Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 91: Meeting The Concubine (II)
Ruela had been staring at her reflection in the mirror for a long, long time before going to the banquet. So she knew her face clearly and couldn’t help to compare her look to this woman.
Ruela felt that she had grown prettier with each passing day, and she was fascinated by how the Moon Goddess continued to bless her, even though she always prayed that she already had enough beauty.
But the moment she saw the woman resting in the Beast King’s arms, something inside her cracked.
She realized then that the Moon Goddess must not love her enough!
Because how else could another woman look so breathtaking while wearing nothing but tattered clothes?
It was... as if this random woman was the one truly blessed by the Moon Goddess and the faeries, not her.
Ruela was painfully aware that the woman was more alluring than she was. Worse still, the fact that she had arrived while being carried personally by the Beast King was an unmistakable sign that the Beast King was about to take another concubine.
Her vision blurred as tears welled up. The confidence she had built from the ground up began to shrink, crumbling piece by piece. She suddenly felt small and insignificant, especially when this woman could outshine her even while dressed in a filthy tunic.
’Can I really take the Beast King’s heart like this?’
Shame flooded her. She felt exposed, naked in her own vanity, and the urge to flee back to her courtyard and hide beneath her bed nearly overwhelmed her.
Then she felt a gentle nudge from behind.
"Miss, keep your head up," Leah whispered urgently. "You’re standing in front of the Beast King."
"B-but—"
"Don’t lose your confidence over that woman," Leah interrupted softly but firmly. "That woman is not more beautiful than you. Remember, you’ve been blessed by the Moon Goddess. Even if you feel lacking now, the Goddess will surely grant you even more beauty as long as you pray to her later."
Leah leaned closer. "What matters right now is greeting the Beast King and showing him the perfect smile to warm his heart. I’m sure he will understand your sincerity."
Ruela swallowed hard.
Slowly, she gathered herself. Leah’s words soothed her trembling heart, and bit by bit, her confidence returned.
She lifted her chin and put on her sweetest smile as she walked toward the Beast King, who stood at the entrance of the banquet hall, watching her with tight lip and unreadable expression.
She forced a graceful sway into her steps, making her hips move deliberately from side to side, ensuring that the Beast King knew she was more than ready to bear his offspring.
When she finally stood before him, her perfume was overwhelming, and the gemstones adorning her body shimmered so intensely that Kael was forced to hold his breath for a moment, and squinting to shield his eyes from the dazzle.
"Welcome back, My King," Ruela said softly. "I’ve been waiting for your return. I was so worried about you while you were away... but it seems my worry was unnecessary. You are truly unbeatable."
Her cheeks flushed as she lowered her head bashfully, legs fidgeting as she waited for his response.
But Kael said nothing.
Panic flickered through her chest. Biting her lip, Ruela quickly improvised, turning her attention to the white-haired boy seated on Kael’s left arm.
"And this must be the Little Prince we’ve been searching for all this time!" Ruela exclaimed warmly. "I’ve prayed every day for your safe return."
The boy stared at her silently.
Ruela assumed he was simply shy, or perhaps awestruck by her beauty. Still, a faint unease crossed her mind. It would be troublesome if the Little Prince developed some kind of inappropriate affection for his father’s concubine once he grew older.
"My name is Ruela of the Silvertooth Pack," she continued, smiling alluringly. "I am your father’s first, and only, concubine." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
She deliberately ignored Sisi.
Aside from the brief moment when their eyes met earlier, Ruela pretended the woman didn’t exist at all.
The surrounding guards and high-ranking beastmen noticed her behavior immediately. Sisi, for her part, merely curved her lips into a thin, enigmatic smile.
She wasn’t bothered by being ignored.
After all, Kael was a king. Just like human monarchs with countless concubines, a man of his status would naturally be surrounded by women and sire many offspring. This woman might be the first, but definitely wouldn’t be the last concubine Kael had.
But that still didn’t concern her.
What troubled her... was Jojo.
Based on the confused look in his eyes earlier, it was clear that he hadn’t known about his father’s concubine at all.
’This woman will eventually act kind toward Jojo,’ Sisi thought, ’Trying to win his favor to gain Kael’s attention.’
And that unsettled her.
Ruela’s attire alone was inappropriate—clearly chosen to seduce Kael in a crowded, public setting. Even worse, she ignored Sisi entirely, likely misunderstanding the situation simply because Kael happened to be carrying her.
Sisi had never experienced the life of concubines. Half her life had been spent in an orphanage, the other half on a farm. But if she had to imagine it, it felt disturbingly familiar to the kids in the orphanage.
Like orphans crowding around an adult; crying, acting cute, tugging at sleeves, asking endless questions, doing anything to earn attention, so they could get adopted, just like how a concubine tried everything to get the king’s attention.
And from Sisi’s perspective, it was obvious.
Ruela saw her as competition.
’Should I feel honored?’ Sisi thought grimly. ’I’d rather have nothing to do with Kael... but that’s impossible. He’s Jojo’s father.’
Her chest felt heavy.
’Is this really the best path for Jojo? Growing up in a place like this, surrounded by concubines vying for his father’s attention, and possibly using him as a tool to gain favor?’
Sisi’s feelings were tangled and conflicted.
Part of her believed Jojo would be better off living a simpler life.
Yet she also knew she had no right to separate him from his father.
As long as Kael did not harm Jojo... all she could do was stay by his side and watch him grow.
