Chapter 242: The Chains of Family

[RANIA]

"You wanted to portal, remember?" Chang Wook said as he looked at Han.

He thought that maybe he was being a little cruel, but the fact that Han Seogg didn’t tell them all the time that he was the twin of the evil of all time was just not sitting well with him.

They had a lot of history with Han Seong.

They had years and years of friendship, they trusted each other with their lives and as it turned out, Han Seong was an immortal, one who had all their powers combined, an immortal that didn’t have to worry about losing his life because he was among the two that wouldn’t ever get to lay under the ground.

It was not okay with Chang Wook and honesty, the rest of the team was shocked too. It wasn’t the fact that he was Kaia’s brother that bothers them, no.

They themselves were devils on their own and they never once claimed to be the bastion of temperance and peace.

What angered Chang Wook right now was the fact that Han hadn’t trusted them enough to come clean to them. But how the fuck was he supposed to start the conversation anyway?

How was he supposed to tell his friends that he was the brother of the devil reincarnate, the man that everyone, including their friends, had lived their lives scared shitless of? What the fuck was Han even supposed to say to them?

"I know you’re angry because I didn’t tell you about my relationship with him—" Han Song tried but Chang Wook wasn’t having it. He had trusted this man for way too long; he had loved Han like a brother.

He had protected Han like his family and now he wasn’t even sure who He was. If Kaia was the devil and Han was Kaia’s town. Who was to say that Han Song wasn’t also the devil himself?

Who Was to say that he was different?

From the story Kaia had told them earlier, it is obvious that Kaia was talking well of his brother, but was that the truth really?

"Angry? No, I’m not angry. I don’t even know what I feel right now. We have had years and years of history and you didn’t say anything.

"I even opened up to you about everything that happened because you were there for me in that time, and yet you failed to tell them that you had a brother and that too, one that was the devil reincarnate?" Chang Wook asked as he punched the nearest wall, ignoring the bats that had been running around.

It was all so chaotic because the punch was so strong that the animals outside had started making a run for it.

The prisoners that had been taken from the Calindra war were shocked but a part of them understood Han Seong and yet the other felt like he could have come clean to them.

"How the fuck was I supposed to start the conversation, huh? What the fuck was I to tell you? That I was, am, and will always be the brother of the bastard killer, the remorseless devil that ruined and keeps ruining most people’s lives in the realm?

"Was I to admit that the man everyone wished dead was the brother I shared a womb with? Don’t get me wrong, my brother may be the bastard of all bastards, but he is family. And we don’t talk about family if we are asked about them.

"You more than anyone should know that. I am going to go to Incayon and you will accompany me there, Odelia.

"You can choose to trust me or not, but don’t blame me for having a sibling that cared enough to take all my pain and burden himself with it all," Han Seong said angrily.

He hadn’t been expecting the reveal but it had already happened and the sooner he accepted that this was happening, the sooner he could get over it.

Frankly, Han wanted to blame his brother for what had happened. But then years passed. So much time had gone by and his brother had always been protecting him.

When Han had to make tough decisions about the home his brother never came back to, Kaia always showed up with a solution in Han’s dreams.

He never showed up in the Valley of the Whites but he never failed to make his brother’s life lighter. Han Song may have been alone, but he had never been alone, because his brother had always been there for him.

"You should have at least told them you had a family," Jihoon said after a long silence.

He knew Han Seong and he knew Han Seong never intended to hurt anyone. Sure, even he was shocked that Han Seong was with a sibling, but that didn’t mean that he would trash the man for not wanting to talk about Kaia.

"Oh yeah? And how would you have taken it, huh? If I came clean and told you about my brother, wouldn’t you have tried to use me to get to him, huh? Wouldn’t you have tried to use me to make him suffer?

"Because my brother may be the devil but my pain breaks him and gets him on his knees. Wouldn’t you have considered that yourself, hh? I didn’t talk about him, because I didn’t need the reminder that shit had changed because of my brother.

"I didn’t talk about him, because I didn’t want anyone pointing fingers at him. I am not going to defend the Kaia you see, the devil that ruins people’s lives to quench the thirst for his beasts, because no matter what we do, the truth stands.

"I will defend my brother, the one who was brave enough to choose love over anger each time. He may not be the same for you, but I will defend him, for all lifetimes.

"I know that isn’t what we all want to hear, and I’m sorry I have an insufferable brother. If you want to halt the mission just because of one man whose humanity will probably not last longer than the mission, then be my guest.

"I am going to protect my family’s family. You can hate me later, but we have a mission. Now stick to it," Han said and for a moment, Kaia’s heart shattered for his brother.

He knew it was wrong of him to have come back to Obren.

He was here because of his brother and something else, but seeing them emotionally overwhelmed was honestly fucking with Kaia and this wasn’t what he had wished for the man he loved.

He didn’t want to see his brother hurting, so he wasn’t going to let them talk to his brother like that.

But were the misfits wrong for feeling outcast by Han?

Were they wrong for rushing to get to the bottom of this?

Were they wrong for trying to get their closure and facing the truth?

It wasn’t daily that their best friend and someone they consider family turned out to be the devil’s brother. It was just as shocking. But were they to use that against Han?
