Chapter 80 - 80: Acting Pitiful Won’t Work

Realizing that acting pitiful wouldn't work, Daniel quickly changed his approach. He used Railer as an excuse.

Even though Railer hadn't grown up with her, a mother and child were always connected.

Daniel was sure that no matter how cold Chantelle was toward him, she wouldn't ignore her son.

As expected, the moment he mentioned Railer, the determination in Chantelle's eyes faded.

Kane might be a little troublemaker, but he was still just a child. If he saw Daniel's bloody wound, it could traumatize him.

As a mother, Chantelle couldn't let that happen.

"Fine, come in," she sighed. "But you have to rest properly and not do anything weird!"

After a moment, Chantelle reluctantly stepped aside, but not without a serious warning.

"A guest must follow the host's rules. So, you better behave," she said, brows furrowed.

"A guest should always listen to the host! I'll follow your every word, Ms. Chantelle!" Daniel declared before dashing inside like a leopard. It was as if he was scared she would change her mind if he hesitated even a second.

Ashton, still standing outside, was left in shock. He blinked, struggling to process what just happened.

"Sir... what about us?" he finally asked, unsure of what to do.

If he stayed, he'd most likely be treated as an unwanted third wheel and thrown out by Daniel. But if he left without orders, it might be considered abandoning his duty. Torn between the two, he cautiously asked for instructions.

"Ashton, do you want to go work in the fields in Alewell?" Daniel shot him a glare filled with disgust and his expression was silently sending him a threat, as if saying—Get lost, or you'll regret it!

Since Daniel had spoken, Ashton had no choice but to leave. He and the bodyguards disappeared so fast that even Chantelle was stunned.

Barely three minutes after lying down, Daniel couldn't hold back anymore. "Ms. Chantelle, my wound is burning. It might be infected. Why don't you check it?" he called out, acting as if he were truly suffering.

Infected, my ass! I didn't hear anything!

Chantelle ignored him completely. She tucked herself into a soft chair in the attic, putting as much distance between them as possible.

Meanwhile, at the Wilson residence, Ashton was busy rummaging through Daniel's closet, hurriedly packing his clothes.

Knowing Daniel's personality, if he didn't send the clothes over quickly and leave just as fast, he might end up spending the rest of his life working in Alewell's empty fields. By then, all he'd have left was staring at the moon and crying over his lost future!

"Uncle Ashton, are you packing Daddy's clothes? Is he going on a business trip?"

Kane hadn't seen Daniel since returning from Philip's place. He wanted to sneak back to be with his dear Mommy but was afraid of getting caught.

So, he stayed at the Wilson residence, keeping an eye on the situation.

When he saw Ashton packing, he quickly asked about it.

"Oh, it's nothing. Mr. Wilson has some matters to discuss with Ms. Chantelle, so he's staying there for a few days," Ashton replied, trying to sound casual.

He couldn't possibly tell a five-year-old that his father was relentlessly chasing a woman and trying to make her his stepmother. That would ruin Daniel's image as a responsible parent.

"Ms. Chantelle? You mean the beautiful Auntie Chantelle?"

The moment Kane heard his Daddy was with his Mommy, he became anxious and demanded more details.

"Yes, it's her." Ashton grabbed the packed luggage and prepared to head downstairs.

Hearing Ashton's words, Kane was completely stunned!

Daddy is so shameless! How could he go to Mommy's place and bother her? What if he bullies her?

No! I have to save Mommy!

He silently cursed Daniel in his heart a hundred times while quickly chasing after Ashton.

"Uncle Ashton, is Daddy really staying there for a few days? I'll miss him so much!" Kane whined as his big eyes were filled with tears. "Why don't you take me too? I promise to be good and will not cause trouble!"

He ran over and hugged Ashton's leg, looking pitiful as he pleaded.

Ashton hesitated. Seeing Kane cry made his heart ache. He couldn't bring himself to refuse.

Gritting his teeth, he sighed and picked Kane up before heading downstairs.

Soon, they drove toward Western Hill Villa quickly.

Meanwhile, Chantelle sighed helplessly as she watched Daniel lounging on her bed, acting like he owned the place. He was clearly here just to make her life difficult.

With no other choice, she called Thea. "My dear, our plan is canceled. But don't worry, I'll treat you to a feast next time!"

Daniel knew Thea had been her best friend five years ago.

Right now, Chantelle couldn't risk letting her visit. If Thea showed up, everything she had worked for would be ruined.

Daniel would surely turn against her, and at that point, he'd probably want to tear her apart.

"You're so mean, Chantie! You let go of my dove? If you don't tell me why, I won't talk to you for a week—no, a whole month!"

Thea immediately sensed something was wrong. Chantelle wouldn't just release the bird without a reason.

Determined to find out, she was ready to throw a fit.

"It's not like I wanted to! That difficult man is in my house and won't leave. I had no choice!"

Chantelle already had a headache and could only reply bitterly, gritting her teeth at Thea's dramatic threats.

"What?! Daniel is at your place? Didn't he already say he had no feelings for you? You're not actually thinking about going back to him, are you?"

Thea was busy sewing a wedding dress when she heard Chantelle's words. Shocked, she almost pricked herself with the needle.

Her almond eyes lit up with curiosity. The need for gossip was written all over her face.

Just as she was about to dig deeper, Chantelle cut her off.

"I'm hanging up."

Speechless, she ended the call before Thea could ask another word.

Going back to him?

Who knows if he's the one trying to get back with me?

Daniel lay on the bed with his eyes closed, pretending to be asleep. He listened carefully to every move Chantelle made.

He felt a surge of joy knowing she had even brushed Thea off because of him.

"I don't feel too good, Ms. Chantelle," he murmured. "I think my injury might have gotten worse."
