Chapter 113: What If He Truly Cared?

[JIHOON]

"Well, I’m guessing you’re here because of the psycho girl, right?" Brent asked and Jihoon looked at him, as if there was more that the warlock wasn’t saying.

He had seen the frown on Jihoon’s face and in their past, only Rania had been able to make Jihoon question everything he believed in successfully.

It was almost like Rania was a trigger for the alpha, but then wasn’t that the truth anyway? The psycho had made Jihoon’s life difficult more times than the alpha could admit, but since he was with his friend, he could easily open ip, right?

"You mean Rania? No. not this time. Besides, she is banished from Obren and the supernatural realm. It makes me happy that she will be someone else’s problem at least for the next few years or so," Jihoon said with a smile and Brent looked at him curiously.

If he wasn’t here because of Rania, then why was he here? Their relationship had solely been based on their common hatred for Rania and now that it wasn’t a subject anymore, Brent was curious.

"If not her, then what brought you this far?" Bret asked and this time, Jihoon went silent for a while.

He wasn’t sure how to initiate the discussion, because this itself was an absurd meeting. He wasn’t sure if Brent would laugh at him or tell him that he had finally gone bonkers, and it was stressing him out really bad.

"What happens when a werewolf loses his or her mate to death or rejection?"

"What?" Brent asked, moving a little too close to Jihoon, like he wanted to see for himself if the psycho before him was the one asking the question or if there was just another reason too.

Of all the people he had expected, Park Jihoon asking about mates and rejections, had certainly not been on top of his list, making him wonder what had happened to his friend. Had he really lost his sanity this time?

"Did you do something to Rania’s mate?" Brent added, like he was trying to gauge where the discussion itself had stemmed from. None of it made any sense and just like every other thing in Jihoon’s life, alpha Kim Rania was Brent’s only suspect.

If the Calindra alpha was stressed, then it was always because of something Rania did or was planning to do. And right now he had a frown, which could only mean that the devil’s daughter had done it again.

But what if she hadn’t? What if all of this wasn’t even her fault, to begin with, would it make it all any better for them?

"Rania’s mate? Hell no. The woman doesn’t even have a mate. Everyone rejected her, remember?" Jihoon said before adding, "Answer me old friend, what are the side effects of losing a mate?"

"Well—" Brent began as he elaborated on the side effects of what his friend had asked and funnily enough, his answers were similar to what Daehyun had told Jihoon earlier; everything down to the last psychotic bit, and that got Jihoon curious.

"You must really be a strong man, Jihoon, because alphas always have it the roughest when they lose their mates. The past five years were really tough on you and you still stayed sane. I am proud of you my friend," Brent said, and Jihoon smiled stiffly.

He was new to all this and the fact that he hadn’t experienced what Daehyun and Brent had talked about, made him wonder if that was all because Yanna was a hybrid. But then it wasn’t like that made her any less of his mate, right?

Besides, they had marked each other, even if that was just to protect Yanna, but still, they had a bond, one that had grown over time. So it would only make sense that Jihoon experienced the side effects of a broken bond

Death did make it hard for people to move on, especially possessive alpha mates.

"Honestly, I think it’s also because my Yana finally got the justice she deserved, and Rania got to finally pay the price for her insanity. If anything, my anger and rage towards Rania may have played a key role in keeping me safe and sane.

"You know how she can get at times, right?" Jihoon responded, the words coming from his mouth sounding so foreign to him. He hadn’t expected that there would come a time when he would ever feel like a stranger in his own world.

He felt like he had cheated fate or something, if the people he trusted the most had talked about the adverse losses and the more he thought about it, the more he figured there was a truth to it. After all, his aunt had been too broken when she lost his uncle years ago.

"Well that makes more sense. Now that you are here, would you like to know where she is truly paying for her sins with her life or if she is just living a scot free life?" Brent asked, like a trick question, but to Jihoon, it was nothing more than a chance to see his enemy suffering.

He loved the idea and was quick to agree to it, almost like he had missed seeing her face.

"Absolutely. I really hope she is having the worst of her days though," Jihoon said excitedly, almost like this was his daily shot of vitamins and dopamine to keep him even happier.

And so Brent cast a spell to seek out Rania. He wasn’t sure it would work at first, given he had nothing to remind him of Rania’s scent or anything. So he chose to bet on the mere fact that Jihoon wanted to see Rania, and that they were enemies.

It was a truly long shot, but one that seemed worthwhile because Jihoon was more than ready to enjoy the woman’s suffering. For a moment, there was nothing, just absolute darkness, as Brent held hands with Jihoon to channel him.

And then they finally saw her, the woman they were seeing and the woman they had wished for nothing but pain over and over.

Kim Rania.

"There she is... In her wolf form?" Jihoon asked as he tried to focus even more.

Rania’s wolf was beautiful and he couldn’t deny that. He wanted to run his hands through her furs, and play with her for a moment there. But then just like the idea had come, it disappeared as Jihoon focused more clearly on the wolf they were seeing.

Kim Rania was currently in the woods, and she was whimpering, painfully. Her heartbeats were rapid and unsteady, and for a strong wolf, she sounded like she had been fighting a losing battle, especially now that she was alone.

At the moment, Kim Rania was trapped in a wolf-hunting trap, something that seemed to piss Jihoon off. He hated werewolf hunters, and he always wished they would be eliminated.

Expectedly, the wolf hunters are humans and Jihoon wouldn’t do shit, unless they attacked them. But even then, the idea of Rania, alone out there in her wolf form didn’t sit well with Jihoon. It was strange for him, but he chose not to pay attention to it, again.

"Well she really is suffering from the looks of it," Brent said with a laugh, and Jihoon joined in, even though he was worried about her. He wasn’t sure why he was feeling the sudden urge to seek her out, but hearing Brent laughing about his frenemy’s misfortune angered him.

"I just remembered something, I’ll leave now, thanks for the insights brother," Jihoon suddenly said and Brent knew it was time for him to create a portal to calindra.
