Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 147: Dancing To The Lost Rhythm
[INCAYON]
"Mate."
That was all that could be heard all around.
The countdown had ended by the time Yanna and the stranger had reached the main event. And everyone was clinging to their mates. The world seemed to suddenly be flowery as people hugged each other while others kissed in the night.
It was a beautiful event really and everyone who had gotten their mates was sure to have a happy ending. Well, that was all that could be hoped for in times like these anyway.
So much could go wrong with the mating ceremony and the fact that none of them was choosing to pay any attention to the chaos beyond was something notable.
"I guess you and I don’t get to have mates, no?" the stranger said to Yanna who just nodded sadly, even though she was glad she didn’t have any right now.
She knew that Rania was somewhere in the realm and she knew Rania would definitely pay back the cruelty that Yanna had put her through.
Yanna didn’t want her mate or suffer because of her and the only way to do that was to pray to the goddess that she didn’t find a mate tonight. Maybe she would seek one out, when she was done with Rania, but until then, she needed to be alert at all times.
Granted, she wasn’t going to present herself to Rania just because she was the one who had wronged Rania no. She would fight for herself and ruin a few lives while at it, because, to her, it wouldn’t just be fair that she was the only one suffering.
"Well, in that case, would you care to dance with me?" the stranger asked and Yanna looked at him skeptically.
For a man who was getting the attention of anyone and everyone, this man sure had his preferences straight. But was that all there was to this? Well, she didn’t care if the man was the devil himself, because right now, what mattered was that she had her fun.
Sure, she knew that some of the people would worry when they saw her, given that she was supposed to be very dead.
That was something she wouldn’t have to explain over several beer bottles because that was what it had taken her to get over the fact that Kim Rania had killed her and yet at the same time, hadn’t killed her. It was hectic, and she knew it.
But for the moment, she would let herself dance to the slow music amidst the mates who were claiming each other.
"I have never been asked to a dance," Yanna said, lying through her teeth. The stranger could see through her lies, but he figured that it wasn’t going to be nice of him to ruin the woman’s chance to dance with him. So he gave in, again.
"No problem. I’ll be your anchor tonight or until the festival ends. Whichever you want," the stranger said and Yanna let out a light lush in the pretense of a blush.
Tonight she was going to pretend.
She would pretend she wasn’t scared that Rania would come at her and finish her off for real this time.
She was going to pretend that she didn’t know she was a hybrid wolf and was technically supposed to live in Drarun since the vampire king had all the claim on the vampires.
Tonight, Yanna would pretend that she was just a normal girl on a dance with a normal boy, even if none of them were normal.
"Are you always this kind to every girl you meet?" Yanna asked and the stranger chuckled.
"If they are half as pretty as you, then sure. But I have never met a beautiful woman like you, ever," the stranger added the last bit softly, and Yanna leaned into him, like she was slowly feeling safe with him.
Her guards were still up and she was hoping that at the end of the day, she wouldn’t have to ruin the festival for anyone. Maybe they would be fine till the end and maybe they would stay as long as they wanted, right?
"Well, I’ll take that. So tell me, what brings you to Obren? You don’t seem like the type to come to mating festivals. And earlier you claimed that Alpha Dalrae sent you, but it’s obvious you don’t even know her.
You must have known that she was missing and figured that was your chance to step up and freak out the werewolf king," Yanna said as they swayed to the music.
It was a beautiful rhythm, one that she would have loved if she had a mate, and if she hadn’t straight up sacrificed hers. But then it was worth, it even for the three years she had been mated to Park Jihoon, right?
"Business. I got some things to work out with the king. I didn’t know I was that open a book to everyone," the stranger said, as he listened to Yanna.
He could have been intrigued by how keen Yanna was, but then he himself had met a few of the best people in the realm, people who had talents way better than Yannaa par. But Yannaa didn’t know that.
"Well, a girl’s gotta show some skills for the man she wants for the night, no?" Yanna asked sensually like she was giving in, even when she wasn’t.
The two of them were floating around their own worlds, even when they were in their own worlds. One was filled with fear and worry, while the other was filled with the desire to run up to the podium and slay the werewolf king.
He was still determining whether death was too good a mercy for the king. Perhaps after this festival, he would have an answer, and perhaps everything would fit together like pieces of a puzzle.
"It’s working. How about we dance our way to the front row where the royals are? Or are you scared?" the stranger asked and Yannaa just nodded excitedly.
The thought of seeing the royals flat out worried about the realm at the sight of this stranger was somewhat comforting and Yanna wanted to know more about what the man had that made the king that tense.
Surely the big bad werewolf king couldn’t be scared of the viking, yeah?
"I love the idea, shall we?" Yanna said and they danced their way through the crowd, silently watching as everyone here had something they couldn’t have. The partners that they would never have no matter how many lives they found themselves living.
It was a reality that was almost too cruel, but at least this time, they both didn’t have anything to lose. Well, Yanna had a whole family to lose, but she just didn’t know it yet.
However, the stranger, he literally had nothing to lose and could face whatever was thrown in his direction. Hell was just another place he called home, so there wouldn’t be a worse hell than all that he had endured.
"You’re smart. I like you even more than the pretending we are doing right now," the stranger said while they danced.
They could see the smiles on the people and when they finally made it to the frontline, they were met with a sight that could either be the best sight of the night, or the perfect tool for the stranger’s next actions.
At first, it was all like an illusion, but the longer they danced there, staring at what was before them, the more certain the stranger was that he had hit the jackpot.
"Oh, shit. Jeon Jungwoo got a fucking mate," Yanna whisper-yelled.
