Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Could Clara Grant Already Be That Important in His Heart?

With a faint SNAP, the three incense sticks in Seth Quinn’s hand all broke cleanly in half.

The air fell silent. Everyone was stunned.

Sandra, in particular, was baffled. The incense in Clara Grant’s hand had broken because she had tampered with it. ’Why did President Quinn’s break too?’

Faye Jennings was just as confused. She looked at Seth Quinn, her elegant brows furrowing slightly.

The people who had been whispering when Clara Grant’s incense broke now shut their mouths, their faces awash with embarrassment.

When Clara’s broke, they could shamelessly call her a bad omen who would bring misfortune to the cast and crew. But they couldn’t—and wouldn’t dare—say the same about President Quinn!

Amidst the silence, Seth Quinn calmly tossed away the broken incense. He turned and instructed Chase Childs, "Tell the purchasing department that Aegis isn’t short on cash. Don’t buy any more of this shoddy stuff and embarrass us."

His voice wasn’t loud, but it was cold and heavy, possessing an authority that required no anger. The staff member in charge of purchasing was so frightened he was on the verge of tears. God only knew he had bought the highest quality incense available; who the hell knew why it was breaking one stick after another?

Chase Childs nodded. "Yes, sir." He then took another three sticks of incense from a staff member who promptly offered them, lit them, and handed them to Seth Quinn.

This time, with everyone watching, Seth Quinn successfully placed the incense into the burner.

Afterward, he turned around, and uncharacteristically, the corner of his lip curled into a smile as he joked, "The quality of this incense is terrible. Don’t tell me I’m the only one whose sticks broke. If that’s true, how embarrassing for me."

If Faye Jennings had been confused before, she suddenly understood everything now. Seth Quinn was helping Clara Grant.

’The quality of the incense is terrible? He must have broken them himself, right?’

He did it to shut up those who were badmouthing Clara, to dispel the talk of her being a "bad omen for the crew," and to give her a way out of the awkward situation.

She never expected Seth Quinn to protect Clara Grant to such an extent!

’Could Clara really be that important to him?’

Faye Jennings’s brow furrowed deeper, and her gaze toward Clara Grant grew dark and menacing.

After a moment, her eyes shifted to a spot in the distance. She subtly nodded at a person hiding behind a large tree. The person nodded back and then disappeared.

Faye Jennings’s eyes turned cold. ’Hmph. Clara Grant, Seth Quinn can help you once or twice, but I refuse to believe he’ll help you unconditionally no matter what happens!’

At that moment, Clara Grant couldn’t be bothered to think about anything else. All she knew was that she needed to take the lifeline Seth Quinn had just thrown her.

She darted in front of Seth Quinn, the broken incense in her hand nearly poking him in the face. "Me, me, me! President Quinn, mine broke too!"

Her eyes, sparkling brightly, were fixed on him. She had never been so happy to see him show up unexpectedly.

Those who had been gloating or echoing Sandra’s malicious words to slander Clara Grant now watched her, standing so close to Seth Quinn, their hearts filled with envy.

’Why couldn’t my incense have been the one to break?’ they thought. ’I could have had a chance for an up-close-and-personal moment with my dreamboat, too.’

Seth Quinn watched Clara Grant hold up the broken sticks as if seeking praise, and he raised an eyebrow slightly. "Is that so? Then I guess we’re a pair of kindred spirits in misfortune."

Ugh, that sounded a bit suggestive. The way he was looking at her was a bit suggestive, too.

Clara Grant’s heart started to POUND. She was terrified he would accidentally expose their relationship.

She had just dispelled the rumors!

Her gaze darted around nervously. With an awkward laugh, she tossed the broken incense aside.

Fortunately, Seth Quinn didn’t say anything more. He simply instructed Chase Childs to get new incense for her. Only after she had offered it again did this part of the ceremony officially conclude.

"My, my. I wonder who it was just now who said broken incense is a bad omen. It seems our President Quinn is a bad omen himself," Miles Quinn said with a half-joking smile, the corners of his lips curling up.

Although Clara’s crisis was over, he clearly had no intention of letting those who had slandered her off the hook so easily.

"A bad omen? A bringer of misfortune?" Seth Quinn repeated softly, then let out a light chuckle. "Is that so?"
