Chapter 119: The Alpha’s Long Gamble

[RANIA]

Dalrae had made her choice and while it was going to be challenging to get what she wanted, she wasn’t going to fall back. She would face the reality head-on and do whatever it took to get to Rania. Everything else was just noise to her.

"Alpha, are you sure about this?" Kylian asked, when he noticed that they had crossed the Obren borders, the Drarun borders, and even the Valley of the Whites. They were headed for the one destination that could raise questions about Dalrae’s reign.

And yet even then, Lim Dalrae had only one thing in mind. To get answers and to be sure of what was happening. Finding out that Jihoon was Rania’s true mate was damaging enough as it was, and if Jihoon reached Rania first, she wasn’t sure what would happen.

The uncertainty that was swarming her made her make the impromptu journey to a land that everyone would frown upon. But for Rania, Dalrae would sit at the same table with the devil himself.

"Yes, I am. Now hurry, we’re running out of daylight," Dalrae said and Kylian just did as his alpha had told him. He knew that this had to do with Jihon’s appearance to Incayon earlier and whatever Jihoon had said, had to have irked Dalrae.

Nothing that had happened in the past few months had ever been able to make Dlarae nervous and angry at the same time, so whatever Jihoonahd said, could only mean one thing and one thing only.

It had to have a correlation with the missing alpha, and in Kylian’s experience around his alpha, that wasn’t good. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Maybe when they got to where they were headed, there would be more answers, but what were the chances that they would ever get out of there freely? If anything, there wasn’t even an assurance that life itself would be the same anymore.

"Let me go ahead and check if it’s safe," Kylian volunteered and Dalrae just stared at him blankly. She knew that it was even more dangerous if she sent the warrior alone, and she wasn’t planning on sending one of Rania’s loyalists to hell in the name of salvation.

"No. You stay right beside me, and no matter what happens, you must not stand before the sword for me. Understood?" Dalrae said and the warrior just nodded. He wanted to help, but sometimes, there was just no point in volunteering himself this time.

"Let’s go," Dalrae said, even though she could see the gates of her destination. She had left Incayon for the most fertile lands in the realm. The place everyone wanted to be but couldn’t because it had once been the land owned by vampires.

The golden gates were pretty and what was even more were the dark stone walls that held it together. The plantation around the gates made it such that the place looked like heaven on its own, even though it probably wasn’t.

But that was the thing. Altunia was a heaven on its own. It was the palace that people wanted to be in anytime and every time. It was the home of everyone who wanted a better life, and right now, Altunia was the home of the rogues.

Granted, it wasn’t exactly what everyone had expected, but then rumor had it that the vampire king, Nathaniel had given them that land because they had done something that only rogues would do.

Of course, no one knew what it was, but Dalrae had a hint as to what it was, especially given she had seen Oshita near the territory weeks ago. Rania had earned them that home, and she would be damned if she didn’t try to seek them out to help her with this particular mission.

Sure, Dalrae knew that Rania would frown upon the decision and initiative, but the thought of Rani being hurt to the point of fucking up Jihoon was just insane. It spoke volumes to her and she wasn’t going to let it all go.

’Goddess please stop me from being mean to their queen,’ Dalrae whispered as she and her warrior got off their horses, careful not to spook the rogue warriors, and began walking towards the richest land in the realm.

Altunia.

"Hold!!" A warrior’s voice stopped them and Dalrae took a deep breath. She was in a terrible mood thanks to the pain she had just learned of Rania, but here and now she wanted to be as kind as possible, especially with Paloma, the rogue queen.

For some reason, Dalrae trusted Paloma to help her. Maybe she was hoping for too much, maybe she was coughing on the simple reality that rogues didn’t have any loyalty to anyone but themselves, but would they really want to be involved in this?

"State your reason for coming to Altunia!" the lead warrior said as he looked closer at the duo that had stopped moving. They seemed to be a little too compliant, for wolves. Many people always tried to show their prowess at the rogues.

"Hold up... Dalrae? What the hell are you doing out of Obren? Do you know how dangerous it is out here? Goodness, Rani will kill me if she knows you’re out here on your own. Goodness woman," Oshita said as he came out of the Altunia gates.

He looked like he had seen Dalrae from a distance or maybe he had expected her. Then again, Oshita and the team that had escorted Rania out of the supernatural realm were aware of what had happened to Rani, and were probably working on a solution for her.

"I have to meet with your queen, Oshita. Where is Paloma? I need to meet with her and discuss matters pertaining to Rani. It’s urgent. If you please, let her know that I need to talk to her," Dalrae said as she looked at the man before her.

Oshita looked at her, knowing so well that she was worried about Rani. He wanted to tell her something, anything, that would make it better for her, but Oshita knew he couldn’t admit that the rogues were in an alliance with Rani. It would raise questions in the realm.

"She’s busy, she has other things to work on right now," Oshita said as he looked at Kylian who was staring at him confused. It was almost like they were welcome in Altunia, but knowing the fact that most of the rogues in Altunia were wolves, it just didn’t make sense.

There was no way a rogue, and especially one that was banished from Incayon would be that welcoming to their reigning alpha. Maybe there was more to this, but of course, there was more to this. It just didn’t make any sense.

"Then tell her I’ll wait it out. I don’t mind staying here till she is free," Dalrae said and Kylian thought back to Jihoon and how he had waited for the whole day to see Dalrae. Was this some kind of karma or what?

"Fine, come on in. You’re just stubborn, just like her. I assume that the warrior you have come with is pro-Rani, right?" Oshita asked and Dalrae just smirked at him. Of course, he knew, Oshita always knew things, even when they didn’t have to. But that was an issue for another day.

"You know it too well. Come along, lead the way, Oshita."
