Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 45: Not Her, Not My Dalrae
[DRARUN]
"Dalrae, no! Please don’t do this Jeon, please. I promise I’ll get him, just please don’t hurt Dalrae. I’ll find Woo, please, I promise," Rania suddenly said, snapping Jihoon out of his sleepy state. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
It was fucking midnight for heaven’s sake and this woman was making more noise than was necessary. Something about Rania’s voice irked him and yet at the same time, he was genuinely worried for her. He wanted to know what was happening to her.
Maybe she had a nightmare about Dalrae, considering they were three lands away from home. But was that a reason for Rania to be yelling like she was being hunted in her sleep? Jihoon listened for Rania’s heartbeats and for some reason they were steady. But were they?
"I swear it on Woo’s life, please. Please, not Dalrae too, please!" Rania cried out again, this time the sincerity in her voice making Jihoon wake up fully. He knew someone would hear her screams, and so he hoped that she would shut the fuck up.
Of course, he had expected this madness to be part of Rania’s plan to know whether the man in the other cell was the werewolf prince or not, but she was just being annoying the more she talked and shouted.
Goodness, that woman had the audacity of a whole pack and possibly the whole of Obren.
"Dalrae, look at me, sister, please. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I didn’t work harder, I’m sorry I took a long time. Eunbi, please."
At the mention of the queen’s name, the prisoner sat upright, and Jihoon noticed, but Jungwoo didn’t care this time. He wanted to know what the other prisoner was about. Only the werewolves knew his mother’s name, because he was their queen.
Everyone else outside the kingdom always referred to her as the queen because they didn’t want to disrupt the deities. So what the hell was happening here?
"I swear I did everything. No, I’ll do better. Please don’t kill my Dalrae, please. If not for me, but for the sake of Woo, please Seojoon," Rania cried out silently.
She was in real pain this time, and Jungwoo could feel it too. He was worried for her, but he was also scared that the woman was sent here as a spy to trick him. Then again, what was he supposed to think of?
The woman had already told him he would be executed soon enough, and she had made him want to know whether she was really a vampire or she had hidden her scent with something.
Rania was an angry vampire, the kind of anger and temper that could only be seen in alpha werewolves. That much Jeon Jungwoo knew, so why the hell was she here?
Was this the envoy his parents had sent to save him?
Why the fuck were they here, two days to his stupid ass execution day?
What in the moon goddess’s good world was even going on?
"Dalrae!!!!" Rania cried out, this time, the pain in her voice was raw and Jihoon couldn’t take it anymore.
He hated the woman, but not enough for him to wish that kind of torment on her. Granted she was the reason he had several nightmares because of his dead Yanna, but still, he still had a soft spot in his heart for people who were hiring.
He didn’t want to see people being emotionally damaged.
You’d think that the emotional torture that Rania had gone through in Incayon could have prepared her for all this, but it seemed not. Then again, no one would wish to live in their horrors day and night, because that was too much pain for them to bear.
There were just some things that never made any sense, no matter how they tried to look at it, but here and now, the focus was on Rania.
Jungwoo wanted to help her, but he was worried she was playing tricks on him. Well technically, she had been playing tricks with him from the onset but then a lot had changed in the past three minutes.
Maybe this time, there were no tricks up Rania’s sleeve and this time, all she had was her truth, the horror that had cemented itself in her life since her childhood.
She was scared of losing Dalarae then, because Dalrae was the only person who understood her.
And at the moment, she was scared of losing Dalrae, just because she was unable to tell whether the prince was who he was or they were just both caught up in a loop of maybes and what-ifs.
What Rania had resorted to doing as a joke had turned out to be the worst of her nightmares and she hated it. She had never thought there would come a day when she would beg Seojoon for Dalrae’s life.
She had threatened the king, but the man had been adamant, and right now, she was in the land of the undead.
She was away from the one woman that was standing between her and the king, and hell be damned, if Seojoon so much as lifted a finger on Dalrae, Rania would make him understand what it meant to lose a child and she would do it with a proud face.
"What the fuck, Rania!" Jihoon whispered loudly as he rushed toward Rania’s cell. It was late in the night, probably around midnight, when the damned woman started having nightmares.
At first, Jihoon thought she was playing games with him, but he was sharing the same thing when he heard her talk about the cave. She was scared of losing Dalrae. Seems like Rania preferred to give up her life for her beta.
No sane alpha would even think of that, unless they were too close. But then again, he couldn’t blame Rania. The woman had been shunned by the whole werewolf community and her people had hated her the most.
She had to find ways to survive, and unfortunately, one of those ways included being who she was today.
"C’mon Rani," Jihoon desperately said as he tried to get to Rania. She was currently on the further end of the wall of her cell. No matter what Jihoon did, he couldn’t get to her. The silver was poisonous to him, but he had to try.
Clicking his tongue angrily, he pulled apart the bars of her cage, doing so with ease, the kind that no vampire warrior or high guard would ever be able to do. It was too strong and yet Jihoon was here pulling them both apart without putting in so much effort.
The Calindra alpha didn’t care about that though, as he walked right in the damned cell to wake her up.
He didn’t care that he was poisoned, or that his cover would be blown.
He didn’t care that this woman had always been an annoying piece of shit, because right now, he wanted to hear her curse at him. He wanted to hear her call him a coward, hell, he was prepared to listen to her make fun of him.
This wasn’t how she died.
For two people who hated each other with everything they had and did not have, they sure tended to have little moments that would betray their entity. Or maybe, this was what they meant when they said there were frenemies.
Fuck.
