygoing, speaking coldly, "Are you messing around with all this without knowing even the basic school rules?"
After saying this, almost everyone looked at Seraphina.
Ronan stood behind her, like her lackey, showing displeasure at the girl, "Beatrice Fawcett, mind your tone with Seraphina!"
"Why wouldn’t I say it?" Beatrice sneered, "We can’t even get through the competition doors; it’ll be us who are embarrassed."
Ronan was about to retort but was stopped by Seraphina’s cold laugh. She looked up at them, "Your presence here means you’ve reached a dead end. If you could reach your desired positions with your abilities alone, you wouldn’t join The Defiance Society."
Participating in some major competitions requires school qualification, and the school had given all these to the Elite Society.
These seven students in front of her were highly intelligent, but their backgrounds were their downfall, allowing them to be trampled by those few in the Elite Society.
Her speech hit the softest spot in their hearts, even Beatrice’s expression turned sour, her fists clenched tightly.
"Those competitions are still far off. They’ll only begin after the student council meeting, so don’t worry, Seraphina has a plan."
Ronan spoke proudly.
The student council meeting was held weekly, usually involving the principal, college deans, and student representatives discussing student opinions.
The boy standing on the far right despondently said, "I’ve asked around; Caleb Crawford from the Elite Society spoke to the principal, and the principal absolutely won’t agree to the formation of The Defiance Society."
