Mr. Fairchild's Rose: She is Wild and Proud-Chapter 261 - 197: You Really Are a Good Actor
The two photographers thought to themselves: I never expected a young girl could break a tree with just one axe swing...
That’s some serious strength.
Julian Fairchild chuckled and set aside the tool he was holding; he had originally planned to help her, but now it seems unnecessary.
Soon, Maeve Lane and the show’s staff lifted the tree onto the truck together.
It was almost noon, and they still had to chop wood upon returning to save time, so Maeve and Julian rode back together.
When they reached the bamboo house, they saw a scene of chaos.
Kylie Kendrick was slaughtering chickens, leaving chicken blood all over the courtyard, while Sean Shaw and Lucy Sterling were cleaning the floor with mops.
The latter weren’t sure where she had gone.
Maeve opened the door, saying, "We’re back."
Lucy, frowning while mopping the floor, looked up, "Maeve, why don’t you go to the backyard to prepare the firewood? It’s a bit inconvenient here at the moment."
"Sure." Maeve glanced at the messy scene and said to the staff, "Drive the truck to the back entrance."
"Got it, Maeve."
Julian originally wanted to follow Maeve to chop wood, but a glare from the latter sent him back.
She tugged on his sleeve and whispered, "If you come over again, even a fool can see it. Enough already, stop giving yourself away."
Julian was easygoing and nonchalantly ruffled Maeve’s hair, smiling lazily, "Alright, work hard."
Indeed, he feared nothing.
Others were scared of their relationships being exposed and their careers being ruined.
Julian was worried others wouldn’t notice.
Maeve remembered Julian repeatedly asked last month— "When are you planning to retire from the industry?"
She: "..."
She had just entered not long ago.
As it turned out, this man was eager for her to fail and retire with him.
In the backyard, the staff unloaded the tree.
But there’s clearly too much for one person to handle alone. Thankfully, it’s not necessary to finish it all at once; the reality show’s filming lasts about a month, so it’s enough to do a portion each day.
The staff would also help.
Maeve worked quickly, finishing the firewood in less than half an hour.
It was then that Kylie, who had been absent, appeared.
Her eyes were red, looking as if she had just cried; she held a basin with unclean chicken and duck meat.
Maeve sat in the chair by the fence, pretending to nap, and upon seeing the photographer leave, she stormed over, "wham," and threw the basin to the ground.
This was no longer part of the filming area, so the cameras couldn’t capture it.
Kylie had waited a long time for this chance; she glared at Maeve’s face, saying, "I’ve been doing work for you for so long, now it’s your turn!"
Maeve didn’t even open her eyes, "Could you speak human language?"
Not a word made sense. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Kylie felt both wronged and angry, "I told you to handle these things, and you wouldn’t go. Isn’t it me who’s been working for you now?"
"So dirty, greasy as hell; it’s making me want to puke." Kylie felt a wave in her stomach, "Hurry up and clean this stuff up for me, or you’ll be in trouble!"
Maeve was amazed by her unreasonable actions, "When did I agree to take on this work?"
"If you couldn’t handle this work, you shouldn’t have accepted this reality show. Now, who are you acting spoiled for?"
Maeve slowly opened her eyes, lifting her eyelids coolly, "I’m not your mom, no need to spoil you."
Kylie, eyes red, "Are you going to do it or not?"
Maeve stood up, looked her in the eye, and uttered one word: "No."
After speaking, Maeve was ready to turn and leave.
Kylie panicked; she didn’t want to do these tasks anymore. Suddenly, a scheme occurred to her — if she said Maeve knocked over her stuff, then it wouldn’t be unreasonable for Maeve to do work for her.
She immediately picked up the basin on the ground and attempted to throw it at Maeve.
Maeve heard the noise and knew what she intended; she impatiently turned her body aside, raising her voice, "Kylie, why are you dumping the meat on the ground?"
Kylie was taken aback, "You’re actually calling someone over? Do you know who I am?"
"I don’t know, nor am I interested."
"What’s going on?" Lucy came over first, rubbing her hands on her apron, "What’s happening here?"
No matter how good-tempered she was, it wasn’t easy to smile now; she had asked Kylie to slaughter a chicken, and she made a mess of the house, so Lucy slaughtered it herself, asking Kylie to de-feather and clean it.
Now, the ingredients were entirely on the ground.
If this continues, today’s meal won’t happen.
This was just the first task, and such a simple task repeatedly posed problems.
Lucy looked definitely unimpressed, "Maeve, tell me what happened?"
Simultaneously, Sean and Julian appeared, Julian immediately looking at Maeve, squinting slightly at the scene.
"What did she do?"
Kylie felt increasingly wronged; Julian had just commended her for her hard work, yet now he didn’t give her a glance. It clearly had to do with her, Kylie, yet why ask Maeve!
Maeve repeated Kylie’s words, "She just thinks the meat is too greasy and doesn’t want to handle it; she even asked me for help."
"Then you saw it; I refused, and that’s why she’s upset."
Kylie thought Maeve would find some other reason and didn’t expect her to lay it out directly.
Her face burned, "I didn’t..."
"Alright, everyone stop recording." Lucy gestured to the crew.
This was already considered an airing accident; for sure, there would be no such segment in the main episode.
"Whether Maeve’s words are true or not, Kylie, you’ve already caused a lot of trouble today."
"If you want to continue recording, pick it up, clean it, and get it done immediately, or I’ll tell the crew this show isn’t suitable for you." Lucy’s frustration still carried a lot of pressure.
Kylie wasn’t convinced and wanted to retort.
But Julian spoke, coldly, "Apologize, then leave."
His words quickly deflated Kylie; she rolled her eyes and explained, "Sorry, Fairchild, I was just tired and worried I couldn’t do a good job, so I asked Maeve for help."
"I didn’t expect her to react so intensely; I was scared and my hand trembled, causing me to slip..."
Her pitiful appearance belied her words.
Julian didn’t believe her, frowning handsomely and repeating, "Apologize to her."
Kylie bit her lip.
She had several female lead dramas on hand, a film about to shoot, why should she apologize to Maeve!
Lucy saw Julian was truly impatient now and urged Kylie again, "Kylie, are you still trying to argue? Even if Maeve won’t help you, it’s reasonable; helping you is a favor, not helping is normal, regardless, you caused everyone’s meal delay today. Shouldn’t you apologize?"
Sean said nothing but also gave her a stern look.
The director’s team was eating, saw them gathered there, and sent a staff member to check.
"What’s up? Why is this stuff on the ground?"
No one spoke.
Kylie really couldn’t withstand the probing glances around, saying begrudgingly, "It’s nothing, I accidentally slipped."
The staff nodded, returning to eat, "Then call the photographer over; let’s resume recording."
Lucy nodded.
Maeve glanced at Kylie, then looked up to meet Julian’s gaze.
