The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 62: Thorne’s Powerful Return
Evangeline glanced at Thorne before adding more medicinal herbs to the tub. Recovering a Beast Crystal was a long process. With the Viper Saliva incident in the Grymdale Tribe on her mind, she turned and left the cave.
Once outside the cave, she saw it was broad daylight. It was already afternoon.
The females had all woken up. Realizing they were back in the Grymdale Tribe, they were overcome with a mix of tears and laughter.
The once-silent Grymdale Tribe finally returned to its usual liveliness. Only the male Beastmen had yet to escape the effects of the Viper Saliva; mindless giant pythons roamed everywhere throughout the tribe.
Elias Moretti was busy dealing with the aftermath, so Evangeline went to find him. "Where is the Monitor Tribe’s Witch?"
Elias Moretti said nothing. His cold scales brushed against her ankle as his forked tongue flickered, sniffing at her. After a long moment, he glanced in the direction she had come from and asked, "Where’s Thorne?"
Evangeline chuckled, dodging his question. "You don’t need my help? In that case, I’d be happy to take it easy."
Elias Moretti’s serpentine body tensed. He silently slithered forward and said coolly, "Gable is questioning him now. Follow me."
Evangeline followed Elias Moretti to a cave. The moment she stepped inside, she heard Ian Gable’s cold voice echoing off the stone walls. "Gregor, if you don’t start talking, this bone knife of mine is going to tear into your flesh."
A hoarse, strange cackle echoed from within the cave.
"The Monitor Lizard clan fought hard to take down the Grymdale Tribe. How could we let you solve this mess so easily? Gable, the Snake Clan’s Beastmen have become Wild Beasts. The Grymdale Tribe... should be done for now, shouldn’t it?"
His voice suddenly dropped, laced with a sinister tone.
"Gregor!" Gable’s voice was furious, followed by the dull thud of a blade pressing against skin.
"Gable," Elias Moretti called out coolly. As he entered the cave, he glanced at the tightly bound Gregor. The Monitor Tribe’s Witch was ruggedly built and just as tough.
Gable snorted and retracted his bone knife. "This Gregor is too tight-lipped," he said menacingly. "How about we scrape off his Scale Armor, slice off his flesh piece by piece, and see how tough he acts then!"
Elias Moretti narrowed his eyes, his scarlet Beast Eyes sweeping over Gregor, who immediately froze.
Just then, a soft, charming female voice spoke up. "There’s no need to go to such trouble."
Evangeline stepped out from behind Elias Moretti and sized up Gregor. As the latter’s face filled with suspicion, her hand, hidden behind her back, suddenly formed a seal. A spectral wisp of light shot out, sinking directly into the Star Pattern on his forehead.
Although Gregor was the Witch of the Monitor Tribe, he was merely a Beastman with a Three-star pattern.
Soon, Gregor’s pupils went unfocused, as if he were a puppet whose soul had been torn away.
Evangeline leaned down to gaze into his unfocused eyes and got straight to the point. "How do you cure the Viper Saliva poison?"
Gable watched on coldly. Hearing her question, he let out a sneer. "I’ve spent hours trying to pry his mouth open... Who do you think you are, the Beast God incarn—"
"Laureglory Herb, Feather Flower, Traction Grass..." Gregor suddenly spoke, his dry, cracked lips twitching. He spoke mechanically, word by word, finally adding, "The most important catalyst is Monitor Lizard venom."
The sneer froze on Gable’s lips.
His pupils constricted. His bone knife fell to the ground with a CLATTER that echoed through the cave.
Evangeline knelt in front of Gregor, her voice laced with a mesmerizing quality. "And then? Brew it into a potion and have the Snake Clan Beastmen drink it?"
Gregor’s vacant eyes flickered. "...Crush... apply... Snake Beastman... forked tongue..."
Evangeline nodded, stood up, and looked at Gable. "Did you hear all that? Get to it."
A muscle in Gable’s cheek twitched violently. After Evangeline had left the cave, he spoke in a hoarse voice, "So, what was I doing this whole time? All that interrogation... what was the point?!"
’He didn’t understand. Could the gap between one Witch and another really be this vast?’
Elias Moretti glanced at him and said in an icy voice, "Get ready. Prepare the antidote."
The moment he finished speaking, he turned to watch Evangeline’s receding figure. He was still hesitating, but his scarlet serpentine body had already shot after her like an arrow loosed from a bow.
"What now?" Evangeline asked, narrowing her eyes at Elias Moretti, who was blocking her path.
Elias Moretti’s scarlet tail coiled and uncoiled anxiously in the sand. He lowered his head slightly, his forked tongue flicking as a dark glint swirled in his slitted pupils. "I told you, if you made it back from Thorncliff alive, I hoped you would reconsider my offer."
The scales around Elias Moretti’s head flared gently with his breath. "Form a Contract with me—"
He slowly slithered behind her, his body tracing a possessive circle in the sand. "Anything Thorne can give you... I can give you. And what he can’t give you, I can provide as well..."
Elias Moretti’s scarlet Beast Eyes were fixed on Evangeline, holding a hint of sinister allure.
Before Evangeline could offer a reply, however, Elias Moretti’s scarlet body suddenly went rigid.
Immediately after, his serpentine body began to convulse violently. His scales grated against the ground with a piercing scrape as lucidity and chaos warred in his Beast Eyes. His body thrashed, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Evangeline frowned and took a step back, but her foot landed squarely on Elias Moretti’s tail.
The contact was a trigger. Elias Moretti’s scarlet Beast Eyes narrowed to slits, the last of his lucidity completely replaced by bloodlust. Brimming with the purest killing intent, his gaze locked onto the back of Evangeline’s neck.
The corner of Evangeline’s mouth twitched, and she gave Elias Moretti a strange look.
’To lose control to the Viper Saliva venom at a time like this... This is going to be pretty embarrassing for him when he snaps out of it, isn’t it?’
As the thought crossed her mind, Elias Moretti suddenly reared his head, his body tensing into a dangerous arc like a fully drawn bow. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
A cold glint flashed off his bone-white fangs as viscous venom slid down their tips—
TSS—
The instant the venom hit the ground, the earth sizzled and corroded, releasing a plume of pungent, acrid smoke.
Elias Moretti poised to strike!
Just as power began to gather at Evangeline’s fingertips, a black shadow flashed in front of her!
Black Scale Armor, gleaming with a cold metallic light, brutally intercepted Elias Moretti’s gaping maw.
Evangeline felt something tighten around her waist. A cool, slick tail had gently coiled around her, and in a dizzying whirl, she was gently set down in a clear space.
In the next instant, the two colossal beasts tore into one another.
Elias Moretti’s scarlet scales and the black serpent’s dark body writhed and tumbled together. In their wake, rocks cracked and venom splattered. It was a savage battle reminiscent of prehistoric beasts, and the surrounding flora seemed to tremble in fear.
After a furious exchange, the two giant pythons quickly separated.
Even in that brief clash, shattered scales had already fallen from the scarlet python’s body.
The black python shielded Evangeline, glancing back at her with dark green Beast Eyes filled with human-like concern.
Evangeline’s lashes fluttered. She reached out and gently stroked the brilliant, interwoven six-pointed Star Pattern on its forehead. As if tamed, it obligingly lowered its body, pressing its head docilely into her palm.
Evangeline’s eyes curved into crescents as a radiant smile blossomed on her lips. "Thorne—"
As Evangeline’s voice faded, Elias Moretti’s scarlet scales suddenly bristled, and he let out a piercing HISS.
Thorne turned back, his body arched like a fully drawn war bow. A savage light danced in his slitted, near-black, dark green pupils. In the sunlight, every single one of his scales reflected a cold glint, sharp as a blade.
In the next second, arcs of lightning began to crackle around Thorne’s serpentine body!
Then, he transformed into a black shadow wreathed in lightning and lunged toward Elias Moretti!
