Chapter 130: The Heart Mender of The West

[JIHOON] 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"I miss her. She shouldn’t have suffered like that. I should’ve protected her, even once. I let her suffer so much and in my hands too. I should’ve been a good person to her, and now...

"All I can do is look at the sun in the hope that someday my light would come from the west in the morning, but it wouldn’t. And it hurts. I miss her, I want her back," Jihoon said and Daehyun looked at him, confused.

Who was he talking about?

’Light from the West?’ Daehyun asked himself as they stopped at the front of the packhouse. He was trying to make any sense of whatever his brother was talking about and frankly, it just wasn’t making sense.

However the longer that Daehyun thought about it, the more he was sure that either Jihoon had gone crazy or the poor man was talking about someone else other than Yanna. The only place that was west of Calindra was Incayon.

And the only person that could get him that obsessed was Kim Rania. Surely his best friend wasn’t thinking about the psycho he had banished himself, right? But what if? What if it was true, what would Daehyun do to make things better??

Was he even in such a position with his friend?

Oh, how Lee Daehyun was worried about Jihoon. However, even then, he promised he would try and make sense of the situation. Because there was just no other way out of this. After all, it wasn’t like there was much of Jihoon’s sanity left to save, right?

"I know you miss the luna, but ruining the pack and burning her clothes isn’t going to make her return. Stop this, brother," Daehyun pleaded and Jihoon just ignored him.

Instead, he walked right into the burning house and into his wing. It was like he was already giving up and Daehyun wasn’t sure if he could stop the man or he could just let him explore his limits. All in all, the world couldn’t get any more confusing anyway.

"I’m the alpha of the pack. This house should be burnt. Tell the warriors that I want this pack house brought down, brick by brick until there is nothing left of it," Jihoon said when he came out of the house again.

He was coughing so terribly because of the smoke that had spread, but that didn’t even seem to scare him. Which also made Daehyun worry even more. What the hell was he supposed to do if his best friend was acting like a brainless vegetable?

How was he supposed to talk him out of this anyway?

"But your parents—" Daehyun tried.

"I already built them a house, remember. They can keep on using that one. Besides, it’s not like there is much to be saved from this house anyway. And one more thing.

"Tell everyone to never mention Yanna’s name in this pack unless they want me to banish them," Jihoon warned and Daehyun just watched hopelessly.

He was slowly piecing up the dots and now that Jihoon had warned against the mention of Yanna, Daehyun was certain that this, all of this, was never about Yanna but about losing someone else.

Maybe he would find out later if it was Rania or if he was just letting his brain work a little too harder than was needed for him.

"If that is what you wish," Daehyun added because there wasn’t a thing he could do for his friend at the moment other than just agree. Standing there, Daehyun thought back to the angst that the pack members were experiencing.

He knew that Jihoon loved his people but then he also knew that the alpha needed a break. He wasn’t sure how to break it to their people in the caves, but he hoped they wouldn’t judge Jihoon harshly.

After all, the man had dedicated his whole life to making sure Calindra was home to many. He loved the wolves and his pack members. But right now, he was too stressed to even think straight.

Maybe that made him a bad alpha, but then at the end of the day, he was also a human aside from being a wolf and he needed a break too.

Maybe this was it.

In the first week, Daehyun had tried to explain to the Calindra wolves that their alpha was feeling antsy because of the upcoming mating festival. He hated his words and even he couldn’t believe them, but the pack needed assurance that they were not falling apart.

He knew it was a lame excuse, but then what was he supposed to tell the Calindra wolves? How was he supposed to explain shit that even he didn’t understand himself?

And so Daehyun had watched the people of Calindra slowly pull away from their alpha in fear that they would be victims of his rage. It hurt them a lot, but they knew that time would give them better explanations.

Maybe they were too understanding or maybe, just maybe they knew what it meant to be alone in the world without a soulmate, especially in a time when everyone seemingly had theirs. It was hectic and they couldn’t quite blame him.

"Great. You tell them that, and tell them that I have places to be so I can’t be here with them," Jihoon said and Daehyun felt like he was being forced to be the provider of bad news. He couldn’t risk going against his alpha and commander though.

"I guess I’m going to win the messenger of the year award this season," Daehyun responded sarcastically but even that didn’t seem to faze his best friend because instead of Jihoon saying anything, he just continued walking towards the west of Calindra.

Daehyun considered his options and for a moment, he was mad at his friend.

He was so angry he wanted to let him leave and do whatever the fuck he wanted, but Daehyun also knew that his friend was hurting and that if the positions were switched, Jihoon wouldn’t have left his side. So he figured he could do the only thing a friend could do in that state.

He delivered the messages to the pack using the mind links, even though he noticed that Jihoon had shut off his. It was probably his coping mechanism, but damn, weren’t they getting a little too many for one person at the moment anyway?

"Is my son okay?" Luna Park asked and Daehyun felt like his heart was going to break for the mother who was worried sick for her son. She clearly wanted to help her son but then she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to do.

"He will be. I’ll go with him and see if he needs anything. Meanwhile, that will leave both you and Alpha Park to run Calindra. I’m sorry I have to leave too," Daehyun said sadly but they understood him.

Jihoon needed him more than the pack needed him at the moment. So they wouldn’t oppose the decision, even though it wasn’t the easiest for them to make. Maybe in the future, they would be able to find a way out of this. Maybe the solution would show up eventually.

"Take care of yourselves," Luna Park said while Alpha Park added something that got Daehyun more than curious.

"I hope he chooses to trust his true mate this time."
