Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 131: Hello And Goodnight, Old Friend
[JIHOON]
"I’m sorry, what?" Daehyun asked as he watched his best friend disappear in the woods while he was still standing there listening to the p[ak leaders in the mind link. Of the things he had expected, what Alpha Park had said had to be the most unexpected.
Oh, how this was unbelievable. Daehyun was certain that if he didn’t go crazy from his best friend’s actions, then the lead-alpha was certainly going to drive him nuts.
"Go after him, Daehyun. You can get your answers later, but until then, take care of my boy," Luna Park said before she closed the mind links, leaving behind a worried Daehyun.
Maybe he was bound to go insane from that family but good lord, what the hell was he even thinking anyway?
"’Be the beta, it will be fun,’ they said," Daehyun whined as he rushed after his best friend.
He knew that there was more to this, and he could feel it too, but how else was he supposed to explain shit that even he didn’t understand himself? What was he supposed to do to make it all work out or even to make his sanity give him the long break that he rightfully deserved?
"He’s heading to Incayon?" Daehyun asked himself when he looked at the directions his best friend had taken.
Surely he wasn’t going to rile up Dalrae too, right? Because there was a high chance that Lim Dalrae would gladly burn him before he could even olight a fire against Incayon. Then again was his best friend suicidal?
Daehyun was just adding onto the long list of questions that no one had been kind enough to answer him. Maybe at the end of the day, they would both have an understanding to never go on suicidal missions if they actually didn’t want to.
They were each other’s anchors but when Daehyun saw Jihoon helplessly fall to the ground, he felt his heart breaking for his friend.
He knew that this wasn’t exactly the easiest time for him, but goodness, couldn’t he even at least open up so Daehyun knew what they were up against instead of leaving the man hanging dry with worries that he was scared of?
"Hey... I got you, okay?" Daehyun said when he reached Jihoon, making sure to hold him so he didn’t hit the ground.
Jihoon looked pale and sick.
He looked like he hadn’t slept a wink in months and while maybe that was true, Daehyun knew that it was a sensitive situation, so he figured he wouldn’t be the one to make his best friend feel even worse than he probably was at the moment.
So many things were happening in Jihoon’s life and the transitions were dragging them both nuts. It wasn’t like there was much that they could do, but maybe, if they took a break from it all, it would make sense. But would it go to Jihoon anyway?
"You need to rest. You have been training with the warriors for a while and now you’re on your way to Incayon. I don’t know what you are expecting from there, but I need to remind you that Alpha Dalrae wouldn’t hesitate to rip you apart.
"You are not even in the right state to fight her," Daehyun reminded Jihoon like it wasn’t the most obvious thing. Then again, Jihoon didn’t seem to understand the consequences of what he was about to do.
Maybe he needed more than a reminder but was that something that Daehyun was willing to do at the moment?
"Leave me be. You can go back home and be with your people. You are needed for the festival that is upcoming go home, brother. You don’t have to always be there to clean up after me all the time," Jihoon said as he struggled to get up.
He had been in Daehyun’s arms and even then, he felt like he needed to go to Incayon. Maybe he was being irrational and wanted a fight, but what if he had finally connected the dots? What if he had finally grown a pair and was going to face Dalrae for obvious reasons?
"Where you go, I will go. That is non-negotiable. Now get up, if you want to go to Incayon, then I will walk you there myself. I don’t know what’s wrong with you but if going to Alpha Dalrae will get you some answers then we will head there.
"You just need to hold on a little longer," Daehyun said defeatedly. He had weighed his options and frankly, fighting with his brother over things that even he didn’t understand would just waste both their time.
There was a lot of cleanup waiting for them back home and the sooner they got over whatever was bothering Jihoon, the sooner they could go back home and fix the mess that the man had put them in.
It clearly wasn’t going to be easy, but then Daehyun had seen worse in his whole life, yeah?
"Alright. But don’t say I didn’t want you when we get there and she fries your ass for tagging along too," Jhoon said and Daehyun just frowned at him.
"You must be well then, if you can make fun of my ass being handed to me by that woman. You should see how scary she can be. She is something else," Daehuyun said once his brother had gotten up and stabilized himself.
Jihoon just responded with a laugh, a hopeful one and they walked towards Incayon. As they made this journey to the palace that would most likely be the last time they would be seen alive, Daehyun felt something was wrong.
He felt like someone was following them and the more they walked, the more the sounds were portant. Someone was desperately trying to follow them, and if Daehyun had been in the same state as Jihoon and that indisposed, he wouldn’t have known. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Daehyun didn’t look back or around him, instead, he continued conversing with his friend who had found a new obsession with the incayon alpha. If Daehyun hadn’t known any better, he could have assumed that Jihoon and Dalrae were mates.
He wasn’t opposed to it, even though it seemed like the worst pair to ever exist, but then that was insane. Then again, if talking about Dalrae was enough to distract the man from whatever was happening around them, then he would let him do that.
"I need to take a piss, brother," Daehyun suddenly said, making Jihoon let out a long groan.
"What. Can’t a man take a piss in the woods after walking for several miles? It’s not like we will reach Incayon within the day anyway," Daehyun argued and Jihoon just sighed. He knew this was the one time he couldn’t win.
"Fine, go on," Jihoon said as he sat down to get some sleep. He was tired and instantly fell asleep the moment he closed his eyes.
Meanwhile, Daehyun had gone to check out the source of the calculated steps that had been following them and when he saw the person there, he could have sworn he had seen a ghost.
"What the fuck are you doing here?... Scratch that... You... You’re alive?" Daehyun asked worriedly.
"I knew you were smart, Calindra beta," Yanna responded with a permanent smirk on her face, before she knocked the poor man out.
