Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 63: A Blizzard Chase (II)
[Music Recommendation: Hana-Bi Original Soundtrack]
As Grishaw and his subordinate prepared for their attacks, they observed their prey from two different trees.
Honestly, they hadn’t been given clear instructions by the Beast King at that time. Their king had simply told them to chase after her, which they assumed meant retrieving their little prince.
As for the woman...
Grishaw decided that pinning her down, and injuring her slightly, should be acceptable, since their talons were sharp even in their beastman forms.
He had been observing this woman for a while and felt that Sisi was far too gentle to be accused of abuse. They had even heard their little prince crying for her several times as they ran through the blizzard.
Nevertheless, they had to complete their task no matter what. Such was the essence of being a soldier: to do what their superiors demanded, even if it might cost lives... their own, or others’.
With his sharp eagle eyes, Grishaw looked at his subordinate perched on a different tree and nodded.
Thus, they launched their attacks at once.
Grishaw dove from the front, aiming his sharp talons at Sisi’s head, while his subordinate prepared to pin her down from behind, with this tactic, no matter how the wind blow from the north or the south, at least one of them could catch her.
As they descended together, the cold wind suddenly stopped blowing for a few seconds.
It was even stranger than before, but also a perfect opportunity. Without the wind, neither of them would be blown off course.
Grishaw was already inches from Sisi’s head when she suddenly lifted her face, and a glint of violet flashed in her eyes.
Grishaw held his breath.
For a second, he wondered if he had hallucinated, because the violet vanished, returning to brown almost instantly.
Then—
SLAP!
"Urgh!"
"Arrrggh!"
Both Grishaw and his subordinate were caught completely off guard when tree branches near their position suddenly moved on their own and slammed into them, sending them flying away from their target.
The eagle envoy lost consciousness immediately after being flung into a tree.
Grishaw, however, forced himself to recover just before his body collided with the bark. He stabilized himself, confusion flooding his mind.
He didn’t understand what was happening, but he still had to capture the woman. This was a direct order from his king.
Yet, just as he prepared to dive again, the tree behind him suddenly came alive.
Its branches and vines wrapped around him tightly, pulling him in, hugging him as if the tree itself intended to claim him forever.
"Wait—w-what is this?! No—no! Let me go!"
Grishaw panicked, struggling desperately, but it was useless. He was completely restrained, bound to the tree, and could do nothing but scream.
His cries of terror echoed through the woods.
Kael’s ears twitched as he heard it. He immediately recognized Grishaw’s voice.
He frowned.
’What in the hell is happening?’ Kael thought. ’That woman doesn’t look strong. How can an eagle and his subordinate fail to capture her?’
"Ugh..."
Kael shifted his gaze back to Marik, who lay sprawled on the ground. Blood seeped from countless open wounds.
This time, Kael had deliberately broken his legs, ensuring he couldn’t escape, though he had no intention of killing him yet.
He intended to skin the tiger alive later, mount his head on a stake, and hang his pelt at the gates of his kingdom as a warning for those who dared to hurt Jojo in the future.
Marik was in excruciating pain. His legs were shattered, but his spirit remained unyielding.
Hearing the scream of terror from Kael’s subordinate filled him with grim satisfaction.
And he laughed.
Yes, he laughed, mocking the cursed wolf for being stupid.
"Do you really think Sisi can’t fight back?" Marik taunted. "You should’ve chased after her instead of wasting time with me, Kael!"
He coughed blood but kept going.
"Now Sisi and Jojo must be far beyond your reach. And in the end—I still won! The Dawn Star will never reunite with his wretched father! Hahahaha!"
As he laughed like a madman, Kael kicked him brutally in the throat, and the laughter died instantly.
Kael’s crimson gaze burned with fury. His instincts had warned him that the woman wasn’t ordinary, but he had been too disturbed by her eyes to confront that truth. So he suppressed his instinct and sent those eagles instead.
"No matter. I can still catch up to her," Kael said coldly. "She is carrying my son. I won’t lose her trail, even if it takes days and nights."
He looked down at Marik, whose voice box was likely crushed, and smirked.
"She’s your woman, isn’t she? Then I’ll make sure she suffers the same fate as you. The two of you can reunite... in hell."
Marik’s eyes widened.
He tried to scream NO, but no sound came out.
All he could do was watch as Kael shifted into his massive black wolf form and vanished into the forest with terrifying speed.
Marik tried to move, but he couldn’t.
He ground his teeth as silent screams tore through his chest, tears streaming down his face.
He didn’t care if he himself was tortured. His life had long been paved with revenge, and he had always known what kind of death awaited him if he ever faced the Dusk Star again.
But Sisi was different.
She had always protected Jojo. Everything she did was for the boy’s sake.
It would be unbearably cruel if she were tortured to death simply for loving him like a mother.
Marik had never felt such despair in his life that he even prayed to the Moon Goddess.
’Goddess, I don’t care if you throw me into hell for eternity. But please, don’t let her get hurt. Sisi is truly innocent.’
’I shouldn’t have brought her with me. I should’ve left alone. It wouldn’t have mattered if my dream was destroyed as long as Sisi lived. As long as Sisi is alive... Jojo might not grow into a monster like his father.’
Marik wept as he spent the last shred of his consciousness regretting his decision.
’I’m sorry... Sisi...’
