Chapter 70: After-Party Effects

[RANIA]

Daehyun looked at the woman who had just fallen asleep and for the first time, since he met Rania, he wasn’t sure whether he needed to use the silver syringe he was holding.

He had come to inject a load of silver into Rania’s system, so she would be incapacitated and deemed unfit for the alpha role in Incayon. It was a bold move and he knew that if he was caught, the whole of Calindra would possibly pay the price.

But he had still come anyway.

However, now, he was contemplating. Taking a few steps back, the Calindra beta faltered as he tried to make sense of what Kim Rania had just said in her sleep. It was obvious that whatever she had said was meant to be a secret, but would Daehyun respect that?

If anything, there was a chance that Rania was just hallucinating, right?

Maybe it was a part of her subconscious, no?

There were so many thoughts lingering in Daehyun’s mind, but he knew that none of that would make any sense. He, just like everyone in Obren, knew Rania was a psychotic nutjob. So why the hell was she showing restraint, and that too in her sleep?

"What if we were wrong?" Daehyun whispered, and at that moment Rania turned, making Daehyun almost jump out of his skin. He knew so well that if Rania saw him here with the syringe she would kill him and ask questions later, because he was endangering Dalrae.

Lim Daehyun froze, like he was waiting for his death at the hands of the woman, but then he noticed that she had fallen back asleep. He figured that was his cue to make a run for it because if she found him, he wouldn’t have a defense.

"Fuck, that was so close," Daehyun said as he hurried outside, not even noticing the woman who had been staring at him all this while. He was screwed, he just didn’t know it yet.

The following morning, the party was still on and the wolves didn’t look the least bit tired. That was the thing with Obren ceremonies. They always took a day and a half, with the half day being for the wolves to get over their hangovers.

Daehyun was still thinking about what he had heard Rania say and was conflicted once again. So when he saw Rania and Dalrae walk out of the palace, the Calindra beta made sure to not be seen by them.

He didn’t want any affiliation with Rania, because he wanted to think about what he had heard and there was just no chance he would succeed if he didn’t focus. But then that was all just a wish, considering he was dragged back in their direction when Jihoon showed up.

"Morning Daehyun, I feel like shit, damn," Jihoon complained as he dragged his beta to the breakfast spot.

They were both hungry and needed to get some in their stomachs. There was a lot they would need to focus on before the day ended, and they wouldn’t succeed if they looked like zombies out of the damned afterlife.

"Oh yeah, tell me about it. You spent your night doing acrobatics and drinking like it was your last day on earth. You were wasted real bad brother," Daehyun said, his voice making it known to Jihoon that he had screwed up last night.

"Well, it was a fun night, you gotta admit that," Jihoon responded gleefully despite the splitting headache he was experiencing. He was determined to be happy today. After all, he had succeeded in getting everyone’s attention back on Kim Rania.

She would pay for what she did and that was something that Jihoon wanted to celebrate every second of the day.

Rania and Dalrae were already at the breakfast spot and as usual, Rania was babying Dalrae and the other way around. If no one knew their relationship, it could have been easier to assume they were mates, considering they were both ready to take the blows for each other.

"I don’t want to drink this, Rania," Dalrae whined and Rania just looked at her, a permanent smirk on her face like she was telling Dalrae that this was her punishment for wilding last night. She needed to be okay considering the road back to Incayon was long, even if they had horses.

"Oh really now. Last I checked, you weren’t complaining last night sister dearest when you were too busy competing with the men on who would drink the most, no?" Rania said, not pulling her hand away from Dalrae’s face.

In her hand was a cup of the tonic used to beat the hangover, and it was terrible, though a very effective drink if she was to get over the past night fast.

"You know it tastes like dead people soup, I don’t wanna," Dalrae pouted and Rania wasn’t about to give in anytime soon, even though she was hung over too. Instead, she just laughed at her sister who was determined to find a way out of the tonic, but was there any?

"And how would you know that, miss Lim? Don’t tell me you’ve been drinking dead people’s soup now, hmm?" Rania said before adding, "my hand is getting tired and I’m not putting this down unless you take it."

Seeing as there was no running away from this, Dalrae took the tonic and drank it all in one gulp, while pouting at Rania who was just enjoying this.

"I hate you, Rani," Dalrae whined at the bitter and horrible taste of the tonic. She felt like puking it out, but she knew so well that Rania would force her to drink another. So she decided once was safer than taking that shit twice.

"I love you too, now let’s get out of here and go home alright," Rania said but Dalrae interrupted her.

"What the hell is he doing here?" Dalrae asked, her tone going from the soft one she was using with Rani, to a tone so cold that Rania had to look at her beta and in the direction she was glaring at.

"Who?" Rania asked, like she wasn’t seeing anything that could have caught Dalrae’s attention.

"The devil’s son, stupid Jihoon," Dalrae said, not even daring to hide her spite for the man who had made her best friend’s life a little difficult. Dalrae knew Rania had her reasons for murdering Yanna and at the center of it, she was sure Jihoon was there.

She just needed to know why Rania hated Jihoon so much, but until then, she would support Rania, even if that resulted in the two of them being banished. She didn’t mind. Rania told her everything, but the only thing that Kim Rania had never told her, was why she had killed Yanna.

Dalrae had figured it was for her safety, but she was having other thoughts too. One thing she was sure of, was that Rania was well within her rights for whatever outrageous things she did.

"Oh him? Pretend he doesn’t exist. Now come along love, we can eat on the way home," Rania said but Dalrae was adamant. She put down the cup that she had drunk from and walked to where Jihoon and Daehyun were.

"Look what we have here."
