Chapter 174: Trust Me, Just This Once

[RANIA]

As everything settled behind Chang Wook, Rani had made her choice.

She would lead her warriors to war.

She would lead them in defending their home, even though this was something that had come to tuition just because she and her brother had gone to the palace and made it a shitty hole. But Rani didn’t care. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Someone had to teach the big bad king a lesson on defiance. Someone had to stand up and remind the big bad king that he wasn’t always going to get his way.

Anyone would have been confused by why the king had been Rani’s target and why she had gone for him, but Kim Rania always had her reasons.

She had gone to provoke the king because, by the laws of Obren, the very old laws of the book, no werewolf was supposed to live outside of the kingdom. It didn’t matter if the wolves were rogues or anything else.

Wolves were allowed to be rogues and banished from their packs, but it was the responsibility of the werewolf kingdom to protect their own race. It was the responsibility of the king to make sure that all wolves on the face of the earth were always welcome home.

And yet Seojoon hadn’t done that. He had gone against the laws when he forced the rogues to live outside the kingdom like a bunch of misfits whose races weren’t ready to accept.

The king had made a mistake when he banished Rania from the kingdom instead of keeping her prisoner as the laws of the Lunar trial demanded. Then again, Kim Rania had read all the laws of Obren and this was her chance.

Rania had sworn that her first fight would be for the rogues.

Granted, right now it was pointless since the rogues had always found a home with Paloma, in Altunia, but the law was the law, and King Seojoon wasn’t just going to go against the law just because he was king and get away with it.

This was Seojoon’s karma and Rani was going to use that as a stepping stone to her vengeance.

"Let’s go out there, and don’t you ever think of stopping me. I won’t stop until I get what I want," Rani said with a tone of finality and Daehyun just sighed.

He knew the woman from most of the stories and right now, he could finally tell why they called her the unbeatable and crazy one.

She truly was a crazy one.

Right outside Incayon, were troops that had come to seek out the delinquent siblings. The king had given out a bounty and all the packs had responded. Someone had seen the two come to Incayon, hence the large troops were here.

They didn’t care what was in store for them and they didn’t mind that they were about to go to war with the largest and strongest pack in the realm.

But then they were also here counting on the fact that there wasn’t a pack in the realm that hated and despised Kim Rania more than her own pack. They had come hoping that the Incayon warriors would surrender the delinquent ruler, but would they?

Sure, Rani had commanded them, but then it hadn’t been a strong command like she always did when she truly wanted them to do things for her. It had been a light one though, one that gave the warriors the option to side with her or be against her.

It was the command that gave the people of Incayon a choice. To defend Rania or to fight Rania and frankly, even Rania wasn’t sure what the warriors would do this time, and she wasn’t going to risk her life trusting the people that hated her since forever.

Maybe that was also why she had dressed herself up in full armor, ready to take out anyone on her own if she was alone eventually. She looked like she was alone on a one-woman mission and damn, that broke Dalrae’s heart.

"Rani, that is too much armor for one person. You won’t be fighting this alone. You will have me, Daehyun, Chang Wook, and even the warriors of Incayon," Dalrae tried but Rani just smiled at her sadly, like she already knew a truth that she wasn’t ready to face.

Of course, Incayon wasn’t going to defend her just because of her instant sob story and she knew it. They were free minds and could do whatever they wanted, especially now that Rania hadn’t forced them.

"Come on Lim Lim. let’s go. You both look ready, and I really don’t want to think about anything. Besides, today could probably be my last day fighting bride you, so let’s go make it fun, right?" Rani said as she patted her sister’s armor lightly before she walked out of the house.

Under that armor, was a girl who was praying to anyone that could listen to her that she could fight her fight well. She was scared shitless, but she wasn’t going to ever admit it. She was alone, against an army of warriors.

Sure, she would be able to take out half of them, but then she wouldn’t be able to take out the other half and that made her feel like she was cursed to live and die alone. She wanted her parents to be on her side, even just this once but they weren’t.

They were seated back in their office, talking about petty things, and not even the fact that their youngest child was putting herself in danger.

Alpha and Luna Kim were warriors of the old times. They were taught in the ways of the old Obren. They were strong, powerful and could take out anyone they had targeted. They could easily defend their child without her having to go to war.

But they weren’t going to.

They had made it clear that Rania wasn’t their child. They had abandoned her even when she came calling and that was the worst of stabs that Rania ever felt in her heart. Her parents were really enjoying breaking her and it was working.

’Smile, Rani, you can do this,’ Rani said to herself as she breathed in deeply before she plastered a fake smile and walked out of the pack house.

"Damn little sis, you look stuffed," Chang Wook teased and Rani just side-bumped him, making the warrior falter a little.

He had definitely heard what Rania had said to Daehyun and Dalrae back there, and Chang Wook was determined to make sure that the battle didn’t end with him losing his only sister.

He wouldn’t let anyone hurt her and he was going to make sure that at the end of the day, she was fine.

"Come along, they are at the gates," Rani said excitedly, though the excitement didn’t reach her eyes.

She may have been strong but she never wished for war to come to the doors of Incayon, and much less because of her. Then again, she needed an army and the only one she trusted was her army, even if they would probably sell her out.

She just had to wait and see, right?

"Bring her out, Kylian. Tell that damned little shit of a rogue that we want her.’
