Chapter 185: The Evening of Hauls

[RANIA]

"I asked about the banishment because of Byungho and his wife. They had done so much damage to her and they ended up offering no explanation—" Chang Wook said and Dalrae scoffed, as she looked at the man before her.

"You think I haven’t thought of that? She loves them, even when she rebels against them. She cares for them so much that it breaks my heart to see what they have done to her. She would defend them in a heartbeat, even after everything.

"She would give up her life for them because that is how much she loves them. She doesn’t want Incayon to be left without a damn alpha, apparently when she leaves, and that is what pisses me off.

"She would drop everything and fight for them and they wouldn’t even lift a finger. So no, there is nothing I can do about their banishment. Because I don’t want to see my sister hurt. I just wish she let me protect her like she protects me.

"I would burn her parents on a wooden stake and in front of the whole Obren for them to know that it will cost to try and fuck around with my sister’s emotions.

"Maybe someday I’ll be able to convince her and I’ll be able to wipe away everyone that hurt her," Dalrae said and Chang Wook listened carefully. He had been listening to her for a while and he couldn’t deny that he was starting to grow warmer towards Dalrae.

If anyone had talked to him like she had earlier, Chang Wook would have had their head, and yet when Dalrae had shushed him in front of everyone, he had said nothing.

Instead, he had listened and nodded like a dutiful warrior and he even followed her outside. Anyone else would have been killed instantly by him, even before they left.

"Let me help, Dalrae. My sister is important to you, just as she is to me. I would lay my life for her. I have heard troubling things against her in the past, and I only seek to protect her.

"She is all I have and I wouldn’t know what to do if she were taken from me," Chang Wook said softly as he looked at the woman before him.

He couldn’t deny that he was feeling the bond but maybe it was because they had been friends over the months that he and Rani had been living together, right?

"You talk of her like she is truly your sister, Chang Wook. No one other than me has ever sworn their lives to protect my sister. Is there something that you’re not telling?" Dalrae asked and Chang Wook just laughed lowly.

Of course, he expected her to be suspicious, but not even a beauty like Lim Dalrae would get that information out of him if he didn’t want to. He would keep his sister safe.

"She’s been my friend for so long that I consider her a sister. Anyway, what are you planning on doing now that she is asleep?" Chang Wook said, instantly changing the topic.

"We have to help the rogues settle in and I also have to meet the pack. Now that Rania is asleep, I would like to know what they think and what made them change their minds about defending her.

"I was so sure they wouldn’t bother with the fight and that I’d be fighting alone, but they surprised me. It’s something that doesn’t happen daily. I just need to be sure that this wasn’t a one-time thing.

"Rania would be so heartbroken and I can’t have that happen again," Dalrae said calmly, now that she was certain that Chang Wook wasn’t a danger to her sister and that he wasn’t going to help her leave.

She needed to make sure Rania was happy, which was more important to her than anything.

Looking around her, Dalrae knew that they had indirectly declared war against the whole realm. There were fallen warriors for different packs, including Calindra and yet somehow not even a warrior from Incayon was dead.

It was definitely thanks to the magic that Chang Wook had. He was known as a warrior healer for negative reasons, but it was in times like this that his humanity made a show for the best.

As he watched the bodies being staged at the pier, Dalrae couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.

Maybe this was the first of the many battles they would fight, but it was a long war and they had to be prepared, even if that meant that Incayon had to make space for most of Paloma’s rogues who were here to help them with the war.

"Your idea sounds great, but you need to meet with the rogues so we can appreciate them for coming first. It is something that is important at the moment. They may be our friends, but on the battlefield, they were allies and that was worth noting.

"If we don’t acknowledge them, the warriors may be discouraged and we both know what will happen in that state," Chang Wook said to Dalrae who just nodded in understanding.

She was thinking of meeting with her people first, but then it wasn’t going to be any different since they would be on the same team this time.

Maybe they would try to play the long game with them, but then that was what life was always like anyway. They would win, right?

"Great. Then, in that case, we can meet in the hall at once. I’ll have some warriors guard the door to Rania’s bedroom. I know you have spelled it, but I need to be sure about what is going on.

I need to ensure that no one tries anything to make her life any more difficult than it already is at the moment. The sooner the better," Dalrae said as she made way for her warriors to bring their injured to the infirmary.

They looked so tired and spent, but it was definitely worth it.

Jisung had backed off and that man never backed out of a battle unless he won and everyone was dead. He had never left the battlefield without winning and today was his first.

Hopefully, there would be many firsts for them in the future, right?

"Tell everyone to assemble in the hall. And I mean every single person right now in Incayon. Including the guests who helped us win the war," Dalrae announced and the warriors just nodded.

Everyone could hear her so it wasn’t long before they started making their way there. Those that were wounded and being transferred were going to be listening through the open mind-links. It was the easiest way to communicate with them without missing out on anything.

"Yes, al—" Kylian began but Dalrae just smiled at him proudly.

"Rania is our alpha, Kylian. We are not abandoned anymore, so there is no point in calling me the alpha. Our alpha is back and we will be undefeated as always," Dalrae said proudly with a smile on her face. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

If Chang Wook didn’t know any better he could have easily assumed that Lim Dalrae was bipolar. But then was she?
