Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 122: Sometimes There Were Secrets
[ALTUNIA]
"Was it about my parents? Did she find them? Did she tell you why she was protecting me from my parents, even though I never met them?" Dalrae based hopefully like this was the first hint at Rania’s deep secrets.
Maybe after a long while, she would finally know why Rania had made such decisions, but then again, Lim Dalrae had a feeling that it would take more than just asking nicely for Paloma to open up to her.
There was always a reason Rania trusted people and the fact that she trusted Paloma with her life, meant that she knew that Paloma would always have her back. But was that really going to be the case this time, when Dalrae was hoping to get her answers?
Would it make any difference?
"Are you sure you crossed the boundaries just to come and ask me about your parents? I will only answer questions for one topic, so ask carefully," Paloma said, knowing that she wasn’t ever going to be able to tell Dalrae anything about her parents.
If she did, then Kim Rania would kill her. That was a promise, and a threat that the Incayon psycho alpha had made to Paloma, all the while protecting her from the wolves and the realm itself.
If Paloma broke that promise, she would be long gone and her body wouldn’t be found, just like the bodies of Rania’s victims who dared to look at her people the wrong way.
"Just one? How mean," Dalrae whispered but she knew Paloma could hear her, not that she cared one bit about it.
None of this was what she had planned on, and the fact that she never thought she would be talking about her parents with Paloma meant a lot about Dalrae and Paloma.
"Fine. I’ll go straight to the point then. Rania is hurt, or so Jihoon thinks. He came to Incayon and said that my sister was trapped in the human traps. I know your rogues can see whether she is hurt or not, given that Altunia sits at the border between our realm and the human lands.
"Do you know anything about that or did Jihoon spend seven hours waiting for me to see him, just to peddle me misinformation?" Dalrae asked and Paloma choked on air.
Of the things she had expected, hearing that Jihoon had come to Dalrae because of Rani was certainly not one of them. She knew those two and she was aware that they wouldn’t ever stay in the same place.
If Jihoon had riled a lynching by the Incayon alpha just to let Dalrae know about that, then there was a chance that it was true. But then again, if it was true, wouldn’t Odelia have told her? Wouldn’t Han have already tried to communicate with Paloma about it?
Or even Oshita would have known.
There was just no way that Chang Wook would have left Rania alone, so what the hell happened in the human lands and why was Rania being hunted again outside of their realm?
"Why should I know what happened to the mad woman? It’s not like she wou—"
"Cut the bullshit, Paloma. If it’s true, just let me know and if it isn’t, also let me know. I didn’t come here to ask for pleasantries.
"A yes or no would suffice instead of talking me into circles like I want to marry your rogues," Dalrae said frustratedly and Paloma figured that there was no point in hiding the truth for Dalrae.
The woman cared for Rania, and Paloma did too, so there was just no way they could keep up the pretense of tolerating each other for long.
"Fine. We have heard cases of wolf hunters increasing in numbers on human lands. I don’t know for sure if Rania was ever captured. But even if she did, she is Kim Rania. No one can cause her any pain that she can’t handle.
"Have faith in her," Plaoma said and Dalrae just sighed.
What Paloma had said was true, but was that enough to convince Dalrae to let the issue go, was it enough for her to allow the universe to do its thing? She had learned a lot in the past few hours, a lot that she couldn’t have, if she had just stayed in Incayon. Maybe it wasn’t as bad.
"I have faith in her, I just don’t want to take chances. I know I can’t cross the borders, Paloma. But you and your rogues can. In that case, I have a favor to ask, you can collect anytime you feel like," Dalrae said, knowing so well that what she was doing was risky.
Paloma and her rogues could easily demand that Incayon be theirs and Dalrae would have to oblige. However, as she looked at Paloma, Dalrae had a feeling that they could work well, at least when it came to keeping Kim Rania safe.
"What is it this time?"
"Please—"
"Take care of Rania? Of course, I will. She saved my life more than once and I owe her my life itself. Go back home, Dalrae. I’ll guard her and make sure she is fine. You have been away from home for a long time and your wolves will worry for you.
"Go, be the alpha that Rania let you be, and don’t bring down her legacy. Besides, she will definitely come and see you when the third month is over.
"Goodbye for now," Plaoma said, before getting up and leaving the room, leaving Dalrae wondering how Paloma knew of the three-month agreement. It made her wonder if Paloma could be trusted and more than anything, if Paloma really cared for Rania. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Left alone in Paloma’s nest Dalrae had so many questions but even then she could see that daylight was almost over and night would come soon.
She didn’t want to be away from home for long because there were chances that Alpha Kim would try something stupid again like campaigning for people to tell the king not to let Rania back into Obren.
For parents of the strongest alpha, the Kims were proving and had proven more than once to be their daughter’s worst nightmare.
"Let’s go home, Kylian," Dalrae said to her warrior when she walked out of the throne room. She was met with Oshita and her warrior and they were looking at her tired face like they both wished there was more they could do.
"Don’t worry too much Dalrae. If Rani is hurt, she will get the best care out there. She has allies, in both realms, a lot of them. The one guarding her on the other side of the realm is stronger, and powerful, ust like her. He wouldn’t let shit happen to rani.
"If it makes you feel any better, you can be on the lookout for the pile of hunter bodies that will fall this week. And yes, Jihoon was right. Rani is hurt. But she is not trapped anymore. She is free, and getting nursed.
"Keep the pack safe, it’s the only way for her not to worry about you. I’ll tell her you came by," Oshita said softly that Dalrae wondered whether Paloma had allowed for this. Then again, she knew that the only way Paloma’s best warrior would confide in her was if the woman allowed it.
Without Paloma’s approval, there was nothing that Oshita could do.
"I will. Tell her that I know. Tell her I know that Jihoon is her mate," Dalrae said and Oshita looked at the woman in shock.
"Hold up, what did you just say????"
