Chapter 481: Homecoming

(Author’s POV)

"William, how much more time will it take?" Sandra asked, her phone sandwiched between her ear and shoulder as she was busy whisking the cream.

"Honey, we have just left the hospital, barely ten minutes ago. It will take some time," William answered patiently, his eyes on the road.

"You didn’t tell Myra about it, did you?" Sandra queried, her tone hushed.

Willian glanced sideways towards the passenger seat and said, fumbling a bit, "Hmm, I did not."

"Everything is almost prepared, and we are just waiting for you two. Drive safe, hmm," Sandra mumbled. "And, one more thing, don’t forget to call me five minutes before reaching the house, okay? OKAYYY~~~??"

"Ummhmm, I will, honey. Bye," William disconnected the call. He once again looked at Myra, who was occupying the passenger seat, looking out of the window. She seemed to be enjoying the scenery, or rather, lost in deep thought.

It took Myra just four days to recover and get permission to be discharged from the hospital. The doctors were dumbstruck. It was nothing short of a miracle. Yes, the injury on her head was still covered in fresh, clean bandages, but apart from that, every wound was healed. There wasn’t even any scarring left on her body. But it cannot be said about the scars that were imprinted in her subconscious by that brutal incident. It will definitely stay with her for a long, long time.

"Myra, what are you thinking? Are you comfortable anywhere? Are you nauseous? Should I drive slowly? Should we go back to the hospital?" William fired a flurry of questions. His tone filled with concern.

"I am doing fine, Dad. You can drive at your own pace," Myra spoke, her voice soft and gentle. For the past few days, she had been quiet, too quiet. Although most of her time, with no visitors allowed by William and Sandra, she spent the hours sleeping. But when she was awake, she wasn’t as talkative as before. She only spoke when she was asked something. Barely more than five to seven words at a time.

To see her like this, her parents got worried. They wanted her to get into therapy sessions, but Sandra suggested that they should first talk to Myra directly. And when they did, she just said, "I just feel tired all the time. I don’t need therapy; I just want to go home as soon as possible."

They thought the tiredness was because of her groggy state and her lying in the hospital all day. So, they dropped the idea of therapy for now.

But honestly, those dream sequences have been playing in Myra’s head, in her wake or in sleep. It has been pestering her, consuming most of her energy. So, she felt lethargic and sluggish all the time. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"Is there something on your mind, my child?" Willian questioned once again. "You can tell me freely. It will remain between us." He assured.

"Nothing, I just~ ... I just miss home," she mumbled. "Anyways, what was Mom saying?" she asked.

"Your mom, she~ .... she has been calling me nonstop since morning. Asking when we will arrive. My call log is flooded with her name," William said playfully.

"That sounds romantic, hehe. But, didn’t you tell her I was getting discharged in the afternoon?" Myra inquired.

"I did, but~ ... she wanted to know because of the preparat~ .... *cough, cough* I mean, your mother is just too excited for your return," William was just about to spout about the surprise, but he covered it up smoothly.

*Inside the Miracles’ house*

"Sis Yel~ ... sis Nor? Is anyone there?" Wendy’s voice echoed as she shouted from inside her room.

"What is it, Wends?" Both Yelena and Nora asked in unison.

"Can either of you help me with this balloon arch?" Wendy asked. "It keeps wobbling. This is very tricky to hold on to."

"Coming~~~~ just gimme a minute," Yelena replied. She and Nora were busy tying up ribbons beneath the balloons that were hanging from the ceiling.

A pop sound followed as Nora said, "You go help Wendy. I can do this alone." She was standing on the ladder while Yelena was helping her with providing what was needed.

"You sure, you will?" Yelena wanted confirmation.

"Ummhmm~ ... go ahead," was Nora’s reply. Getting the green signal, Yelena hurried towards Wendy, who was literally tussling with the decorative half arch. Quite a few of them popped on their own when she tried to fix them."

"Wends, babe, you overinflated the balloons, that’s why they keep bursting. Let me do this," Yelena took it from her hands and set it up.

"Wendyyyyyy~~~~~~" Sandra’s voice sounded next. "Come here and taste this for me."

"Go and help Aunt Sandra. I will be done here in a jiffy," Yelena urged her.

Wendy jogged her way to the kitchen and asked, "What do you want me to taste, Mom?"

"The cream~ .... I tasted it, but you do it once. Tell me how’s the sugariness?" Sandra extended a spoon towards her, which Wendy gladly took. "Mom, this is puuuurrfffectttooooo~ .... Just like how sis likes it. Not too sugary, not too bland. Accurate. *chef’s kiss*." Then she took Sandra’s hands and said dramatically, "These hands of yours are precious pieces of artwork. Anything you touch turns into gold, your highness."

Sandra hit her forehead with the same spoon playfully and said, "Stop exaggerating. Ahaaa~ .... Is the living room decoration finished yet?"

"Just some final touches," Wendy conveyed. "Have Dad and sis left the hospital?"

"They are on their way. After being done with the living room, go and get ready. Ask Yelena and Nora to do the same." Sandra said, looking at her outfit. Wendy was in a plain white see-through tee and blue cotton shorts. Of course, with no bra on, because no one wears one in their own home. Her hair were done in a messy bun, but it looked more like some bird’s nest right now. All in all, her appearance was messy.

"Uhhh~ ... get ready? This works completely fine," she replied casually.

"It may be fine amongst us. But all the other guests will be arriving soon," Sandra said. "Go and get changed into something nice."

"Other guests? I thought there was only us. Why didn’t I know about that?" Wendy questioned, with a look mixed with confusion and bewilderment.

"Nora’s brothers, Fabian and a few other people are coming," Sandra told her while taking the cake out of the oven.

"Huhhh? WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME ABOUT THIS BEFORE?" Wendy yelled, flustered.

Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell. And the next second, she heard Nora’s voice, "Elio, you came right on time."

Wendy’s eyes widened as she mumbled, while looking at her clothing, "Shit~ .... I need to change fast. Can’t let him see me like this?" She ducked and zapped her way through to the living room, sprinting up the stairs.

"Hey, Wend~~~y~ ...." Elio greeted, but Wendy was too busy running and hiding her face that she didn’t reply.

"Did I do something wrong? Why did she run away like that after seeing me?" Elio asked in confusion.

"Aunt Sandra must have given her some tasks. She will be down soon," Nora said. "Why did you come alone? Where are others?" she looked behind him while asking.

"They will be here soon," he said while rolling his sleeves. "Tell me what I can help you with."
