Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride-Chapter 652: Sorry, I’ve never had a boyfriend before.
Mia Foster planned to take a two-day break before going back to work at her own company. It was a rare occasion for her to stay at home and embrace being a homebody. Bored, she started to venture into the kitchen from the afternoon, planning to personally prepare dinner for her parents.
With her long hair casually tied back, the slightly nearsighted Mia put on her reading glasses and donned an apron, bustling about in front of the kitchen counter. The sharp businesswoman, when entering the kitchen, also transformed into a qualified housewife.
The phone tucked into her apron began to ring. She freed a hand to grab it and, without looking at the caller ID, pressed it to her ear and continued to sort vegetables, using her shoulder to secure the phone. "Hello, who is this?"
"Don’t you check the number before answering the phone?" Felix Shaw sounded clearly displeased, not hearing the warm and surprised greeting he had expected.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t recognize your voice. Could you please tell me who this is?"
Mia Foster continued to pick through vegetables while politely speaking on the phone. On the other end, Felix helplessly rubbed his forehead, "I’m Felix Shaw, we just had dinner together yesterday evening." He worried that if he didn’t elaborate, Mia wouldn’t remember him. His gaze had clearly admired her the night before, but it seemed she had forgotten all about him as soon as she turned away. This woman was indeed insincere.
"Oh, Felix, hello. Is there something you need?" Not just because he was too polite, but Mia treated everyone with this level of civility. Felix suddenly felt that, in Mia’s heart, he was just an ordinary client.
Suppressing the slight discomfort in his heart, Felix asked, "Have you always talked to your boyfriends like this on the phone?"
"Sorry, I’ve never had a boyfriend," Mia replied with a laugh, stopping her kitchen work and taking the phone in her hand, "So I don’t really understand how relationships work. But don’t worry, when I have time I’ll look up some information online..." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
At the company, Felix had already put on his overcoat, ready to leave work. Listening to Mia talk like this, he pulled the phone slightly away from his ear, rubbing his temple with one hand. This woman, he didn’t know whether to think of her as too serious or just foolish. Looking up advice online about relationships, really, he had never heard of such a thing!
But on second thought, never having had a boyfriend, she must still be a virgin, Felix thought. The pride of being the one to break that barrier excited him. Yet, on reflection, he decided to let it be. He had only intended to find a shield anyway; better not to stir up trouble. Even though he was no innocent man, he now already had Elizabeth White, and besides, it was not in his nature to get involved with two women at the same time.
Still pressing on his temple, he brought the phone back to his ear, not wanting to hear Mia’s earnest clarifications any longer. Felix cut straight to the point, "Are you free tonight? Let’s go out for dinner together. Tell me your address; I’ll pick you up after work."
Almost as if possessed, he found himself actively asking Mia Foster out.
In normal dating rituals, it’s common for a man to pick up a woman. However, Mia said, "No trouble, you can just give me the address, and I’ll get there myself."
"That’s fine."
Sparing him the bother suited him just fine.
After ending the call with Felix, Mia finished chopping the ingredients and arranged them on plates before taking off her apron and leaving the kitchen. Back in her room, she took a quick shower to avoid carrying the smell of seasonings to the date.
After blow-drying her hair, applying light makeup, and changing her clothes, she dabbed a bit of perfume on her wrists. Men should like the scent of a woman, she thought.
Mia drove to the address given by Felix.
To her surprise, upon arriving, she saw Felix waiting at the entrance of the restaurant, clad in a coffee-colored overcoat with a subtly patterned suit underneath.
A cigarette was tucked between his fingers, drawn to his lips for a drag, and the sight of him elegantly exhaling smoke was enough to drive Mia wild.
