Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Royal Arrival (II)

Jojo shifted back into his beastman form, and his appearance instantly tugged at everyone’s heartstrings.

He was even cuter this way—still sporting his silver-white hair and dark blue eyes, but now with more humanlike facial features. His innocence was unmistakable, stirring a powerful urge in everyone present to protect him from harm.

It was no wonder the Beast King had continued searching for him, even when the chances of finding the little prince had once seemed nearly impossible.

"Come here, Jojo. Let me carry you," Kael said, opening his arms and leaning toward his son, who was currently being held by Sisi.

Jojo looked at his father, then back at Sisi, silently waiting for her response.

"What are you looking at me for?" Sisi said. "He’s your father. Go on, let him carry you."

"Um..." Jojo reluctantly loosened his grip around Sisi’s neck and wrapped his arms around his father instead.

It wasn’t the first time Kael had carried Jojo since they reunited, but his hesitation puzzled Kael. The boy hadn’t shown any reluctance before.

"What do you want?" Kael asked bluntly.

He had raised Jojo himself and knew the boy well. When Jojo had something to say, he would sulk or throw a quiet tantrum until his father listened, just like now.

"Daddy, can you carry Sisi too?" Jojo asked.

"Huh? Why should I carry her?" Kael frowned, glancing at Sisi, who merely shrugged as usual.

"Because... um... Sisi is tired, Daddy. We didn’t sleep at all last night!"

In truth, Jojo was simply nervous about being separated from her. There were too many unfamiliar faces around, and Sisi made him feel safe.

In his young mind, as long as Sisi was being carried too, he would feel closer to her.

Or better yet, Daddy could carry Sisi in one arm like before, and Sisi could carry him!

After all, his father was incredibly strong. Carrying both of them wouldn’t even bother him.

"Do you think I’m not tired?" Kael complained. "All you two did was sit on my back while I sprinted all night just to get here."

Jojo blinked at him. "But you don’t look tired, Daddy."

...

’The little prince isn’t wrong,’ the high-ranking beastmen silently agreed as they glanced at their king. Not only did he look fine, he looked even better now, with his son by his side.

"See?" Kael huffed. "You cling to her so much that you’re starting to talk like her. Now you even talk back to me."

"Sisi always tells me to be honest with good people," Jojo said seriously. "You’re my good Daddy again, so I have to be honest!"

Kael laughed heartily. "You little sweet-talker. Fine. I’ll carry her too."

Everyone’s attention shifted to Sisi, who had been unusually quiet.

She shook her head quickly. "No need. I can walk on my own."

"Do you think I want to carry you?" Kael sneered. "This is just Jojo’s request. Nothing more."

That, however, wasn’t entirely true.

Kael had sworn to himself that he would keep a close watch on her to make sure she didn’t cause trouble again. So, keeping her near, within arm’s reach, felt necessary.

It would be even better if there was skin-to-skin contact, such as her sitting on his arm, so he could truly feel at ease.

But saying that aloud would only invite misunderstandings, especially in front of his subjects. If he carried her willingly without Jojo’s request, they would surely assume he harbored special feelings for the troublesome woman!

Fortunately, Jojo had asked for it.

That gave Kael the perfect excuse to lift her without warning and seat her on his arm.

"Wha—!" Sisi yelped, instinctively wrapping her arms around Kael’s neck as she was hoisted up.

Now Jojo sat on his right arm, and Sisi on his left.

The Beast King showed no sign of strain despite carrying two people at once.

In fact, the sight of the king, his son, and this mysterious woman together felt strangely harmonious, like a family of three.

All the beastmen present shared the same thought about this picture perfect family.

"You should’ve warned me before picking me up," Sisi complained. "My butt hurts after sitting on your back all night."

"That’s your fault for being weak," Kael shot back.

"Daddy, my butt hurts too," Jojo chimed in. "And I’m hungry..."

"Stop taking her side," Kael scolded. "Tsk. You really don’t put Daddy in your eyes anymore!"

Yet even as he glared, the beastmen noticed that he was struggling to suppress a smile, an expression they had never seen on their cold, imposing king.

"What are you all staring at?" Kael snapped. "Let’s return to the palace. My son is tired."

"Y-yes, My King!"

The high-ranking beastmen hurriedly assembled behind him, forming the royal entourage.

Jojo gazed at them with wide blue eyes. "Daddy, are they your new friends? I didn’t know you had so many friends before..."

"They are my subjects," Kael explained patiently. "They follow my orders. In the future, you’ll have to take care of them too, make sure they’re safe and prosper in the kingdom."

"Mmm..." Jojo continued staring at them, still unsure whether he really wanted such a responsibility.

Vestor struggled mightily to keep himself from pinching the boy’s cheeks, the cuteness was almost unbearable for his aging heart.

"Do not worry, Little Prince," Vestor said warmly. "We will naturally follow your orders as well."

"Really?" Jojo tilted his head. "Then can I ask for meat? Daddy didn’t want to stop for food last night, and now I’m very hungry..."

"Of course!" Vestor replied. "Once we arrive at the palace, there will be a banquet in your honor."

"What’s a banquet, Daddy?"

"A party with lots of food," Kael said. "You can eat whatever you want."

That was all Jojo needed to hear.

His face lit up instantly as he turned to Sisi. "Sisi! Did you hear that? We can eat whatever we want!"

"I heard," Sisi smiled. "Don’t forget to thank your Daddy, okay?"

"Um! Thank you, Daddy! You’re the best!" Jojo exclaimed, nuzzling his cheek against Kael’s chest. "Let’s go! I can’t wait to eat!"
