Chapter 247: What About Us

[RANIA]

"I saw my mother... And she looked like the goddess’s sister, the one we were taught of in werewolf classrooms. My mother looked like Kim Hyerim," Rani said to her brother and friends and they just looked at her like she had gone nuts.

Maybe the rain had fucked her up. Maybe everything that she had gone through had messed her mind a little bit, because what the fuck was this and how were they even to explain this?

"Y’know what? I believe you. Let’s get some rest, alright? Tomorrow is also another day," Chang Wook said and Kaia couldn’t help but agree.

Of course, this was what Rania had expected her friends weren’t believing that her mother, the woman she had grown up with, the woman she had been isolated from for years even though they had been close, was also the woman that had been with so many.

Even she didn’t want to believe it, but Rania knew there was only so much she could take like shit hadn’t become a little too real. If it had been a hallucination, then maybe she needed to forget about it, but would she really?

"Yeah, you’re right. I need to get some rest too. It was really cold out there, I wonder why I even went out," Rania said and they just nodded at her in understanding.

They didn’t know what they were to tell her at this point really because they did believe that Kim Hyejin was the goddess’s sister.

It was just crazy and it would be a delusional story. Maybe that was also why they had unanimously agreed to not talk about the matter again in their own way.

Amd sk for that evening, the four of them rested their heads for the night. They had been too tired having walked the long roads for a whole week. They could have taken shortcuts but once again they wanted to master the roads.

It was obvious that some roads they would be using frequently and a little familiarity wouldn’t hurt, right?

Rania had slept in Kaia’s arms despite Chang Wook and his grievances. She was determined to sell this mate bond to anyone who would see and listen; and right now, she needed to convince Chang Wook more.

However that night, Rania couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned more frequently than she ever had and her dreams were plagued with nightmares again. It was the same recurring nightmare.

It was one that saw her lose everyone she ever loved and she had remained helpless in all of it. It was the one thing that she had been scared of the most and yet each time she felt like she couldn’t breathe.

She was stuck in a hell loop of losing everything and she hated it, but as always she wasn’t able to snap out of it.

"Please, not them, Mother. Please don’t take them away too. I promise I’ll leave home with them and never come back. I won’t even stay in Obren anymore. Please don’t take my friends away.

"Please, Mother," Rania cried defeatedly as she gripped Kaia’s shirt so strongly.

Her cries were fucking with Kaia’s mind too because even he knew that he was not going to be in a position to help Rania with her nightmares. She was alone and yet she wasn’t alone and that hurt.

She was trapped and Kaia could only want him helplessly and hold her to him in the hope that the night could fade away.

"You need to wake up, little wolf. It’s all just a dream," Kaia said repeatedly in a bid to calm her down but each time she grew more frantic and scared. It was like he was watching his victims whimpering, but that was the problem.

Rania wasn’t his victim.

She was the girl he actually cared about and not the one he wanted to see suffer. Rani in that state was breaking their hearts.

Chang Wook and Dalrae had woken up too and we were watching helplessly. They had both seen her in that state and had always tried to make her feel better but each time they failed.

So they just shook their heads at Kaia as if to tell him that this was one battle that they couldn’t ever win. It was not them giving up but rather them having the chance to test a theory. It was a dangerous one but what other option was left for them anyway?

"We need to bring him back. It’s obvious you aren’t her mate and won’t be able to calm her down. Maybe he can help her. Maybe he can know how to stop her pain," Chang Wook stated, and for a moment Dalrae looked at the man like he had gone insane.

Surely he wasn’t suggesting that they bring a prisoner they had taken back home or was he? This shit could go wrong in so many ways and if they weren’t careful they would be subjecting Rania to a crueler fate.

But then it wasn’t like they had any options for the right now.

They either had to bring the bastard back, just for the night or they could sit and watch as she cried in her sleep and called for help while they were helpless.

They couldn’t do shit for her and that raised questions on the credibility of Rania and Kai’s mate bond.

"She hates him. She killed his whole team and his father is dead because of her. He won’t help her and you know that. If we bring him back and he refuses, we will be subjecting her to another bout of pain.

"That won’t be fair to her, not after she had tried to make everything go away. We can’t be the ones to bring her back to the pain, Chang Wook," Dalrae reasoned and Chang Wook knew that this would go wrong in so many ways.

The man in question could trigger Rania and could possibly try to make her submit in her most vulnerable state and that was crazy. But what didn’t they do for her anyway?

"Go, bring him. Shackle him with thorns if you must, but fm bring him here—" Chang Wook said and for a moment, Kaia looked at the man like he was crazy.

Incayon was asleep right now. Everyone was fucking sleeping and they wanted to bring all the attention to Rania too? What the hell was even going on right now?

"You can’t be serious right now," Dalrae reasoned but Kaia was done negotiating this was happening and dealers could either be on their side or against them. No matter what happened, they were bringing the bastard back.

"You are the one who can’t be serious. Can’t you see her state? It’s not even midnight yet and she definitely won’t wake up. Her nightmares take the whole night and even I can’t do shit about it.

"If you can help her, then fucking do it, and if you can’t, let me do what she brought me in to do,’’ Kaia said before he created a portal to the Incayon dungeons, ignoring Dalrae and Chang Wook’s shock.

"Haru, I have taken your prisoner. It’s about Rani. Don’t worry, I’ll return him by the morning brother," Kaia said before he grabbed Jihoon and brought him back to the shelter, closing the portal behind him, even before his rother could say anything.
