Chapter 158: I Can Trust You, Right?

[JUNGWOO]

As he watched his best friend walk away from the mess that they had caused, Jungoo looked at his father questioningly. He was worried not just for his father, but for his mother and the rest of the wolves.

He knew his best friend so well and if Rania killed this many wolves, then she was finally done playing nice. She was done saving people who didn’t deserve her help. She had been a good wolf no doubt and anyone with eyes had seen it.

Despite everything, Jungwoo wanted answers from his father. He had seen worse things than what was before him, in Drarun when he had been captured, but none of that would ever equate to what he was seeing here and now.

This was madness in its rawest form, and that scared the hell out of Prince Jungwoo.

"Why? And what the fuck did they mean they have the royal seal? The same royal seal that disappeared a week ago?" Jungwoo asked angrily as he looked at the treaty in his hand, before handing it over to his father.

The werewolf king had made the worst mistake when he called the bluff of the Kim siblings and now he was paying the price for it.

No one had ever prepared him for the mess that the siblings would cause if they ever went full-on psycho and yet right now, that is what was happening.

"This doesn’t concern you. Go back to your chambers and stay clear of this. I will handle the siblings myself," King Seojooon said as he watched his dead warriors. He hadn’t intended for this, really.

He had been counting on the fact that Kim Rania always valued lives, but then he had miscalculated terribly, and was now left with the responsibility of telling the warriors’ families that the warriors had died in the palace.

And not even at war.

There would be questions, more than what Jungwoo was asking. There would be questions from the royal council, because they were the direct link to the people and yet King Seojoon felt like he was supposed to make all of this disappear.

"Really? This doesn’t concern me? This is the kind of shit you’re going to tell the people of Obren when they start asking questions, huh?

"Well then, Father, I shall see you around, no?" Jungwoo said angrily, walking past his mother who was staring at the whole mess with an open mouth.

Queen Enubi had clearly not expected this and yet at the same time, she had expected that such chaos would be back in the realm sooner or later. Then again, there was only so much that they could run away from what was presented to them.

This wasn’t unsourced chaos.

This was something they had groomed, the result of everything they had been pretending to face and yet had refused to come to terms with. All if this was the kind of mess that should have been presented right?

"Son—" Queen Eunbi said to her son who just raised a hand at her, as if to tell her that he was done listening to his father.

The crown prince didn’t have the patience really because all of this just didn’t make any sense. His father had to have done something but he would obviously keep acting like he hadn’t created the worst of the world and unleashed them into Obren.

"Fuck this," the prince growled before walking outside, making sure to slam the throne room doors so loudly that everyone in the castle flinched at the sound. They had never thought there would come a day when Jeon Jungwoo would be at odds with his father.

In the months that the prince had come back home he had been a good son. He had worked hard to earn the trust of the werewolves. He had made things work and he had promised that there would be a better Obren.

And yet barely a week after the mating festival, there were warriors on the floor, dead, because of his father and his deeds.

Mates would have to receive the information that their husbands and wives weren’t coming back home ever.

Children would have to be told that their mothers and fathers wouldn’t be coming home and that hurt more than anything than Jungwoo had ever imagined. It made him feel like he was going bonkers.

"Hey, love, are you okay?" Moonbin asked Jungwoo who had walked into their chamber looking like he wanted to punch a hundred things out of the face of the world.

At his mate’s voice, Jungwoo turned to look at the beautiful man who was staring at him in kindness and love.

He could see that the man before him cared, and yet at the same time, he couldn’t help but think back to the fact that Chang Wook had warned him not to hurt Moobin. That in itself made Jungwoo curious.

For a moment there, he wanted to ask Moonbin how well he knew Chang Wook. He wanted to ask his mate about the man that everyone feared and the man who had a soft spot for his mate. Oh, but Jungwoo was desperate.

However, he also knew that it wouldn’t be fair to drag his innocent mate into this long battle. He couldn’t use his mate to get to Chang Wook because that would definitely piss off the warrior healer and probably Rania too.

Mates were too sacred to be joked around with and Rania had always told Jungwoo that. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Honestly, no," Jungwoo said to his mate, deciding against using his mate for his own benefit.

Moonbin had been nothing but a loyal man and if he could be protected by the Kim siblings, then he had to truly be a good person and Jungwoo couldn’t use that against him. He knew firsthand what happened to people whose kindness had been taken for granted.

Rania and the massacre in the throne room were proof of all that. It would be difficult to tell what Chang Wook’s best friend would do if he realized Jungwoo was using him. Oh, Jungwoo was frustrated as fuck.

"Is it about Wookie and his sister?" Moonbin asked and Jungwoo contemplated asking him how he knew but then he figured that he was that close to Chang Wook anyway. There was no telling what the siblings were up to and that in itself was crazy.

"Yeah, but I don’t want to talk about it. I just want to be here with you. Come let’s lay down for a moment before we go down for late lunch," Jungwoo said to his mate as he gestured towards the bed.

He just wanted to hold his mate in his arms, because Moonbin was his safe space and his only chance at maintaining his sanity. There was no telling what he would do if he went after Rania and Chang Wook, because that was definitely a terrible idea, if not the worst.

"Sure, my love," Moonbin said excitedly as he went to his mate.

However, Jungwoo didn’t miss the creases of worry on Moonbin’s face and he wondered if that was because the man was worried about the psychotic delinquents or Jungwoo himself.

"I love you, you know that, right?" Jungwoo whispered softly once Moonbin was settled in his arms in bed.

Moonbin was his home and he hoped that there wouldn’t come a day when shit went sideways for the both of them.

But would it really?

"And I you, baby," Moonbin responded as he snuggled closer to his mate.
