Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 128: Are You My Mommy?
Both Sisi and Jojo stared at Kael, who was now sleeping peacefully. The painful grunts, sobs, and bloody tears were gone.
Jojo looked at Sisi, then at his father, his eyes lighting up. "I knew it! I knew you could help, Daddy!"
"Haha... did I?" Sisi laughed awkwardly. She walked over to Kael and crouched beside him, then slid her index finger beneath his nose, just to be sure he was still breathing.
"He’ll be alright," she murmured.
Taking out the handkerchief she had embroidered the night before, Sisi gently wiped the dried blood from the corners of his eyes and cheeks.
"Do you miss her that much?" she whispered to the sleeping Kael. Her gaze softened as she recalled the fate of her orphan friend, "I know love can be painful. I once saw a child at the orphanage. Her father died, and not long after, her mother followed. She couldn’t bear the heartbreak of losing her husband."
Sisi had seen many lovers broken by loss during her time in the orphanage. It left her younger self confused to why would anyone give their heart to someone who could leave or die at any moment?
"To give your heart to a fated mate who’s long gone..." Sisi smiled faintly. "I never knew you could be so loyal."
She turned to Jojo, who had been standing at a distance.
He was afraid his father might start thrashing around again. But when he saw Sisi smiling, his shoulders relaxed, and he slowly walked over.
"Sisi... how’s Daddy?" he asked.
"He’ll be fine. He’ll wake up soon." She looked down at him and smiled gently. "Now, let’s patch you up, alright?"
Sisi examined the scrapes and bruises covering his body. "You hurt yourself pretty badly. Doesn’t it hurt?"
Jojo shook his head quickly. "Nope! Jojo is strong! It doesn’t hurt at all!"
"Really?" Sisi raised an eyebrow. "You shouldn’t lie if you’re hurting, Jojo..."
Jojo puffed out his chest. He wanted to look brave, to prove he was already a big boy, ready to help his father hunt as a little assistant.
But Sisi’s worried tone shattered his act. His eyes trembled, tears welling up. "It hurts so much, Sisi, but Jojo won’t cry..."
Sisi sighed softly.
"Alright. Stay here with your Daddy. I’ll get some water and make medicine for you," she said before stepping out of the cave.
Jojo sat beside his father, staring at him for a long time.
"Daddy..." he whispered. "Do you like Sisi? Why do you call her ’my love’? Isn’t that only for your mate?"
He didn’t understand most of what his father said during his sleep talk. But he knew love came in different forms. The love Daddy had for Sisi wasn’t the same as the love Jojo felt for her.
So, the boy was convinced that his father fell in love with Sisi, or else why call her my love?
As he waited, Jojo muttered to himself, "I’d be happy if you mated with Sisi, Daddy... but you’re scary. What if she hates you for being scary?"
He knew Sisi didn’t really like Daddy, probably because of what happened when they first met during the blizzard.
Of course, Jojo would always take Sisi’s side. If she didn’t want his father, then that was that.
’But wouldn’t it be nice if Sisi were my Mommy?’ he thought.
When Sisi returned, she carried a small bowl of medicine. Sitting beside Jojo, she carefully applied the cream made from crushed plants to his wounds.
She avoided Acate leaves—they were far too itchy for a child. Jojo would scratch them and only make things worse.
As she worked, Jojo suddenly asked, "Sisi... do you hate Daddy?"
Her hand froze for a moment.
"Hate is a strong word," she replied gently. "I don’t hate your Daddy, as long as he treats you well."
"Mm... Daddy is good to me," Jojo said earnestly. "He let me sleep on his warm fur last night. We always do that."
"That’s a good start," Sisi smiled. "He should treat you nicely, since you’re his only son."
Remembering Kael’s sleep-murmured words, she asked, "Jojo... do you remember anything about your Mommy?"
"My Mommy?" Jojo frowned, searching his memories. But the only person who came to mind was Sisi herself. "Daddy said I never had a Mommy."
"Really? He never talked about her?"
"Mm. He said Jojo doesn’t need one. Daddy can do everything for me." Jojo tilted his head. "Sisi, what does a Mommy usually do? Does she hunt like Daddy?"
Sisi rolled her eyes imagining Kael’s prideful tone when he said that Jojo didn’t need a mother.
Of course Kael didn’t want Jojo thinking about a mother he never met. Still, the fact that Jojo didn’t even understand what a mother was made her chest ache.
"A Mommy is the one who gave birth to you," Sisi said softly.
"It’s not Daddy?"
"Pfft, silly. Your Daddy can’t give birth. He’s a man—just like you," she explained. "Your birth mother might have returned to heaven after bringing you into this world." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
She continued gently, "But if she were still alive, she’d take care of you. She’d bathe you, feed you, and hug you to sleep. She would love you veeery much."
Jojo hesitated, then glanced back at her.
"But Sisi... you do all that." His voice was quiet. "Does that mean you’re my Mommy?"
Sisi fell silent.
When it was just the two of them, she would’ve said yes without hesitation.
But now that Jojo had reunited with his father—a man who still loved his deceased mate. Claiming that role now felt wrong.
It felt like a disrespect for Jojo’s birth mother, and Kael’s love.
Jojo waited.
"Sisi... are you my Mommy?" he asked again.
She didn’t answer. She only kept applying the cream.
After a long silence, Jojo lowered his head in shame and heartbreak.
He didn’t cry this time, but his chest ached painfully.
’Why won’t you say yes, Sisi? Am I not a good boy?’
’If you’re not my Mommy... then who else could be? I don’t want anyone but you...’
