Chapter 679: Mars

"Alice, what are you doing?" Silen asked when she didn’t move.

"You two go first. I need to check this document."

"Okay. We won’t go far."

Silen and Karr nodded, then left her alone.

They didn’t ask much. They knew Alice had her own goal.

Alice didn’t care about human history, but she felt this would let her learn more about her enemy.

"This paper looks like the one from Alex’s home planet."

She started reading through all the information about a planet called Mars.

According to the document, humanity first started from a planet called Earth.

In 1957, they launched their first satellite.

In 1969, they landed on the Moon.

’This planet, Earth, seems like Ainode before the dungeon break. Without magic and special power, they focused on technology.’

The document continued, describing their technological growth through wars.

From the industrial era, to the spacefaring era.

With the invention of cold fusion by AI, humanity created the first permanent base on the Moon in 2030.

Things were stable until they began colonizing Mars in 2060.

Mars had no atmosphere, making colonization hard.

The temperature was so extreme that normal humans couldn’t survive there.

That was until humanity made a new discovery, nanomachines that could grow by themselves.

Using them, they transformed Mars into a paradise.

By the year 2,112, the transformation was complete.

Mars, which had existed mostly as hype to get more funding, became the central target for many countries.

A cold war began as each side tried to carve out the biggest territory.

Alice shook her head. She didn’t feel this information was worth much.

She started skimming through the pages.

’Another war, another terror attack...’

Then she read about an excavation that began in 2,742.

A long excavation kept secret from the public.

Through it, humanity learned there used to be another civilization on Mars.

With that knowledge, humanity poured even more resources into the excavation, yet what they found was despair.

Just like humans often used rats as guinea pigs, humans were just another experiment created by another race.

"Celestial..." Alice mumbled. "I’ve never heard that name before. Is this just a different word for a race I know?"

She read that humanity in this era called their universe the Milky Way Galaxy.

According to their information, more galaxies existed in the past, but as time passed and everything moved farther apart, they became so distant that it was now impossible to see them.

For Alice, that part wasn’t important.

But the Celestials were.

She kept flipping through pages, checking other documents and learning everything she could.

’So the Celestials created humans. Their goal was to have them harvest resources from Earth while they waited to harvest it from Mars. According to this, they succeeded and left long before humanity found any way into space. They were recorded as gods and ancient deities.’

’They tried to destroy all proof by destroying Mars. But why bother?’

Alice didn’t get it. It didn’t make sense to her.

They could have just killed all humans if they were afraid of them.

Yet they chose to destroy clues instead.

Still, this information alone was enough to create chaos on Earth.

Humanity went crazy as they questioned their own existence.

Some people used the opportunity to wage war, creating even more chaos.

Then the Celestials came back.

They looked like humans, but they were very strong and hard to kill.

They kept regenerating even if their heads were chopped off.

They could control blood as a weapon, and they used strange magic.

A huge war erupted.

’Aren’t these Celestials just vampires? It seems they already had a grudge since the past.’

But then a question surfaced in Alice’s mind.

If humanity was created by vampires as an experiment, how could they have their own Progenitor?

’This is weird.’

She kept searching for more information but didn’t find any further detail.

The only thing she found was that Mars was destroyed in the war, and this was the planet she was on.

’So I’m on Mars, and humanity now uses this planet as their prison.’

Shaking her head, she went to another area.

They found a good spot on the rooftop and used it as their temporary shelter.

The sky darkened as the fire crackled around them.

Silen was busy roasting the meat, while Karr cleaned a sword he had just found. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"This is a good sword. I also found some armor for us."

He pointed to the side, where a cart was filled with dusty kevlar.

Some of it was very old, but it looked usable.

Far better than what they were using now.

"So how did you guys get captured by the Empire?" Alice asked.

"We were found hunting on one of their Eden-class planets," Karr said.

Eden-class planets were paradise for most living beings.

A variety of exotic beasts lived there, fetching a high price across the universe.

"Illegal hunting... I see." She then turned to Silen. "How about you?"

"My planet was invaded. I told the council many times to stop smuggling things to the Federation, but they just didn’t listen," Silen said with a sigh.

"How about you, Alice?"

"Similar case, but they attacked us for no reason."

"Well, it’s your identity. The fairy race and vampires are sworn enemies of humanity," Silen replied.

"My race also does bounty hunting, and we hunt many of your race," Karr said, not trying to hide it.

It wasn’t like he was the one doing it.

"You hunt them? Where do you find them?"

"You’d be surprised," Karr said with a chuckle. "Many of them hide under the Empire’s fingertips. They live alongside humans, disguising as one. Some even get married, giving birth to half-human, half-vampire kids."

Alice was surprised, but after thinking about it, she realized it made sense.

For those without power, the best way to survive was to hide their identity and mingle with the rest.

"What happened to the kids after you killed them?"

Karr smiled coldly.

"Of course I killed them all. You may think it’s cruel, but it’s far better fate than whatever they had in mind."
