It was common knowledge here that the fairy race had a strict hierarchy.
If the leader have no charisma, or respect.
Other races usually ignore their wellbeing.
In fact many of them will even cheer.
But fairies were different.
If the Marauders captured Alice, the scattered new fairies would come out on their own.
To save her.
And even if the new fairies didn't appear, Alice was still valuable.
They could use her to negotiate with the established fairy faction on Mars.
Trade her for supplies, weapons, and even some fairies slave.
On the rooftop, they're now resting.
Silen were laying on top a carpet, already falling a sleep.
Karr stayed on the edge of the roof, sword in hand, watching the dark streets below.
Alice sat with her back to a stone pillar. Her eyes were closed.
They needed rest.
But unfortunately they didn't get it for long.
Karr's head tilted slightly, then his grip tightened.
"Everyone wake up! Ambush!"
A rope loop snapped over his neck from behind and yanked him backward.
BAM!
His back hit the roof tiles.
His sword raised up, but a boot pinned his wrist.
Alice's eyes opened. A dagger already come to her face.
She dodged by tilting her head.
The dagger stabbed against the stone wall.
Alice took out her knife than stabbed the attack form it's torse.
STAB!!!
She twist it than kicked him away.
"Dammit! Cannot even rest for a hour."
She than look at Silen to call him otu.
But it's too late.
A man came out of the stairwell and spray some kind of gas to Silen's face.
BAM!
Silen's head turned and his sleep deepened.
"Got the Veyr," the man said.
Alice's voice cut through the roof.
"Karr. Silen."
Karr ripped the rope away and shoved the boot off his wrist.
His sword snapped up.
Slash!
The man above him jumped back, but Karr stepped in and hit him across the forearm.
BAM!
The attacker dropped his grip and backed away, shaking his hand.
Two more rushed Karr at once.
One swung a pipe. One tried to hook his ankle.
Karr shifted his stance and cut low.
Slash!
The hook-man's calf opened. He fell and grabbed his leg.
The pipe came down.
Karr raised his sword to block.
CLANG!
Karr's shoulder dipped from the force, but he held it.
Alice sprinted for Silen.
A Marauder stepped into her path with a net.
Alice didn't stop.
She crashed into him, before he could even throw it.
BAM!
He flew backward and hit the rooftop rail.
Alice grabbed his wrist and slammed it into the metal.
Crack!
The net fell from his hand.
She reached Silen and hooked her arm under his shoulders.
He was heavy, far heavier than even the most obese man.
A second man grabbed Silen's ankle and yanked.
Alice's grip almost slipped.
"Karr!" she shouted.
Karr turned and threw a short knife he picked from the roof.
The blade struck the man's hand.
STAB!
Blood spurted out.
The man screamed and let go.
Alice dragged Silen toward the stairwell hatch.
One of the man shoot toward Alice with a crossbow.
Clang!
A bolt hit the roof near her feet.
Clang!
Another bolt hit the wall near her head.
Alice fastened her pace, the situation now is really bad.
They don't even know how many people were attacking them, and they even have long range weapon.
Karr cut his way toward her.
Slash!
A man tried to grab Karr's sword arm. Karr split his fingers and shoved him aside.
Slash!
Another attacker rushed with a pipe.
Karr stepped in and rammed his shoulder into the man's chest.
BAM!
The man fell backward into two others.
Alice reached the hatch.
A Marauder stood inside the opening, blocking it with a short spear.
He stabbed at her face.
Alice ducked and shoved Silen's body forward.
Silen's shoulder slammed the spear aside.
Alice punched the spearman's throat.
BAM!
He gagged and dropped.
She grabbed his collar and threw him down the stairs.
"Let's go karr!"
Alice dragged Silen through the hatch.
Karr jumped in after her.
More marauder come after them, they already in the building.
When they asleep some of the climb it form outside, while other go inside preparing to ambush them.
The building that once were their temporary shelter now become a dead trap.
Alice hauled Silen down the stairs.
He's to heavy for her to carry while fighting.
Inside she cursed.
'Just how could he's so heavy? What he eating!?'
She already swear to tell him to go on diet, or learn to fight.
Karr stayed at the top step.
His sword swept trough the enemy.
Slash!
A man's thigh slashed open and he fell into the others.
The stairwell clogged with many bodies.
There're human, and also other alien race.
Karr kicked the fallen man down.
BAM!
Two more tried to push through.
Karr stabbed one in the shoulder and cut the other across the wrist.
Slash! Slash!
"Argh! Curse you!"
"Just wait when we capture you!"
They screamed and backed off.
Alice dragged Silen down into the hallway below.
Concrete walls boxed them in. Doors lined both sides, most of them broken or hanging loose. Dust covered the floor in a thin layer.
A flashlight snapped on at the far end.
"Downstairs. Cut them off!" a man shouted.
Alice pulled Silen into the nearest room.
Inside was bare.
A broken table lay on its side, and old cloth was piled in the corner.
Karr slammed the door.
The handle didn't lock.
He shoved the table against it.
Alice laid Silen down.
His eyes were shut.
BAM!!!!
She slapped his cheek once.
"Wake up," she said.
Karr pressed his ear to the door.
"Three. Maybe four," he said.
The door shook.
BAM!
The table jumped.
Alice grabbed a broken wood plank and held her knife.
The door shook again.
BAM!
A crack split along the frame.
Karr stepped off to the side and raised his sword.
The door burst inward.
BAM!
A man stumbled through with a pipe raised.
Karr cut across his ribs.
Slash!
The man dropped and rolled, choking.
A second Marauder pushed in behind him.
Alice stepped in and stabbed his thigh.
STAB!
He screamed and fell forward.
