Mercenary's War-Chapter 2123 - 2100: Farewell
This time, Gao Yang gained a lot in Ukraine. Although he doesn’t yet know Yuri’s use, he is certain that Vorvitsky is a talent, and it won’t be long before he formally serves Satan.
Over the next two days, Gao Yang was busy recruiting the artillerymen he needed. This process was not easy because he wanted genuinely useful people who were willing to go to a distant and unfamiliar place to fight, with the risk of dying in an unknown place.
However, recruiting artillerymen wasn’t too difficult. As they say, generous rewards attract the brave. There’s no need to discuss ideals or sentiments; a high salary is enough. There are always people willing to do anything for money.
In the end, Gao Yang selected thirty-three people, all of whom were experienced artillerymen. Most of the chosen ones, twenty-eight to be exact, came from the surrendered government forces, all of whom were personally captured by Gao Yang and his team, as they were from the 15th Independent Artillery Regiment.
The entire 15th Independent Artillery Regiment surrendered. The terms offered were that they could leave freely without restrictions after surrendering and were welcome to serve the militia if they wished to stay, but would not be obstructed if they wanted to leave.
These were the conditions set, but in execution, discounts were made. Those with no special skills and not critically important could leave easily, as they were mere order executors. They surrendered on orders from above and would not be harshly treated if they went back, but the situation for officers, especially those issuing orders, was complicated.
If they didn’t go back, their families were under government control, so fully dedicating themselves to the militia was impossible. If they did go back, even if Nate agreed to let them go, as the main people responsible for leading their subordinates in surrendering, they wouldn’t have a good outcome.
In this situation, Gao Yang’s recruitment of mercenaries provided this group with an unexpected third option and the best one.
In the Ukrainian civil war, neither serving the government forces nor the militia was safe, both carrying significant risks. So, going to an unfamiliar place to continue as artillerymen didn’t seem more dangerous, especially with a lucrative pay. Therefore, when Gao Yang spoke to his selected individuals one by one, only two refused his offer, while the remaining twenty-eight happily accepted.
If Gao Yang was not only looking for technical backbones but also for outstanding talents, he might have been able to pull half a regiment.
After waiting two days, the candidates were chosen. Along with Vorvitsky and Yuri, there were thirty-five people in total, and the money was soon to be in place.
Gao Yang was going to lend Nate a large sum of money. This money was not from the Satan Mercenary Corps’s funds but from his own pocket.
Now, Gao Yang himself didn’t know how much money he had. The diamond mine had stable returns, the marine security ships provided stable income, and even Li Jinfang and his comrades gave him dividends every year. Furthermore, there were dividends from Shava of the White Shark Gang. With these stable income streams, Gao Yang lost track of his total wealth.
For Gao Yang, taking out fifty million dollars was easy. He just needed to transfer funds lying idle in his account, but converting it into cash was troublesome. It needed to go through multiple hands, broken down into small amounts, repeatedly processed through money-laundering operations, and eventually arrive as cash at Gao Yang’s specified location, in Shava’s hands.
Cleaning fifty million dollars would cost at least fifty to one hundred thousand dollars, and to convert it into cash required an expense of at least two million dollars, so eventually, Gao Yang’s funds in the bank would become cash circulating in the Ukrainian civil war market.
The complexity was due to the fact that mercenary-earned money is not be easily accounted for. To prevent hardworking earnings from being suddenly frozen and becoming someone else’s, various steps like deposit and withdrawal laundering are necessary.
The money Gao Yang used this time was stashed in the bank, not particularly risky. However, if it involved depositing hot cash in banks or converting risky funds into legal money, laundering organizations could charge ten to twenty percent fees, without an upper limit.
Even after converting into cash, in Ukraine, Gao Yang had no suitable alternatives to transport fifty million dollars, so he could only rely on Shava’s channel. European laundering organizations would send cash in batches to Kiev to Shava, who would then dispatch it to Donetsk. To ensure safety, the money couldn’t be transported all at once but in batches of five million, three million, or ten million.
Even if Gao Yang had an established transportation route in Ukraine with reliable personnel for transport, by the time the fifty million dollars left the bank and reached Nate, it would only be forty-seven million dollars.
An additional million was spent as reasonable compensation to Shava for his effort in transporting and the risk of losses en route. Without offering a million, who would bear the risk of sending large cash amounts into war zones? Even though they are subordinates nurtured by Gao Yang, he couldn’t use Shava like this. Business, after all, must adhere to business rules.
The last transaction amount was six million dollars. When a car, seeming ordinary from the outside, drove up to Gao Yang, four cardboard boxes were taken from the trunk. After removing the disguised items, inside were neatly packed bills wrapped in plastic sheets.
No need to count carefully, it’s one million per stack; after counting quickly, there were six hundred stacks. The one counting nodded to Nate and said, "No problem, Boss." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Nate turned to Gao Yang and said in a deep voice, "Fifty million dollars cash settled. Your land deeds and proof documents will be sent to your specified location. The transaction is complete. When do you plan to leave?"
Gao Yang smiled and replied, "I plan to leave now. I can reach Kiev by evening, and then I can fly out immediately."
Nate said softly, "Alright, I owe you one this time. Thanks."
After speaking, Nate gave Gao Yang a mercenary salute and quietly said, "Goodbye, hope to see you again."
Gao Yang was quite surprised because the always confident Nate appeared somewhat desolate, and his salute was filled with a sense of farewell.
Gao Yang immediately returned the mercenary salute to Nate, speaking in a deep voice, "We will definitely meet again, my friend. Whatever situation you face, I must remind you, as long as you’re alive, there is hope."
