Chapter 69: I’m Safest With You

[RANIA]

"I really hope we get the answers we need. I just want to be at peace, after knowing the truth. Maybe it will put an end to everything that has been going on in Obren lately.

"If she is guilty then we will all live free lives and never have to worry about what Rania would do to us in the night, don’t you think? That woman is dangerous, probably even to herself, and this was the only way to get the answers anyway," Jihoon said and Daehyun just sighed.

It was a risk that they had to take. Having Rania that free and untouched was sending everyone a different message. It was like the whole of Obren was encouraging their wolves to be a raging bunch of uncontrollable psychos who had little regard for life.

"Well, we gotta begin mobilizing the people to make sure this matter does not disappear like all the times we tried reaching out to the king and the matter never got any attention. The prince will surely want to help since you saved him and all," Daehyun said and Jihoon nodded.

They needed to act fast, because if they didn’t, then Rania would probably scare all the werewolves in Obren and if that happened, there was no knowing what she would do and if there would ever be a justice system for them.

"She seemed too comfortable with being put on the stand. I swear, that woman creeps me out," Daehyun added as they watched the rest of the wolf party.

The night wasn’t going to be long, but tomorrow would either be the beginning of their hell, or it would be the reason they all never got to see daylight.

"She’s Rania, of course, everything about her creeps the fuck out of everyone," Jihoon said and Daehyun just sighed before making a suggestion that would probably land them in trouble.

"What if we talk to Dalrae, she surely knows something, right?"

At the mention of Dalrae, Rania looked at Daehyun and Jihoon. She had been listening to any and all conversations that had anything to do with Dalrae and she had caught on to Jihoon’s conversation. They really wanted to saddle the muddy waters?

Were they not worried about what the greatest psycho would do to them? Of course, everyone knew that would happen, but still the whole idea of Daehyun even thinking of it was insane. He was aware of the consequences.

"Are you crazy? Maybe you’ve been too relaxed since Rania hasn’t done anything erratic yet," Jihoon said frustratedly. He couldn’t believe that his beta wanted to take that risk. It was never going to be worth it, and he knew it.

"What, it’s just a suggestion. Maybe Dalrae can tell us about the war, or maybe she knows why Rania attacked the luna. Maybe if we know that, we can have evidence against Rania," Daehyun insisted and Jihoon ran his fingers through his hair.

He looked good when he did that and the women around him, who were hoping to be his next lunas smiled and swooned over him. He couldn’t do shit right now, other than try to pump some sense into his trusted beta, before he led them all to their unfortunate deaths.

"I’ll just say this once. Leave Dalrae alone. We have already told the prince about the petition, and he will listen to us. We can gather evidence on our own without involving her.

"Having her on the opposite team is impossible, not to mention it will make Rania want us gone even more. So let’s try to keep our heads on our necks, yeah?" Jihoon said and his beta just nodded.

He could tell that Jihoon was trying to avoid a confrontation with Rania. If that happened, all their plans would go to waste and the justice they were seeking for Yanna would all be far from their reach.

They needed to act like the people who were wronged, not the bastards who were willing to go against the laws of their own lands. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Fuck, she’s been watching us all this while," Daehyun suddenly gasped when his eyes met Rania’s, and boy were her eyes fiery. She could have easily passed for the devil reincarnate. Well, she was a monster, one they had created, right?

"Let’s enjoy the party," Jihoon said before dragging him to the other side of the party.

"Goodness Rani, I’m so tired. Let’s go home?" Dalrae said to Kim Rania who had been watching her and watching out for her.

She had drunk a lot of beer like she was trying to win a damned drinking competition. Her best friend looked like she had had too much to drink and was about to pass out.

"No, I’m too tired to drag your ass through the lands to Incayon. We’ll sleep in the palace. There were rooms set up for alphas. We’ll find the one meant for me, and you can sleep there, alright?

"I promise, tomorrow, we’ll go home," Rania said to Dalrae who looked at her with a pout. She looked cute as fuck and Rania held back the urge to play with her cheeks. This woman right here was the only reason she hadn’t gone insane and completely burned Obren to the ground.

She was her savior and she would always be thankful to her for that.

"But what if they try killing you?" Dalrae asked and Rania let out a laugh. She couldn’t seriously be wasted and thinking of Rania’s safety, no?

"You’ll protect me, remember? I am safe as long as you’re with me," Rania said, even though the opposite was true. Maybe she meant that her sanity was safe as long as Dalrae was around, because if she wasn’t, then there was no hope for a future in Obren anyway.

"Yes, I’ll protect you from everyone who tries to hurt you. Let’s go to sleep, you need to get some rest and heal," Dalrae said and Rania sighed. Her best friend was really drunk tonight. So nodding, she walked in the direction of the alphas’ rooms.

Kim Rania didn’t need protection, but there were guides in the hallways. The hallways were long and with Dalrae on her back, Rania wanted to put her on the ground so they could sleep on the floor together. If anything, they were too wasted.

Ten agonizing minutes, later the best friends reached their destination. The wolves assigned to them were too scared to even say anything, and so Rania dismissed them.

"You can leave now. No one will try laying a finger on me. Plus I’ll take care of her," she said and the guards looked at her skeptically. They knew who she was and how she dealt with people, so when she looked at them a second time, they figured it was time for them to leave.

With the guards gone, Rania dragged Dalrae to their bed and undressed her, before tucking her in. She was sleeping in her pants and a baggy shirt that Rania always carried with her for Dalrae’s sake.

She knew how to take care of her only sister and best friend and she would always be there for her. Rania didn’t care to lock the door, because there was no point when everyone wanted to kill her.

If they wanted her gone, they could just come and try their luck, but that was too dangerous a thought for anyone who was in their right mind anyway.

"And to think you were the one warning me against drinking," Rania lovingly whispered to her best friend softly, as she pushed the strands of Dalrae’s hair from her face.

Dalrae was already asleep, but Rania couldn’t sleep. So she was keeping guard. However, soon enough Rania fell asleep, thanks to her fatigue and her ability to drink without getting drunk. She was a heavy sleeper, but this time, she didn’t care one bit.

While Rania and Dalrae were sleeping, Daehyun walked into Rania and Dalrae’s room, probably to try and kill Rania, but what he heard, stopped him from even making a step.

"No— I can’t tell him because Calindra will go against Obren for me. It’s too dangerous—" Rania whispered in her sleep before she fell back asleep again, leaving a shocked Calindra beta with more questions than the possible solution he had come to provide for his people.

What the hell just happened?
