Chapter 81: In Which The Vampire King Joins The Battle

[DRARUN]

"Give me fifty of your rogues, specifically, those who were rejected from Incayon. They are the ones with a higher probability of wanting Kim Rania dead. I know there has to be a number, given how cruel Kim Rania is known to be.

"So lend me 50 of them for a week, and I’ll give you Altunia. I won’t have them for longer than a week, besides, the operation could last even three days, Paloma. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"I won’t ask for much, my dear friend," Nathaniel said as he looked into the eyes of his old friend, the woman who had saved his daughter, and also the woman who had protected the love of his life.

There was so much Nathaniel needed to know but time wasn’t on their side. They couldn’t chit-chat about the old times, especially not now, when Jihoon had come to seek for his help to make sure Rania didn’t escape the trials.

"Altunia?" Paloma asked, looking at the king like he had grown a different head.

Altunia was the literal heaven. The land where everything was plenty but also the land where no race occupied. Sure, it was owned by the vampires, but it had no occupancy.

For Nathaniel to offer Paloma that land, he had to be determined, and for a moment there Paloma was happy. Not because she would have Altunia, but because this time, Nathaniel was trying to step up to find justice for the daughter he had failed.

He was finally being the man he should have been for Yanna and Eunbi.

"Yes, the very land that everyone wants. My vampires aren’t using it, even though it’s a rich land. Just lend me 50 of them, Paloma, and I will give it to you now," the king said desperately as he looked at the papers beside him.

It was almost like he was prepared to stake everything if it meant fighting for his daughter. Oh, how he would have loved his daughter had she been alive. Fate was cruel, for letting him do this a little too late.

"If you go back on your word?" Paloma asked, knowing so well that this deal was a little too good.

If anything, it sounded like an insane offer for a dying king. Well, Nathaniel wasn’t dying, but he wanted to make things right. He was determined and that could have been his greatest flaw or his greatest achievement. Only time would tell.

"I won’t. You know it, Paloma. Just say yes and I’ll get the papers signed over to you now, and you can go with them to Altunia as soon as tomorrow. Just lend me fifty of them. They won’t die, I promise," the king said, trying to convince Paloma.

The war with Rania was without a doubt an insane one considering there were people who went against her and had never been found to this day. Going against Rania was worse than the pier that Nathaniel used to burn traitors.

She was the queen of insanity and right now she was the danger looming over all of them. They all just had to try and make it through, alive.

"Not even a hair on them?"

"You know they will go to Incayon, and they may get hurt, but none will die, I swear it," the king said, stating the obvious in the event of war.

"Fine, but if they are murdered, I will come for you, and you know how uncontrolled angry ferals can be, right?" Paloma reminded Nathaniel, almost like he didn’t know that making a deal with Paloma was one of the craziest things he had ever done since he became the king of Drarun.

Sure, he was the heartless king, but right now, he wasn’t negotiating with Paloma as a king. Right now, Nathaniel was a father of a dead child.

"Jeez woman, just say yes," Nate sighed, having known that she would give in. Of course she would. She had no reason to distrust Nathaniel. The only thing the man ever did wrong was betraying the bond between Eunbi and Seojoon. Other than that, they were good friends.

"Yes, now bring the damn papers, I need to go back home," Paloma said and the king called for officer Kang who had to watch the rogues be given the Altunia territory. It was an insane agreement, but officer Kang trusted his king, and he was more than willing to go over the cliff for Nathaniel.

When the agreement was done, Paloma knew that Rania would be in danger, but she had already sent her a message earlier. Altunia was way too good an offer and her wolves wouldn’t be called rogues anymore. And they wouldn’t have to move around the nation all the time.

"Goodbye, Nathaniel," Paloma said once they were done before adding, "the rogues you need, will be at the gates of Drarun by nightfall. Remember your promise, and I hope we don’t wage a war between our people."

"Thank you, Paloma. I will never forget this," the king said before getting up and walking Paloma to the door. The warriors who were at the doors instantly got up out of respect and they watched as the king walked Paloma and her horse to the gates.

They were chitchatting, laughing, almost like they had been best friends forever, and maybe they were. Maybe society was just making it hard for them, but at the end of the day, they had bonds that kept them sane.

As Paloma bid her final goodbyes to Nathaniel, she hoped her friend would get closure and hoped that everything would be alright. On the other hand, she was worried about Kim Rania. She wanted to tell Rania that danger was coming, but Rania was smart.

She already knew who Yanna was, even before her mate knew who she was. She could take care of herself, but Paloma’s only worry was that Rania would probably be overwhelmed. She wondered whether she would fight alone, or let her dalrae help her.

There were so many maybes, so many questions, and the only thing Paloma could do other than hope, was to pray for Kim Rania’s safety. The girl deserved all the love in the world, but no one was willing to give it to her, and those who were, were conveniently pushed away by Rania.

Oh, how she was suffering in the name of love.

Back at Drarun, Nathaniel sent a raven to Calindra. It had the message that park Jihoon, the alpha of Calindra had been hoping for, since he had sent Zhervos to the land of the undead. The message was the reminder that no matter what happened, calindra would always have the backup of Drarun.

Funny how wolves and vampires spited each other, and yet in this great battle against the psychotic woman, they were willing to set their differences aside.

King Nathaniel was determined to make things right, which was also why when he saw fifty rogues at his gates, he knew it was time to get the trials hastened.

Luna trial or not, he would make sure that Rania knew never to mess with his daughter again. If he had known earlier, he could have saved his daughter, but he had been too late, but what if?
