Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 88: I Plead Innocent, Your Highness
[RANIA]
"Alpha Kim Rania, the court demands to see you this instant," a voice suddenly said to Rania, one voice she had known so well that she would identify in her sleep.
It was however a pity that their relationship had been reduced to this, but maybe it was the only option they were left with. The whole of Obren had been waiting for justice for Yanna for the past five years and now, they were going to get it.
"Okay, young prince, let’s go, shall we?" Rania said to Jungwoo who wasn’t even batting an eye. He was still hurt by the fact that Rania had killed his older sister. He should have been there to protect her, but then the kingship and Nathaniel just had to come in between.
The sister Rania so despised was the very reason the two best friends were on opposite sides of the law, for the first time in so long, and maybe this was how Rania wanted it, but was it really?
Jungwoo was the first to leave the room, as Rania changed into the clothes the maid had gotten her. She didn’t mind being executed, but she hoped they would do it fast enough, before Dalrae came to the palace, because Rania knew her best friend so well.
Dalrae was pissed at her for moving forward the trial, but she was never going to leave Rania to suffer alone if anything, Han Seong’s sudden appearance had Lim Dalrae written over it. The woman was Rania’s guardian angel, and Rania loved her for that.
Done with her dressing, Kim Rania walked out of the room she had been held in, and followed the prince. She could smell the fresh air, but the whispers that were hitting her ear weren’t exactly pleasant.
But even then she wasn’t going to change their mind about why she had murdered Yanna. If anything, she would remind them as she always did, that she wasn’t going to regret taking Yanna’s life, even if it was like her greatest achievement.
Which raised the question of what Yanna really did to her.
Of course, everyone was convinced that Rania did it because of Jihoon, but then the alpha didn’t have much for Rania to desire, not to mention the fact that Rania was not even willing to oust the man and be the calindra alpha anyway.
So what was it that had made her murder the young Calindra Luna then?
"If you keep staring at me, I’ll wring your necks and use them for my pillow," Rania said to the wolves who were openly staring at her, and called her names.
As if they believed what Rania had just said, the wolves turned their heads away, but the stares persisted. Not even when Rania walked into the Obren throne room, a place so familiar that she almost felt like she was home.
Maybe because she had caused more trouble than anyone could ever fathom and was never once surprised that she was summoned here again. Well, this time was different because she made sure to bring herself here, but damn, it was one hell of a competition.
"Justice for Yanna!" The chants began outside, when they confirmed Rania was already in the throne room.
They had been too scared to chant when she was passing because they all ew the psycho alpha never forgot faces and they didn’t want to be on her hit list when the luna trial was done.
"Cowards," Rania said as she stared at the council that was waiting for her.
There was a table next to the king’s throne and around it were eight of the elite werewolves. They were the members of the royal council and without a doubt, the advisors of the king, Rania wondered what they had advised their king today.
Hopefully not to free her, because once Rania was free, then no charges would be pinned against her, especially with regard to Yanna and the whole Luna trial.
On the left side sat the alphas who had come to witness the trial, and expectedly, Park Jihoon of Calindra was the first on the line. He was with his beta and other alphas who had come too.
On the other side were the guards of the alphas, who were ready to strike down Kim Rania if she so much as tried to attack their alphas.
Well, Rania loved the thrill that came with danger and a part of her was tempted to cause trouble just to see what they would do to her, but then her eyes met Dalrae, and all thoughts left her mind.
However, Dalrae hadn’t even arrived yet, but the illusion was keeping Rania sane. She hoped that Dalrae would stay away, but she also knew that with Han Seong here, it was just a matter of time before the woman who owned Rania’s sanity showed up.
On the throne seats were the royal family.
The king looked at Rania curiously. Like he wanted to know what Rania was planning this time.
The queen, as usual, was glaring at Rania though she was also aware that the woman could easily strangle the life out of her and get away with it.
Besides them was the royal prince, the best friend Rania had lost because of Yanna, and while that didn’t hurt even in the least bit.
Rania felt like this was the last time they would be seeing each other with the prince. It was all so determined but she wasn’t worried. Prince Jungwoo was alive and that was all that mattered to her.
She could figure out the rest later, when the damning trial was done and until then she would be the culprit that was despised by the whole of Obren, not that she cried even in the least bit.
"I’m here now, aren’t I?" Rania said when she noticed everyone in the room was staring at her like she had come from some horror.
She wasn’t even bothered by the stares, if anything she wanted them to do whatever they wanted and for her to be free or dead. Whichever worked for them, she was more than ready to accept it. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Silence!" The king roared and Rania just smirked at him. She had no regard for his authority whatsoever.
This king was supposed to protect his people but this very king had failed to protect her when she needed him the most. So if she was going to go all psycho on him, she didn’t have anything holding her back anymore. She had nothing left to lose anyway.
"Greetings, we are here for the Luna trial. Kim Rania, you stand accused of murdering the Calindra luna, how do you plead?" one of the royal council members spoke once everyone was silent and the setup was complete.
Rania was standing before them and she was not cuffed or anything. Somehow the wolves here were worried about her lashing out and they figured she’d be free here. After all, she was the one who had agreed to the Luna trial.
She had promised she would tell them the truth about what had happened that day, but as she looked at them, Rania knew they were stupid to have trusted her. And Han Seong could tell that, just by the smirk on Rania’s face.
Once again, they were in for a fool’s errand, but were they?
"I didn’t quite get the question, could you please be louder? My ears are somewhat clogged with dust from sleeping in the cold nights. If you don’t mind that is," Rania said nonchalantly, the temptation to sit down so great that she gave in.
Maybe it was a good thing that there was a chair for her there, otherwise, it would have been a whole chaotic scene if she hadn’t.
"You stand accused of murdering Yanna Park, Luna of Calindra and mate of Park Jihoon the calindra alpha. How do you plead?" the leader asked again and this time, Rania looked around the throne room. She could see the desperation on Jihoon’s face.
It was more like he wanted justice for Yanna but didn’t know how to get it. He wished there was something more he could have done for his mate, but then it wasn’t like time had ever been on his side.
Prince Jungwoo was on the edge of his seat, waiting to hear what Rania had to say in front of the officials and the wolves who were here. Granted, Rania was never scared of anyone, but there was comfort in knowing that she had wanted this, but would they really accept her plea?
"Not guilty. I plead innocent, your highness."
