Chapter 50: In Which He Shows His Face

[DRARUN]

"Jungwoo?" Rania called out when Jungwoo had gone silent.

It was so unlike him and she wanted to know if he was okay. There had to be something more, because his best friend and bickering were things that couldn’t be separated, no matter how long they had been apart.

However, Jungwoo was already asleep and Rania let out a defeated sigh. She shouldn’t have expected him to stay up for long, but maybe there was something else. Maybe it was the silver, but Rania hoped not.

It was dangerous for them to reveal themselves as werewolves, and worst of all, in the dark dungeons, because that would be putting themselves up for capture, not to mention the harsh reality that there was a chance they would never be able to get out of here.

"He’s not sleeping, Rani. He has silver in his system. What do we do?" Jihoon asked softly. This woman was a pain in the ass, but this was the first time he was seeing an actual person that could tolerate Rania.

It was obvious that the two of them understood each other and for some strange reason, Park Jihoon of Calindra wanted to protect their relationship. It was crazy, especially for a man who hated Kim Rania so much. Maybe this was another ploy, but was it?

"I know, but if we cross over, we’ll be risking a lot. Remember that the undead were looking for intruders. If we help the prince, we will be risking our extraction, and that is something we can’t afford right now," Rania said as she huddled herself close to the wall.

She hated this, but it wasn’t like there were any options for her. Maybe her relaxed state made her look like a heartless bitch, but did it really? She worried for Jungwoo, but anyone could see that they were currently out of options.

Maybe she would reminisce about their memories in the past while she tried to sleep. She wasn’t sure what time it was but she knew that dawn would come a little too soon. Who knew whether there would be changes to the system and they would be freed, right?

"He’s your friend! You obviously care for him! What the fuck Rania?" Jihoon asked but Rania just ignored him. There was just no way a man like him could understand the amount of pain Kim Rania was going through. It was already bad enough that they were here with him.

"Get out and keep being the leader Bai, that will do us both some good. Besides, I want to sleep, so if you please, leave me alone. Or better yet, walk in there with him and help him out. Your loss," Rania said coldly

"You’re unbelievable," Jihoon said, disappointed at how Rania was handling things. She seemed heartless, but was she, or was this just an act that she was putting on?

Maybe Park Jihoon was expecting a title too much, but he needed to know that whatever they were doing was risky enough. If he didn’t go back to his station, then Jungwoo wouldn’t be the only one being summoned before the king.

Giving up, the Calindra alpha walked out, locking the doors and going back to his station. He could see that Jungwoo was in captivity, but a part of Jihoon hated the fact that Jungwoo could understand Rania.

It was some sort of jealousy that was even new to Jihoon and he wasn’t going to dwell on it. Then again, he was curious as to why it had to have come to this point. Their lives are already bad enough and there we semitone between them?

Was it jealousy or did Jihoon hate Jungwoo for loving the woman Jihoon hated with all of his being?

"Leader Bai! Leader Bai! The king is coming!" An announcement was made and Jihoon snapped out of his sleep like he hadn’t been enjoying it a while ago. He could feel the sun on his face, a reminder that it was morning already.

His first instinct was to look at Kim Rania and sure enough, the woman was awake, but so was Jungwoo. The werewolf prince looked like he wanted to die thanks to the silver in his system, but Jihoon didn’t care about that.

All he worried about was Rania and whether her tonic had really worked or everyone could see her as the ruthless alpha of Incayon. She had quite the reputation which wouldn’t sit right with anyone who knew her because there was always going to be a bounty on Rania’s head.

However, it was the bounty that no one had ever dared to try and seek out. Maybe because the woman had always made it her mission to send back headless bodies back to the places they had come from. It was cruel, but Rania couldn’t give two shits about that.

"Leader Bai!" A high guard shouted at Jihoon who snapped out of his trance right at the time that Nathaniel Maximo, the king of the undead walked right to where he was.

"Jeez, I heard you the first three times. Goodness, a man can’t even have one fucken peace here. Shut the fuck up. The stupid guard won’t let me have some good sleep. Oh and wake me up when Maximo shows up here," Jihoon said, showing himself.

Whatever relationship Bai Ting had with the vampire king had to be strange enough for them to be on first-name terms, because anyone who could have tried that with any ruler, was bound to be punished for apparently not respecting the crown.

"Good Morning BaiTing. I see you’re charming as usual," King Nat said to Jihoon who just glared at the king, like this was something so normal.

"I was sleeping." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"I know, brother. I came to see the young Jeon," King Nat said and Jihoon looked at him curiously.

"You Nat, are one weird man. For thirteen years you never bothered to come and suddenly you want to see him. Goodness, anyway, here, walk right in. Also, I’ll need to come home when the prince is executed.

"I can’t sleep with the mosquitoes here anymore. I know I’m undead, but their bites are annoying as fuck," Jihoon said and Nathaniel just nodded. It was like he was sure his brother had stayed here enough times.

Nathaniel distrusted every vampire in Drarun, except for his brother. Maybe that was why he had given him the role of taking care of his most valued prisoner.

"Yeah sure, brother. Now get up before anyone thinks you’re being a pain in the ass to your king," Nathaniel teased and Jihoon just rolled his eyes, like the two of them were used to this.

The high guards who had come with the king were at attention and hadn’t even shown signs of trying to laugh at their leader. Or frown at the conversation the two of them were having. This sure seems like a normal thing here.

Rania looked at king Nathaniel and she wanted to kill him and make him pay for all the pain that her best friend had gone through. She wanted to punch his face into tomorrow and wring his neck one too many times.

She wanted to make the damned king suffer for all that Jungwoo had gone through. She was so mad that she subconsciously let out a growl to which Nathaniel raised an eyebrow. But Rania didn’t care.

She kept on growling, however each time, it felt like her growls were forced and that it was so hard to be a werewolf. Thanks to the tonic and the spell Rania had cast, the king could only see a hopeless vampire in the room. So he wasn’t even worried about her.

What mattered to him, was Seojoon’s son.

When Jihoon opened the door, Nathaniel walked carefully towards Jungwoo’s cage. He was careful though, like he was worried that the son of his enemy would jump him or even tear through him.

However, Jungwoo looked like death right now. He looked so terrible that Nathaniel wondered if this is what the kid had become over the years.

"Oh hey, it’s the cowardly king. Why did you put me in a VIP dungeon with a man that growls in the night more times than I ever get food out in the market?" Rania said and Jihoon facepalmed before saying.

"Can I release the woman, brother, she’s more trouble than she’s worth. She won’t stop rambling about how she’s precious. Please, if you do this for me, I’ll be good for a day," Jihoon pleaded and Nathaniel let out a laugh before saying, "Okay."
