Chapter 59 - 59: A New High-Tech Phone

Later, when Chantelle returned to Western Hill Villa, she cleaned up and went to the ward to visit Railer.

As Chantelle watched Kate's actions through the live surveillance, she immediately thought of Rai.

Rai's vocal cords were fine, and she had heard him speak before. But when he was awake, he refused to talk.

This made Chantelle furious.

Railer probably felt there was no point in speaking if no one believed him. How had this child endured it for all these years?

Thinking of this, Chantelle's heart ached.

By chance, Railer was awake when Chantelle entered the ward.

After a few days of rest, the small cuts on Railer's body had mostly healed. But his broken bones still needed time to recover, so he spent most of his day lying in bed.

Railer could sit up for a while, but not too long.

When Chantelle walked in, she saw Rai looking around. His eyes brightened when he saw her.

Though Railer quickly hid his emotions, Chantelle still caught a glimpse of them.

It seemed like this child missed her.

Chantelle had hurt her wrist badly the day before, so it was wrapped in thick gauze.

Worried about scaring Railer, she hadn't visited him.

Today, she felt her injury was much better. She had even convinced Russell to install nano ligaments.

Though she wasn't fully healed, the injury was barely noticeable if she was careful.

However, the nano ligament had a major side effect. It only lasted for five hours, and once removed, the pain doubled.

Most people avoided using it unless absolutely necessary.

This was one reason why this technology was still only in Russell's lab and hadn't been released to the market.

Chantelle didn't mind the pain. She was willing to endure it so Railer wouldn't worry.

"Rai, I'm here to visit you. How are you feeling today? Did you miss me?"

Railer looked at Chantelle calmly at first, but when he heard her question, he quietly turned away.

Chantelle, undeterred, walked up to him with excitement and pulled out a packet of gummies.

"I brought some gummies for you. If your medicine tastes bitter, you can have a gummy. It's really yummy!" Chantelle smiled as she opened the packet and ate one herself.

"Hmm, it looks like Kane wasn't lying to me. These gummies are really good. Rai, do you want to try one?"

Chantelle tried to imitate Kane's social skills as she praised the gummies.

But Railer didn't seem interested at all.

He didn't even glance at the gummies.

"Well, if you don't like them, I'll bring something else next time I come here!" Chantelle started to leave, but then she felt a small hand tugging at the corner of her clothes.

Hahaha, it's so easy to fool a child. My son still cares about me!

Chantelle felt a sense of pride in her heart.

"You don't want me to leave?"

Railer frowned and nodded.

Once she got her answer, Chantelle sat down beside the bed again. She hadn't planned to leave anyway.

"Okay, I won't leave. I'll stay here with you. Do you want a gummy?"

Railer ignored her once again!

It seemed like Chantelle still had to work hard to bring out her genius son's childlike side.

I'll stop teasing him today!

With that thought, Chantelle ate a gummy and took out the phone she had prepared for Rai.

This phone had been upgraded and functions just as well as an adult's phone.

However, it was designed for children with lower radiation emissions.

"Rai, why don't you take a look at this?"

Railer turned around reluctantly but seemed a little interested when he saw it was a phone.

"Don't underestimate this high-tech phone. Want to try it?"

Chantelle waved the phone in front of Railer.

It was clear that Railer's eyes lit up when he heard it was high-tech.

Seeing his interest, Chantelle placed the phone in his uninjured hand and adjusted the bed so he could sit up comfortably.

Railer was clearly fascinated by the phone. His fingers tapped on the screen, seemingly wanting to explore all its functions.

Chantelle sat quietly beside the bed, watching him carefully without interrupting.

For a moment, Chantelle felt a sense of happiness.

She was lost in thought when Rai suddenly pulled on her hand.

A QR code appeared on the screen.

"Rai, are you asking for my Instagram?"

Railer rolled his eyes at Chantelle helplessly, pointing at the QR code on the screen.

"Okay, since you're so persistent, I'll follow you!"

Chantelle took out her phone, scanned the QR code, and followed Railer on Instagram.

She then opened the chat and sent a hug emoji to Railer.

Excitedly, Chantelle waited for Railer's reply, but he left her message on "seen."

Hah, naughty kids are all the same. Who did Railer inherit this from?

Outside the villa, a flash of lightning lit up the sky, followed by a loud rumble of thunder as if the ground might shatter.

Chantelle saw Railer's small body tremble.

She realized he was scared of the thunder, so she quickly took his hand.

Railer turned and looked at her with his eyes full of mixed emotions—she clearly saw his vulnerability and fear.

"Don't be afraid. I'm here with you."

Railer nodded, then shook his head. Soon, he turned away and ignored her.

But his little hand still clutched Chantelle's tightly, not letting go of her.

Chantelle's heart ached as she watched Rai, clearly scared of the thunder.

How had Railer dealt with thunderstorms at the Wilson residence? Had he been afraid like this? Was anyone there to comfort him? It must have been terrifying for him to be alone. I should have come back earlier to be there with him.

The thought made Chantelle feel like crying.

Chantelle barely slept that night as she stayed beside Rai.

When she finally walked out of Rai's ward to rest, Calvin hurried over.

"Ms. Chantelle, Felix's daughter, showed up again!"

Chantelle, who had been sleepy, instantly became alert.

"Where?"

"The Fourth Ring Bridge. She even asked Mr. Wilson out!"

"Let's go check it out." Chantelle and Calvin quickly left.

Because of the dispute between Steve and Kate at the bar, Felix's daughter hadn't shown up before. This time, Chantelle was determined to meet her.
