Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 67: The Last Of The White Flags
[RANIA]
"I believe we need to talk."
"Took you long enough," Rania said, as she watched Dalrae interact with the wolves. She knew this was probably the beginning of her last days, and she wouldn’t waste it looking at the person who would be taking it away from her.
She knew what was coming, so she didn’t even try to do anything, she would just be herself; the Rania everyone knew, and maybe then, Jungwoo would finally know that she had truly changed and that life wasn’t the same anymore.
"Why did you do it?" Jungwoo asked, walking to Rania’s front.
If she wouldn’t turn to look at him, then he would walk before her and see for himself if there was any remorse in her eyes. However, it seemed like he already knew what to expect because when he saw no remorse in Rania’s eyes, he wasn’t even shocked.
"I didn’t like her, so I killed her. Besides, she was mated to Jihoon, and what better way to teach him a lesson, right? I must admit, I knew she was the hybrid of Obren.
"She should have been harder to kill, but what they did was unforgivable, so I found her poison, and killed her during one of the pack wars, as a lesson to them all," Rania said, slowly sipping the beer that she had at hand.
She hadn’t expected warm welcomes anyway, after all, she was here because the alphas were needed and she so happened to be the reigning alpha of Incayon.
"Yeah, yeah, heard that same story from Jihoon," Jungwoo said before adding, "I bet you figured that when you sent me in his direction, no? Anyway, tell me something Rania, what happened?"
"We grew up, Jungwoo, and life wasn’t as kind as we all had thought when we were kids. The sky wasn’t always blue, the rains weren’t always happy, and the sunshine didn’t exactly want to bring happiness.
"The sight of people never brought happiness, instead, somehow, life gave us the first gist of betrayal and the true nature of the beasts we were made into.
"I guess I just embraced my beast side over my human side, save for that one girl dancing over there," Rania said to Jungwoo and the prince knew she was talking about Dalrae. It was insane how she was dangerous, and still managed to live for the sake of her friend.
"Is she your mate?" Jungwoo asked, even though he already had a hint of what it was.
"No. Honestly, If she was my mate, maybe I wouldn’t have turned out like this, being the horror everyone in Obren despises, even my parents. But as Jihoon may have already told you, she is my only link to humanity, and if cut off, then may the goddess have mercy on Obren.
"Anyway, aren’t you going to give me threats now that I killed someone you’ve been looking for for years? Aren’t you going to bring me to the council and put me up for the trial? Trust me, everyone wants to see me there, but none of them has ever come to ask it of me. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"I guess they are cowards for some reason," Rania said as she poured herself some beer. She loved the happiness on Dalarae’s face and while Lim Dalrae was worried about Rania, Rania had made herself clear that Lim Lim was to enjoy the night and what came from it.
"Heyy Rani. How many have you drunk?" Dalrae said once she excused herself from the dancefloor and came to where her friends were standing.
"Not enough to get me drunk. I wonder how much I gotta drink to get myself blackout drunk. That would make it easier for the whole of Obren to eliminate me, oww!" Rania cried out when Dalrae smacked her head.
The woman hadn’t even acknowledged the presence of the crown prince and that was just proof that she already knew what was happening.
"Hello Woo, you look dashing," Dalrae finally greeted Jungwoo, and then turned to Rania, "you can only drink three more. If you drink more than three after this, I’ll drag your ass to Incayon and we all know I’m not bluffing. Anyway, gotta get back to the dance floor, see ya."
"She’s a darling, isn’t she?" Rania said to Jungwoo once Dalrae was gone. She knew it was strange how they had managed to get along even when the whole of Incayon and Obren despised her.
"That she is. And to answer your questions or rather inquiries. I can’t be friends with you, Rani, you already know that though. I needed my sister and you took her from me, and for some reason, you refuse to tell anyone why you truly did it.
"I have to get justice for my sister, so the moment I walk away, do know that I will come after you, and make you pay for taking her from me, though by now I assume you already know I won’t be alone in this.
"So get ready to fight back Rani, or it won’t be any fun, alright?" Jungwoo said in a clipped and disappointed tone.
However, when he looked around and saw his parents staring at him and Rani, the crown prince wore a pretty smile, one that was enough to convince everyone that they were truly good friends.
Well, they had been but as Rania had explained, life had a way of making beautiful things shitty.
"Of course, I expect you all to come at me in full force. Do whatever you want with me, just make sure you don’t break the golden rule, otherwise, I don’t care how many of you will be coming after me.
"I will kill you all, even if it’s the last thing I do," Rania said casually, equally smiling, and laughing in the process. She was even smacking Jungwoo’s huge muscles like they were having the time of their lives, when in reality they were saying goodbye to their friendship.
"Well then, I believe this is goodbye to our friendship alright. And thank you for coming after me," Jungwoo said earnestly, the sincerity in his voice making Rania let out a small smile, before bursting his bubble one last time.
"Yup, this is goodbye. The next time we meet will be as leaders of Obren, given that you can’t come at me directly because of Yanna. Anyway, I wish you all the best, and may the best warrior win.
"It’s good that you’re smart enough to know that I won’t be sitting by and waiting for you people to beat me up, right? And about coming for you in Drarun, don’t think too much of it. I was sent on a mission with the Calindra alpha, and by the grace of the goddess, we came out of it safely.
"See you on the battlefield Jungwoo. Make sure to use every resource at your disposal, because I will use all my resources, even though I must let you know that I am my only resource.
"Now go, be free, old friend, and plan your vengeance well, because I planned mine from the moment my first mate rejected me," Rania said, mumbling the last bit, but Jungwoo caught it.
Rania was too focused on Dalrae to even notice she had slipped up. Jungwoo thought she had let it intentionally slip, but as she continued like nothing happened, he knew he had one route to explore this time.
"Until the battlefield, Rani," Jungwoo said before he went to mingle.
