Chapter 87: Maybe Goodbyes Weren’t As Bad

[RANIA]

"I’m sorry, what?" Rania asked as she sat up, to look at Han Seong who was staring right back at her.

"It’s the day of the tr—" Han began stating the obvious but Rania wasn’t having any of that.

"What the fuck did you do and why was I asleep for twenty-five fucking hours? Are you fucking insane?!" Rania said as she glared at Han who was shrugging like he hadn’t probably made himself the target of the worst friend Karma had ever had.

"Dan, your mouth might need some cleansing, kid. I cast a healing spell, and I may have added a few sleeping spells. I didn’t know you’d sleep like a pregnant cow though," Han said like it was the most normal thing.

When he had met Rania on her way to Obren, Han had done the very thing Rania had forbidden all her allies.

For starters, he had listened to her pain and showed up for her that was against the plans Rania had made with her people. She had told them to stay away no matter how broken she sounded.

None of them were to help her, because if they did, they could easily be blamed for every horrible decision Kim Rania ever made. The woman was a psycho, but she was determined to protect the few that loved her for who she really was.

Secondly, Han had taken away her pain and fixed her. The sleeping spell was to allow Rani’s body to recuperate and for her to gain more strength.

Han knew Rania wanted to be executed so badly that she was willing to be at her weakest and talk shit to the crown and the royal council. That way, Rania would have had the simplest route to her execution, but her friends refused that. They couldn’t have that.

"You people never listen to me," Rania growled out angrily, but she knew that it wouldn’t affect Han, because she wasn’t exactly angry with Han, but with the whole situation.

"Now what?" Rania asked as she paced around the room, having figured that her pretense to sleep wasn’t going to do her any good. She was already on the clock here and with Han staying with her in the same room, there had to be suspicions.

"We wait for them to call you," Han said before adding, "Jungwoo should be the one to come for you here. I heard him tell the servants to be ready to shoot you with the arrows or kill you if you so much as tried to harm anyone.

"Why did you make him do that, Rani?"

Han was always curious about why Rania had intentionally ruined her relationship with Jungwoo, but she had always turned it down, which was why Han wasn’t expecting an answer from her, at least not a straight one.

"Friends fall out. I told him his mother was a bitch and his father a coward. And him, I called him a weak puppet for letting himself get captured. And well, you know me, I didn’t use the kindest of words, so he got mad.

"But it’s the truth though, I just don’t get why people find it hard to face the truth," Rania shrugged dismissively as she walked to the window. She wasn’t sure where she was currently in, but as she looked out of the obren palace window, she could tell that she was in the alpha chambers.

Funny how even in her execution, Han had made sure she got the room she deserved, considering her stature in the society.

Outside the castle, Rania could see wolves walking around, whispering about the luna trial. It seemed like a big deal for them, but she could also sense the fear in their voices.

For wolves who were determined to see how the trial was going to go, they seemed too determined to stay away from the chambers where the Luna trial would be taking place.

They knew Rania would probably snap their necks in anger, and while that was something Rania would most probably do, this time, she wanted a peaceful trial. She wasn’t looking for trouble so she would just do what she had come to do, and then let herself go.

"Okay, your highness. I have to go now. Please don’t kill anyone today. It would make everyone be against you, even worse than they already are," Han said and Rania stopped staring at the window, and turned to Han.

She was wearing a creepy smile, like she didn’t mind killing everyone, and once again Han had to try and figure out a way.

"No. No. Absolutely not, Rani."

"Why not?"

"Because I’ll tell on you to Dalrae," Han retorted so fast that Rania paused her steps. She had left Dalrae and not said a word to her best friend. She knew Dalrae deserved better than her, but this was the only way to make sure they all were safe.

She didn’t want Dalrae to get herself in unnecessary danger, but right now it seemed like it was the only thing that could hold Rania back.

"You relay hit low sometimes, you old witch," Rania said with a pout.

"What can I say, Rani? We love you and you find ways to push us away. If I have to play dirty, sweetheart, I will. Try not to kill anyone, or I’ll pull the obvious," Han said with a smile before he walked out of the room, leaving Rania in her thoughts again.

Sighing, she walked towards the window again, to look at the palace. It was a beautiful place, but it kinda hurt, that right now they all were scared of her.

Rania knew she wasn’t a monster, but to survive all three rejections she had gone through, she had been forced to be one.

All she had been before this, was a girl who had real friends, who rallied for her more than once. Friends who loved her without thinking twice. Sure, she was the next alpha, but that never mattered to them, because Rania was just a girl like them.

She had one of the beautiful smiles in Incayon. She was loved by everyone, and had everything she wanted. Her parents loved her like every parent would their child and they did whatever it took to see their little girl happy.

Dalrae had always been her best friend, but that didn’t mean Rani was a loner. Life before Rania hit sixteen was the life of every normal girl in every loving household. People wanted their children to be mated to her someday, and there wasn’t any pressure.

’I used to be happy, maybe it was all never meant to be,’ Rania thought to herself as she saw the children running around. They looked like they didn’t have to worry about the burden of the kingdom ever. They looked so happy and Rania envied them.

She wished she would get back what she had lost, but a lot of time had already passed. She had always been a happy child, but then a week before her sweet sixteen, everything changed so drastically in her circles.

She watched those that loved her, pull away. She watched herself become a loner, barely days to one of the happiest days of any werewolf princess. She suddenly became a sight for sore eyes, but no one ever told her to her face.

She had people who loved her, but that week, Rania only had Dalrae, but it wasn’t because Dalrae pitied her, no. Someone had managed to pit everyone against Rania in a week, including her parents.

They suddenly didn’t want her anymore, and Rania knew it had to be magic. She knew someone had cast a spell on the whole of Incayon, one that would have diverse impacts, even after it was reversed.

Rania didn’t know why that had happened, but fuck, she knew it was the beginning of her hell, and she had to survive, at least until she found out who was behind it all.

When Rania made the decision to walk to Obren alone, despite the road being so harsh, she knew who had pushed her into that state.

She knew the perpetrator, and yet instead of going all psycho, she was here, sitting tight, waiting for an atrial that wasn’t even supposed to exist in the first palace. But what choice did Ranai have anyway? She had pleaded guilty already, not that they would have believed her if she denied the charges.

"Alpha Kim Rania, the court demands to see you this instant."
